Suggested January 2024 5 Ways To Know If Someone Has Blocked You On Imessage
Am I blocked on iMessage? A question that pops into your head when your friend or acquaintance takes particularly long to reply…
Of course, it’s possible the recipient is busy or facing network issues. But how could you know for sure?
While there is no specific way to discover the truth, there are some signs or hacks to know if someone has blocked you on iMessage. Let’s explore these tricks one by one.
1. Check iMessage bubble color on iPhone
Even if you’re blocked on iMessage, the message will appear to be sent as usual; this is why it’s so difficult to figure out if you’re blocked or not.
Apple uses a blue text bubble to signify iMessage and a green bubble for SMS. When iMessages can’t go through, and the send as SMS setting is enabled, the iPhone re-sends the message via cellular.
So, if your chat history suddenly sports green text bubbles and a ‘Send as Text Message’ under the message instead of blue, it’s a hint.
This might also happen due to network issues at the other end, though. Let’s move on to the next step for further clarity.
2. Check iMessage delivery status
Whether using an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, iMessage shows read receipt or delivered notifications of recently sent messages—if they have it enabled for your contact, that is. But if you can’t see any such status, here’s the second possible strike.
Again, this may also happen when the receiver’s Do Not Disturb mode is turned on. When they turn DND mode off, they get the delivery notification. So, if the status isn’t updated on your end even after some time, you might be on the blocked list.
3. Call or FaceTime the person who blocked you
If someone blocks you, you can’t send an iMessage, call, or FaceTime them. The next step to test if your number is blocked is to place a call.
Interestingly, when you call the blocker, the phone rings just once and then diverts to voicemail or gets cut off. As for FaceTime, it will seem as though the receiver has instantly rejected the call.
This can also happen due to network issues and DND mode. To know the real status, you might have to call the person again after a while.
If you’re blocked, the same thing will happen every time you try to make a call.
4. Turn off Caller ID on iPhone and call the blocker
Desperate times call for desperate measures! Either call the person from an alternative number or disable your caller ID and send a call their way.
To disable Caller ID:
Open Settings → Scroll down and tap Phone.
Tap Show My Caller ID and toggle it off to disable it.
If the person responds to this call, the unfortunate result is quite clear.
Note: This feature is not available in all countries, so you may not be able to employ this method.
5. Double-check with WhatsApp messages
The cheekiest trick of them all. Usually, when someone blocks you from one platform, they do the same on other social media or communication platforms as well.
Send a WhatsApp message and use these tricks to know if you have been blocked. The method offers a win-win solution. You will either discover that you are blocked or could directly ask the friend why they are not replying to you on iMessage.

There’s a whole world outside the English-speaking corner of the internet, so you have likely come across a website in a language that’s not your own.
When you do, resist the temptation to instantly tap the back button, as modern-day mobile browsers can translate the text with just a couple of taps. The accuracy of these tools isn’t perfect but the technology behind them is getting better, and even with some errors, you’ll still be able to understand the main idea and details in a story.
What you need to do to translate a website on your mobile device will depend on your browser of choice. In most cases, the app will assume the language you’re fluent in is the one your phone is set to, which is controlled via System and Languages and input in Settings on Android, and via General and Language & Region in Settings on iOS.How to translate websites on the Google Chrome app
Google has both a popular mobile web browser and a translation engine, so when you open up a foreign language website in Chrome you’ll see an overlay pop up at the bottom (Android) or top (iOS) of the screen, offering to translate it for you. Tap on English (Android) or Translate (iOS) to decode the content.
[Related: 7 language apps and tools to help you navigate the world]
The translation will continue throughout the website until you turn it off, so if you’re browsing around links on the site, text will still appear in English automatically. If you need to jump back to the original language on an Android device, tap it on the translation bar. On iOS, tap the Google Translate icon to the left of the address bar and select Show Original.
Tap the three dots (Android) or cog icon (iOS) on the right-hand side of the translation pop-up to automatically translate certain languages or sites. You can also manage these options by tapping the three dots in the top-right (Android) or bottom-right (iOS) corner of the Chrome interface and choosing Settings and Languages. How to translate websites on the Microsoft Edge app
Edge (for Android and iOS) comes with its own translation engine as well. Open up a website in a language that’s not your own, and you’ll see an offer to translate it pop up at the bottom (Android) or top (iOS) of the screen. Tap to accept the translation, which will continue as long as you stay on the same site.
If Edge has detected a language incorrectly, you want translations to run automatically, or you’d like to exempt the current site from future translations, tap on the three dots (Android) or cog icon (iOS) on the overlay that appears. On Apple devices, these extra options will also appear as an additional step before translating a site.
To go back to the original language, reload the page and don’t accept the translation when prompted. You can also configure how the browser manages translations through the browser app settings: Tap the three dots at the bottom of the Edge interface, then choose Settings, General, and Microsoft Translator. How to translate websites on the Apple Safari app
Safari comes as the built-in browser on iOS and can take care of all of your translation needs. Load up a website in a language other than your iPhone’s default one, tap the AA icon to the left of the address bar at the bottom of the screen, and choose Translate to English from the menu that appears.
You’ll also need to tap Enable Translation on the next dialog box to confirm that you’re happy with Apple sending the site’s text to its servers for translation. If you’re not, you’ll have to rely on your own language skills. Safari will remember which sites you’ve given it permission to translate for the next time you visit them.
The translation will stick until you leave the current website, so any links that you tap within the same site will be automatically translated, with no extra privacy pop-up to get through. To return to the original language on a page, tap the translation icon to the left of the address bar, and then View Original. How to translate websites on other mobile browsers
Many other mobile browsers are available, including some that have built-in translation options (Brave) and some that don’t (Opera). You can always use the translation features integrated into your phone’s software to decode blocks of text, if you need to. It’s not quite as helpful as translating entire pages, but it’s better than nothing.

On Android, you’ll need to start by installing the Google Translate app. Open it, tap your profile picture (top right), choose Settings, and then Tap to Translate to enable the feature. Once that’s done, you should be able to select text in any of your apps and pick Translate from the pop-up overlay to do just that.
On iOS, simply select a block of text and the Translate option should appear (if it doesn’t, tap the right arrow icon). You’ll need to confirm that you’re okay with Apple analyzing the text, and if you are, you’ll then get a panel showing the translated text. You can have it read out to you, or copy it to the clipboard on your iPhone.
An itch is a temporary annoyance for the skin, but if that itch persists, gets worse at night or begins to develop as a rash on the body, you may have scabies. This skin condition occurs when human itch mites (Sarcoptes scabiei) burrow into the upper layer of your skin. These eight-legged critters lay eggs on your skin and once the eggs hatch, the mites climb to the surface of the skin. Later on, these mites spread to other parts of your body and cause itching and red spots. In adults, 10 to 15 human itch mites can cause scabies which is a contagious skin condition.
Scabies can spread rapidly when people are crowded together and easily come in contact with each other. It can also spread among families and cohabitants if one person brings it into the house. This contagious skin condition can spread from person to person but you may not get it from pets. Doctors can easily differentiate if the skin rash is scabies or not.
Let us understand in detail what this skin condition is and who is prone to it. Also, we will discuss the symptoms and signs of scabies so that you too can distinguish if the skin rash is scabies or not. What is Scabies?
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, people who have a weak immune system or older people are at a higher risk for contracting crusted scabies. It is also known as Norwegian crusted scabies which gets its name from the thick crusts of skin formed by human itch mites and their eggs.
Scabies can live on the body for one to two months and also in the bedding or furniture for two to three days. This skin infection can spread from one infected person to another through direct, prolonged and close physical contact. Generally, nursing homes, childcare centres, dormitories, camps etc are frequent sites for scabies outbreaks. Additionally, adults can get these mites through sexual contact with an infected person.Where Do Scabies Mites Live on the Body?
The human itch mites can live in various folds and narrow cracks of the skin. Some of the common mite sites are as follows
Folds in between the fingers and toes
Folds in thighs and genital area
Bends at wrists and knees
The area around the waist
Under the area where you wear rings, watch bands and bracelets
Area around nipples
Around belly button
On the buttocks
On the soles of the feetWho May Get Scabies?
Anyone can get this contagious skin condition as it’s not only a disease caused by poor hygiene. Some people could be more prone to get scabies including −
People who live in close and crowded conditions.
Infants and children who have a lot of prolonged and close physical contact with their parents, families, friends or classmates.
Elderly people who live in nursing homes.
Healthcare professionals and workers can easily come in contact with scabies patients. These workers may also come in contact with people who aren’t aware they have scabies.
There is a common misconception about scabies that it may infect only people who are filthy or dirty and don’t maintain proper hygiene. You can’t see scabies and so, you have to identify them by the rash they cause. Let us understand what the symptoms of scabies are.Symptoms of Scabies
Scabies usually starts with itching and a rash that may often look similar to pimples. The most common areas where it begins are wrists, finger webs, elbows, armpits, waist, knees, ankles or groin. The symptoms of scabies may spread all over the body or may be limited to certain areas where it has been infected.
Intense itching which gets worse at night and disturbs your sleep
Infected bumps due to scratching
Rash that may develop greyish or skin-coloured lines on the skin
Red and scaly patches on the skinHow to Confirm if it is Scabies?
If the itching has been persistent and worsens at night, you may have scabies. You should immediately consult your healthcare provider. In the majority of cases, scabies can be confirmed just by looking closely at the skin. Scabies may look similar to rashes caused by infections like dermatitis, syphilis, flea bites or poison ivy. The doctors can check the rash or burrows on the body and tell if it is scabies or some other skin infection.Treatment for Scabies
The scabies mites are very small in size and are difficult to see with the naked eye. They are white to creamy white, have eight legs, round bodies and are about the size of the tip of a needle. These mites can only be seen if they are magnified. Doctors can treat scabies with creams and antihistamines.
Permethrin − Your healthcare provider may prescribe a cream that contains permethrin. It should remain on the skin for eight to 14 hours and then can be washed off. Therefore, this cream is mostly applied at night and washed off in the morning.
Ivermectin − This is an antiparasitic pill which may treat scabies. It is given in a single dose and is followed by a second dose one to two weeks later. However, if you are pregnant or lactating, avoid taking ivermectin.
Your doctor may also recommend antihistamines which can be taken by mouth and as a cream. This will relieve itching. Even after the treatment, itching may continue for weeks. Keep a check for new tracks or bumps as these may indicate that a second treatment is necessary.Home Treatments for Scabies
Many natural treatments may help relieve the symptoms of scabies. These include −
Tea Tree oil − Add a small amount of tea tree oil to a squirt bottle and spray it on the bed linen and sheet. It may heal the skin rash and stop itching.
Neem − It has antibacterial properties and can ease inflammation and pain. It is available as an oil or can be found in soaps and creams
Aloe Vera − Aloe Vera gel can help in fighting scabies and comfort your skin
Aloe Vera − Aloe Vera gel can help in fighting scabies and comfort your skin
Clove Oil − It is an insecticide and may help in killing scabies mites. Some other essential oils like lavender, thyme and nutmeg may also help in treating scabies. Conclusion
Scabies is a contagious skin condition which occurs when human itch mites come in contact with our skin. The most common symptoms of scabies are skin rash, itching and patchy skin. You can prevent scabies by washing bed linens, towels and clothing in hot water and limiting close contact with an infected person. Always consult a doctor when your skin rash is persistent or gets worse after some days.

Whether it’s a new romantic relationship, a recently moved-in roommate, or a coworker who’s just starting to creep into your social circle, plenty of us spend the holidays wondering whether or not we should get someone a gift. Sure, you could just ask whether or not they want to exchange gifts with you. But what if your asking makes them feel pressured to give a gift? Or worse, what if your uncertainty about the nature of your relationship is totally one-sided, and your friend is left hurt? SOCIAL PROTOCOLS ARE HARD, OKAY. We get it. So here are a few gifts that are either so easy-breezy as to keep the recipient from feeling awkward about not having a gift for you, or so universally cool that you’ll be happy to give them to someone else—or yourself—should a gift exchange fail to occur.
On the one hand, this little baby is the best travel mug money can buy. On the other hand, it’s just a travel mug. 10/10, extremely thoughtful (and eco-friendly!) but low-pressure gift. And hey, you can always keep it for yourself. Who among us has too many travel mugs?
Codenames made it onto our office gift exchange list, and for good reason: it’s frickin’ fun, and super affordable. If your do-I-or-don’t-I gift recipient is throwing a holiday party, bring this along in a jaunty little gift bag. Should they fail to present you with a present, just tell them that you adore this game and love giving sets to your friends to play at parties. Now you’re stuck bringing a new pack of Codenames to every gathering you’ll both attend for the rest of your lives, but on the bright side you’ll get to play Codenames a lot.
Maybe you know you want to exchange gifts with someone but feel like you don’t yet know them well enough to really get them. Don’t blow your money on something silly: think of an item you’ve seen them do without, like an umbrella that didn’t come from a drugstore. You might not prove to them that you’re 100 percent in tune with their likes and dislikes, but you’ll sure prove that you’re thoughtful. You can check out our guide to practical gifts for more ideas.
Maybe it’s not a question of whether to get someone something—or even what to get them—but rather how much. Are you two endgame, or what? How much joy are you going to want to inject into this person’s life? A subscription box says “I’m giving you a gift every month for the next year because every day with you is a gift, but I could also cancel it next month if you ghost me, so no pressure.”
Whaaaat? It’s a good gift. And if they don’t give you anything, just keep your mouth shut and let them wonder who the heck blessed them with the best dang science quarterly in the world. Sometimes magazines just show up, right? That’s totally a thing.
Does your would-be giftee have a pup? The solution is clear: get them a dog toy. It’s not not a gift for the human you’re maybe sorta kinda good friends with, but it’s also totally normal to want to spoil any and all dogs—so no one is going to feel weird if they don’t have something to give you in return.
Our verdict: Xiaomi Mi Band 5 review

The Mi Band 5 also gets several new sports modes, bringing the total up to 11 in all. In contrast, the Mi Band 4 offered a total of six sports modes. It’s nice to see more indoor activity features on the Mi Band 5. Check out all the new sports modes below.
Rowing machine (New)
Jump rope (New)
Indoor cycling (New)
Besides the added sports modes, the Mi Band 5 gets many new tracking features and improvements.Improved sleep tracking
The Mi Band 5 now has improved sleep monitoring, with continuous heart rate tracking as you snooze. Xiaomi claims this will help identify sleep problems such as irregular and sporadic sleep patterns and rapid eye movement. Based on the data collected, the app will give you suggestions on how to improve your sleep quality.Blood oxygen tracking
The Chinese Mi Band 5 also gets a built-in SpO2 or blood oxygen tracker. This was absent from the Mi Band 4. The tracker can apparently detect your blood oxygen saturation levels every second for eight hours in a row. That’s a total of 28,800 readings in a span of eight hours. This continuous SpO2 monitoring is also aimed at improving sleep quality. It will work in tandem with the Mi Band 5’s sleep tracking function to provide more comprehensive sleep quality feedback.Women’s health and PAI scoring system
Other new features include menstruation cycle tracking, breath training, remote control for your smartphone camera, and a new PAI Vitality Index. PAI stands for Personal Activity Intelligence and is a feature borrowed from Huami’s Amazfit wearables. It essentially gamifies health tracking by giving you a score between 1-100 based on your daily activity and heart rate.

Apart from the new sports modes and tracking features, the Mi Band 5 also brings a major design tweak. Traditionally, all Mi Bands have had to be popped out of their silicone straps for charging. The new Mi Band 5 does away with that hassle and brings all-new magnetic charging onboard.
The band has a 100mAh battery which, Xiaomi claims, can keep the lights on for up to 14 days on a full charge.

In China, the Mi Band 5 includes support for NFC and the XiaoAI voice assistant. The Russian variant of the Mi Band 5 launched with NFC, but the global model lacks this option. In fact, it lacks NFC, SpO2 tracking, and a voice assistant.
Now that you know all that’s new with the Mi Band 5, here’s a quick table summarizing the specs.
Fitbit Inspire 2: The Inspire 2 is the best gateway Fitbit thanks to its included year-long Fitbit Premium trial for new users. It is much pricier than the Mi Band 5, though.
HUAWEI Band 6: HUAWEI’s surprise fitness tracking hit of 2023 packs an SpO2 sensor, a large, bright smartwatch-like screen, and excellent battery life. The Band 6 is relatively cheap, too.
Amazfit Band 5: If you’re looking for a near carbon copy of the Mi Band 5, the Amazfit Band 5 is that product. It’s effectively an upgraded Mi Band 5 that’s also available in the US. It includes an SpO2 sensor and a two week battery life.
Xiaomi Mi Band 5: Price and availability
Jimmy Westenberg / Android Authority
The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 launched with the same affordable price tag as its predecessor. In China, the regular variant of the Mi Band 5 without NFC debuted at 189 yuan (~$29). Meanwhile, the version with NFC landed at 229 yuan (~$36).
Bear in mind that these were launch prices, so expect the Mi Band 5 to cost a lot less now that it has been around for more than a year.
The Mi Band 5 is also available in Europe and the UK as the Mi Smart Band 5 (albeit without NFC, SpO2 tracking, and voice assistance). You can buy the global Mi Band 5 for $39 on Amazon. Meanwhile, you can pick up the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 in India for Rs 2,999 (~$40).
Xiaomi Mi Band 5
A bit older, but also a bit cheaper
Xiaomi makes great cheap fitness trackers, and the Mi Band 5 is no exception. For well under $50, you get a bigger display, more trackable sport modes, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, improved sleep tracking, and PAI integration.
