Suggested January 2024 5 Of The Best Internet Speed Test Apps For Android

It can be frustrating when Internet speed is not up to par as expected. Slow internet makes us less productive and wastes a lot of our time. It is always best to check the Internet speed to ensure your Wi-Fi speed meets the threshold. Here we go through some of the best Internet speed test apps for Android that you can use to check your Internet speed.

Before We Begin

Whenever we experience slow Internet speeds, we tend to call our Internet provider for assistance. And very cleverly, they will redirect you to an ISP-made Internet speed testing website. Notably, such ISP-made speed test websites or sponsored apps always return high download/upload speeds.

As such, it is always best to run the speed test at least three times and get the average reading. You should also use different Internet speed testing apps to get a better understanding.

If you prefer not to install any more apps on your Android phone, you can also make use of these speed test sites.

1. Fast Speed Test

Fast Speed Test is one of my personal favorite Internet speed test apps. It is a simple app with a simple user interface. All you need to do is open the app, and that’s about it. The app will check your Internet connection speed and show you the result. For your info, this app is owned by Netflix.

Hitting the “Show More Info” button gives you all the information about your Internet speed, such as latency uploaded/loaded, upload speed, client information, servers used, and your public IP address. Users can also save the speed results as records.

2. SpeedTest by Ookla

When it comes to Internet speed test apps, SpeedTest by Ookla is the most popular around. SpeedTest by Ookla is the go-to app for many users checking Internet speed.

Though the app looks similar to the website, there are some key features embedded into the app. You can test your ping, download, and upload speed; the app keeps a record of the test results; you can perform a speed test from different servers; real-time graphs to show connection consistency; etc.

3. SpeedTest Master

SpeedTest Master is another powerful Internet speed testing app available for Android devices. Apart from letting you test Internet speed, it also features a Wi-Fi detector, ping test, Wi-Fi signal strength, Wi-Fi channel analysis, and data usage.

In order to speed test, open the app and hit the Start button. Once completed, it will show details such as upload/download speed, ping, jitter, and data loss percentage. After every speed test session, an ad will pop up, which is kind of annoying.

4. Simple Speedcheck

Simple Speedcheck is another Internet speed testing app that offers accurate results. The app features a clean user interface. Simple Speedcheck offers information about your Internet speed in the form of charts.

It shows you outright the connected Wi-Fi signal strength. Hit the Test button, and it will show you all the standard details. The app also keeps a track of all of your previous speed tests and tells you if you performed a speed test over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Ads are everywhere, but you can get rid of them by making a $2.49 payment.

5. Meteor

Meteor is a free speed testing app for those who are just looking for an app that can show them Internet speed test results. Meteor will show you information such as upload/download speed and ping. Notably, it can also show you how your Internet speed will work with the apps installed on your device.

App performance details are shown with clarity. You can also perform tests at multiple locations and compare the test results – for example: work, home, etc.

None so far

Wrapping Up

You can make use of Internet speed testing apps to check whether your Internet connection is behind issues you have with any app. Meanwhile, you can also display Internet speed on the taskbar in Windows.

How To Run Speed Test From The Command Line To Check Internet Connection Speed

The excellent curl and wget tools provide for a simple way to test the speed of an internet connection directly from the command line. Curl is bundled with most unix variations, but Mac users who want to use the wget trick will first need to grab wget for OS X in order for this to work, wget is a simple terminal utility used to download files from the web and ftp and it’s handy to have around for a variety of uses making it worthwhile to have anyway. Curl should be preinstalled on every unix flavor that is even vaguely modern, including all versions of Mac OS X and linux.

Test Internet Connection Speed from the Command Line

This is a fairly simple trick to check download speeds using the official SpeedTest servers, making it a quick and effect means to check an active internet connection. There are two ways to use this, one utilizing curl, the other uses wget.

Run SpeedTest with curl from the Command Line to Determine Internet Connection Download Speeds

The first trick is to use curl, which is able to download remote files from just about anywhere, retrieve headers, and perform tons of other nifty actions. Curl is bundled with every version of Unix and OS X ever made which makes this a nearly universal command to test download speeds on just about any unix-based computer:

The download speed will show as well as elapsed time to complete the download. Here is what this looks like running in a terminal:

The “” file is being sent to /dev/null so don’t worry about taking up disk space with a useless test file.

If you think you’ll use the curl trick often, consider adding it to your profile as an alias:

You’ll probably notice the command itself is quite similar to the wget command string to perform a similar action, so it’s really a matter of preference.

Testing Connection Speed from the Command Line with wget

If you’re already familiar with the command line you know what to do, but others can install wget, then launch Terminal (found in /Applications/Utilities/) and paste the following command string into the terminal:

Look to the righthand side of wget as it runs and you’ll see the connection speed (1.36m/s in the screen shot example). Because wget is pointing the downloaded file at /dev/null it won’t actually take up any hard drive space, so there is no concern about running this command repeatedly.

This uses the same SpeedTest servers that are available to mobile users through the Speed Test app, it can make for a decent way to directly compare connection speeds on a broadband connection vs cellular, without having to access the SpeedTest Flash-based web apps, and without having to compile any additional command line software.

Plan on using this trick often? Consider adding a simple alias to .bash_profile:

Using an alias is obviously shorter and easier to remember, making it a bit more useful for scripts, automation, remote testing, and just for those of us who like to poke around in the Terminal.

6 Of The Best Grammar Apps For Android

While autocorrect is great, it’s not always right. Sometimes, even with the best intentions, you might use the wrong “there” or “your.” That’s when grammar apps for Android are helpful. From apps that help correct you while typing to apps that help you naturally improve your grammar skills, turn your Android device into a tool for far more professional grammar for all your communications.

1. Grammarly – Top Pick

As a writer, I don’t have a single device without Grammarly installed. As I type, Grammarly suggests corrections, which I can either ignore or accept. In my personal experience, the app is right around ninety-nine percent of the time. On my phone, I use the free version, but there’s also a premium version for full features. I use the premium version on my desktop, and it is worth it if you write often.

Grammarly installs as a keyboard on Android. When you enable the keyboard, you’ll receive autocorrect grammar features in the free version.

2. Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Built-in quizzes help you perfect your grammar and even learn new words. It’s a fun daily tool just to learn new things.

3. Correct Speak

Correct Speak is one of the more unique grammar apps for Android. What I love most is that it’s designed for both native and non-native speakers. It supports multiple languages, so you’ll be able to correct your grammar even if you’re traveling somewhere and don’t speak the language fluently.

4. English Grammar Test

English Grammar in Use With Test works similarly and even has a translate function built in. Many users say it’s easier to use. Between the three, it’s all about user preference. I personally prefer the first and third apps myself.

If you like learning facts about words, there are interesting stories about the origins of words, common word mistakes, and much more.

6. English Grammar in Use

One of the most comprehensive grammar apps for Android is English Grammar in Use. It’s based on the book by Raymond Murphy, a grammar professor. Its detailed examples definitely help set it apart from the competition. The only reason I didn’t rate it higher on this list is that much of the content is behind a paywall. However, if you want to learn grammar from an actual professor’s lesson plans, it’s worth buying the premium version.

By using a combination of the above apps, you’ll impress your friends and family by your sudden mastery of the English language. If instead you want to learn a new language, check out this list of the best apps to learn new languages.

Which Is The Best Platform For The Internet Of Things (Iot)?

The goal of the Internet of Things (IoT) is to make it possible for devices to talk to each other remotely to work better and be more convenient. An IoT platform connects the sensors in devices to computer networks. It’s helpful because it shows how the backend software stores and uses data. With the help of an Internet of Things (IoT) platform, programmers can send apps to various endpoints, gather data from far away, keep connections safe, and control sensors. An IoT platform handles how the devices connect to the network and gives developers a place to start when making new mobile apps.

Here, we look at the top IoT platforms of 2023 and try to figure out why they will be so popular.

Google Cloud IoT Platform

Google Cloud IoT is the company’s way of putting together services that improve the quality of products that are already linked. It helps make business operations run more efficiently. It can track assets in real-time, help cities and buildings become smarter, and predict when equipment needs to be fixed.

Google Cloud IoT also helps the devices be more useful in other ways. This system uses the cloud to cut costs and has built-in location awareness to make it work better. Their main focus is on quick, simple, and effective ways to run your business.

Also, the Google Cloud platform gives real-time information about the devices being used worldwide. The Google platform makes it easier to share files and work together. This IoT platform doesn’t need a certain OS to work.

Geography and map skills.

Amazon Web Services Platform for IoT

Amazon is the only company in the home consumer cloud market. In 2004, they were the first to turn cloud computing into a business.

Since then, they’ve invested much money into research and development and making new features. This has led to what may be the most feature-packed toolkit in the industry.

It’s a platform that can support many devices and interactions.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) charges per message sent and received regarding the Internet of Things (IoT). Every time a device talks to a server in the IoT, it’s like a message being sent between two computers.

It can handle a very high number of messages at the same time.

It’s a safe and reliable way to send data to AWS nodes and other devices.

Even when you are not online, your programs will still work and share data.

You can use several other AWS services, such as AWS Lambda, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon QuickSight, etc.

The IIoT solution ThingWorx is both powerful and complete. It can be used for many production, service, and engineering tasks because it has full-stack auto-provisioning and device administration. ThingWorx’s main features are remote monitoring, remote repair and support, predictive capabilities, and other features that can be used on-site or in the cloud.
