Suggested March 2024 6 Best Rss Feed Readers For Mac You Can Use

“Reach Site Summary” or RSS provides us with an easy medium to stay up to date with the ever-changing landscape of the web. Today, we follow a number of different websites and blogs to get the desired content. It is impossible to visit every site individually to see if they have been updated. Here, RSS feed readers come to our help. Instead of visiting every site individually, users can subscribe to their RSS feed and get all the updates at a single place. When we are looking for the best RSS readers, three things that matter the most are integration, customization, and categorization. There are many “feed readers” which can help you subscribe to your desired websites, but there are few who excel at all the three qualities.

1. ReadKit

ReadKit is the best RSS reader you can get for your Mac right now. You can subscribe to websites individually, or, you can import the feeds from other online services such as Feedly, NewsBlur, Fever, and many more. You can even link “Pocket”, a very popular ‘read it later’ service, and get all your saved articles at one single place. It has an inbuilt ‘mercury parser’, which lets you read the articles in a simple text and image format without any distractions that are generally present on the host websites. You can also go full screen to enter ‘read only’ mode, which hides the side bars and lets you focus on the article you are reading.

Install: ($9.99)

2. Reeder 3

However, not everything is perfect here. It lacks smart folder creation and ‘read only’ mode which is important for me as a reader. Also, its lack of integration with ‘Pocket’ is a big drawback. It also lacks drag and drop feature to organize your articles. Although, it supports gesture navigation, they are usually hit or miss. These drawbacks kept Reeder from topping our list.

3. Leaf

Install: ($4.99)

4. Feedly

Feedly is a very popular RSS reader client on iOS and now it has an app for Mac too. It is the only app in this list which is present on multiple platforms including iOS, macOS, and Android. So, if you own multiple devices and want to sync your articles across them, Feedly is for you. However, its Mac client is not as feature rich as other clients on the top of our list. The service is very buggy and limited. It has no integration with any other online services, so you are dependent on Feedly to provide you with the desired feeds. Also, my main annoyance with Feedly is not the lack of features, but the fact that it follows a paid subscription model.

Most people prefer upfront payment over subscription model as they are a hassle to deal with. The free model comes with a lot of restrictions. It only shows up to 100 feeds at a time and allows you to share the articles to only a few social media websites. You will have to become a paid member to lift all these restrictions. You can check out the full comparison between the features here. The individual plan starts at $65/year.

Install: (Free/In-app purchases)

10 Best Chromebooks For Kids You Can Buy

While Chromebook is now preparing to enter the mainstream laptop market with Linux, Android and Steam support, let’s not forget that Chromebooks were primarily made for students and kids in the first place. In fact, Chromebooks have almost become synonymous with a starter machine for kids to learn about computing and the internet. So, in this article, we bring you the 10 best Chromebooks for kids that are inexpensive and offer a full range of features and functions. We have carefully picked Chromebooks which are rugged, decently powerful, and have a smaller form factor. Now on that note, let’s move ahead and go through the list of best Chromebooks for kids.

Best Chromebooks for Kids in 2023

Here, we have mentioned the 10 best Chromebooks for kids which range from $150 to $300. The list is ordered in ascending order of pricing so if you have a slightly higher budget, you will find the best Chromebooks at the bottom five. Anyway, let’s go ahead and start with the most basic Chromebook for kids.

1. Lenovo 100E

2. Dell Inspiron 11 (2024)

The 11-inch Inspiron was refreshed by Dell in 2023 and now it comes with some fresh changes. For starters, now you get the Dual Core N3060 Processor with 4GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There are also two USB 3.0 and HDMI ports along with an SD card slot. Other than that, it has the usual HD panel and comes with the integrated Intel HD 400 graphics. So far, the Inspiron 11 seems a really good option, especially for the price you are paying. However, the best part about this Chromebook is its ruggedness. Kids are notorious at dropping things so this Chromebook can easily survive heavy drops without damaging the machine. To conclude, if you want a rugged Chromebook for your kid, take a look at the new Dell Inspiron 11.

Buy from Amazon: $167

3. Acer Chromebook 315

While it has been long since Acer 315 was released, the Chromebook still makes its way to our list and for good reasons. The Acer 315 comes with a big 15.6-inch screen– in case you wanted a larger Chromebook for your kid. However, it has an HD panel and you will have to be content with that. Apart from that, the internals are quite powerful as it brings a Dual-Core A4 processor from AMD and also has a dedicated Radeon R4 Graphics for smooth performance. Further, you get 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage which is a standard in this price range. But the best bit of this Chromebook is that you have the modern USB 3.1 and Type C ports so that makes it a future-proof device. All in all, the Acer 315 can be a perfect pick for your kid if you want a larger screen and more horsepower at an inexpensive price.

Buy from Amazon: $215.79

4. HP Chromebook 14

The 14-inch HP Chromebook is another steller laptop for kids on this list. Similar to Acer Chromebook 315, it packs in the AMD Dual-Core A4 processor which is quite powerful for the price you are paying. And not only that, but you also get a Full HD screen with a 180-degree hinge. That’s awesome, right? Besides that, the HP Chromebook 14 offers 32GB of eMMC storage and 4GB of RAM for handling multiple tasks at once. If you have a slightly higher budget, I would recommend this Chromebook over the above-mentioned laptops. It has a premium screen, performs quite well and a body that is not too big or too small. So, what more do you want in a sub-$300 Chromebook? Go with the HP Chromebook 14 and I am sure your kids won’t be disappointed.

Buy from Amazon: $225

5. Lenovo C330

Buy from Amazon: $245.99

6. Acer R13

The predecessor Acer R11 was the king in the sub-$300 category and now it has been succeeded by the latest Acer R13 which looks even more compelling. Sure, it still has the old MediaTek MT8173C processor, but you get 32GB of super-fast SSD storage and 4GB of DDR3 RAM along with a slot for the microSD expansion card. Moreover, it’s a 13.3-inch Chromebook with a convertible body and touchscreen display which are helpful additions for students and kids. Not to mention, at this price, you are getting an excellent Full HD display panel. All in all, the Acer R13 is a solid Chromebook and you should definitely consider it if you are going closer to the $300 price point.

7. Samsung Chromebook 4 and 4+

After a long gap, Samsung released its budget Chromebooks in October 2023 and the specs look awesome on paper. Yes, we are talking about the Samsung Chromebook 4 and 4+. Both the laptops come in several different configurations, starting from 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, but all of them have the Intel Celeron N4000 Processor. The new N4000 series chips by Intel is shaping up to be really good and strikes a fine balance between performance and battery life. The difference between 4 and 4+ is that the former comes with an HD panel and the latter has a Full HD screen. Also, there is a 6GB RAM variant available for the standard Chromebook 4 model. Simply put, if you want a Chromebook that is packed with the latest processor and technology then both Samsung 4 and 4+ are worthy picks for your kid.

8. Lenovo C340

The Lenovo C340 is an upgraded version of C330 that we have mentioned in this list above. It keeps all the headline features like 360° flip-and-fold design, touchscreen display and a premium aluminum body to boot. On top of that, it brings the new Intel Celeron N4000 processor with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. However, the sad part is that the Lenovo C340 still has an HD display, but you won’t find any pixelation issue since it’s just an 11.6-inch panel. Apart from that, the Lenovo C340 has an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 600 which should help while playing games on Chromebook. To bare it all, if you want a compact Chromebook with a powerful processor and build quality then Lenovo C340 is a machine you should definitely check out.

9. Asus Chromebook C523

If you want a Chromebook for your kid which does not compromise on display quality and processing power then Asus Chromebook C523 is for you. It comes with a 15.6-inch Full HD display with minimum bezels and excellent color reproduction. It’s also a touch screen, but you won’t get a convertible form factor which is a bummer. As for the internals, it has the next-gen Intel Pentium N4200 processor which is better than Celeron N4000. Further, the laptop is coupled with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of eMMC storage and comes with a Type C port. Having said that, the best part about this Chromebook is its build quality which is simply top-notch. At half the price, it looks and feels premium just like the $600 Asus C434. All in all, the Asus C523 is a flawless Chromebook and at this price, you should not give it a miss.

Buy from Amazon: $302.49

10. Asus Chromebook C425

If you can go above the $300 territory, I would recommend the Asus Chromebook C425 for its amazing build, keyboard, trackpad, display and everything else. Simply put, the C425 is exactly similar to the more expensive C434 with the only exception that it does not have a convertible body. Other than that, you get all the premium features like a lightweight body, Full HD NanoEdge display, and backlit keyboard. One thing for sure, despite using a 14-inch screen, you would feel that you are using an 11-inch laptop due to its razor-thin bezels. And on the performance front, you get an Intel Core M3-8100Y Processor which is fanless and amply capable than Celeron, MediaTek, and the likes. Not to mention, the laptop is coupled with a humongous 8GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. So to conclude, the Asus C425 is the best Chromebook for kids and you should definitely pick it over any laptop in this price range.

5 Of The Best Youtube Thumbnail Makers You Can Use Online

A good YouTube thumbnail maker can go a long way in helping you grow your channel and increase the number of views and subscribers. If you’re looking for the best software tools to help you create killer thumbnail images, this article is for you. Listed here are the five best thumbnail makers to help you create stunning thumbnails.

1. Canva

Canva is one of the best online graphic design tools on the market today and allows you to create incredible YouTube thumbnails. This tool is very useful to designers and non-designers alike who want to create professional-looking visuals – like YouTube creators who want to make eye-grabbing thumbnails.

Your thumbnail creation with Canva includes free stock type photos, texts, backgrounds, grids, frames, shapes, lines, and illustrations. Canva is free to use, although it has a few paid elements such as clip art and some stock photos. It also has a mobile app for Android and iOS.

2. Fotojet

Fotojet is another great tool you can use to create spectacular YouTube thumbnails. Unlike most online programs that perform graphic design functions in general, Fotojet pays special attention to YouTube thumbnail design. It also provides photo editing, graphics designing, and collage-making resources. Fotojet has over 500 collage making templates, which makes it a useful resource for creating YouTube graphics such as thumbnails.

3. Snappa

Just like Canva, Snappa is a jack-of-all-trades and allows you to do more than just create YouTube thumbnails. It’s one of the best graphic design tools for non-designers because of its versatility and ease of use. It offers a ton of templates for social media as well as for YouTube thumbnails. All you need is to sign up for a free account and start using some of the pre-made YouTube templates.

Snappa also allows you to create YouTube templates from scratch. You can choose to use the available visual icons or upload your own images for your thumbnails. Snappa also gives you limitless options to customize your thumbnails. You can create shapes, add effects, insert custom texts, customize the background and more to make your thumbnails stand out. It has both a free and a paid version.

4. Adobe Express

Adobe Express promises an easy YouTube thumbnail creation process. This online graphic design tool resembles Canva in many ways and can also be used for multifarious functions. Unlike Canva, Adobe Express does not charge you to use the pre-made thumbnail layouts. It has a special category for YouTube thumbnails, and this makes the thumbnail creation process simple and straightforward.

One thing you’ll notice with Adobe Express is that it lacks the many “ornaments” you’ll find in other thumbnail-maker tools. Its features are pretty basic and on point. However, that doesn’t make it inferior. It lets you add texts, color, background components, and many other basic elements you’ll need to make your thumbnails stand out. Adobe Expres has a free and a paid version. It also has a mobile app for iOS.

5. Fotor

Then it provides you with a clean and smooth interface to edit your thumbnails and all the elements you’ll need to add visual appeal to your thumbnails. Fotor is easy to use, so you won’t need expert knowledge to create stunning thumbnails. Besides editing, Fotor is also a great tool for making collages.

Wrapping Up

The human brain responds better to visuals than texts. Therefore, creating visually appealing YouTube thumbnails can significantly increase traffic to your YouTube channel. But having quality thumbnails is not enough – the content needs to be valuable to the viewer for you to have a higher engagement.

This list is by no means exhaustive. There are many other quality thumbnail-makers for mobile that are worth trying, like the Thumbnail Maker for Android.

Should You Feed Your Pet Raw Meat?

Just as many people are trying to eat less processed food to improve their health, some dog owners are turning away from conventional pet food. Instead they’re trying to get back to what they see as a more traditional “butcher’s dog” diet of raw meat, albeit with pre-prepared products that can be served easily and frozen for convenience. A recent study has raised concerns about the health risks of these raw-meat based diet products as possible sources of some bacterial and parasitic diseases. But just how big a problem is this, and who is really at risk? Domestic dogs aren’t like wild carnivores. They have been evolving alongside humans for approximately 30,000 years, and their diet has been shaped by our own food and environment. They can easily survive on a mixed diet, often on waste from human settlements, and have even evolved to digest starch. Traditional dog diets would have included raw meat but also table scraps and other homemade foods. And unlike most human processed foods, manufactured pet food is often tailored to provide a key range of nutrients. After all, the move to commercial pet food coincided with increased research into the nutritional requirements of the dog.

The recent study in the Veterinary Record analyzed 35 commercial frozen raw meat products from eight different brands. It found E. coli in 28 products, Listeria monocytogenes in 19 of them, and Salmonella species in seven. Several products also contained parasites. Other studies have previously highlighted similar contamination of raw pet food in Canada, North America, and New Zealand.

By comparison, unprocessed raw meat from the butcher is less likely to be an issue than the products in the study, in the same way it is safer to eat rare steak than raw ground beef. The problem is that there is no study comparing commercially produced raw dog food with small batches of raw butcher’s meat, so we can’t be certain about how much riskier these manufactured products are.

Butcher’s meat is probably less risky. Shutterstock

For dogs, the bacteria and parasites found in food aren’t actually that much of a problem. Dogs are pretty resistant to many of the possible bugs that can be isolated from raw meat and they rarely become ill, though they can suffer gastric illness as a result of Salmonella.

But dogs can become carriers of these bacteria and spread them through their feces, which can lead to serious illness in humans.

What is especially significant is these food products’ level of contamination with bacteria that are resistant to treatment with antibiotics. This is a concern for both pet and human health. Infections with these bacteria are increasingly difficult to treat, and the spread of antibiotic resistance is a critical public health issue.

The parasitic pathogens found in the products can cause significant health problems, but aren’t as common and can mostly be inactivated by freezing the food at -4 degrees Fahrenheit.

Minimising the risks

For all the threat that this contamination poses, it’s worth remembering that many human food products are full of similar bugs. The UK Food Standards Agency recently reported that antibiotic resistant superbugs were found at record levels in supermarket chickens. Even bags of salad can contain Salmonella.

The same guidance for storing and preparing food for human consumption applies to raw meat pet food. Wash hands and surfaces thoroughly and often. Separate different foods to prevent cross-contamination. Defrost frozen items in the fridge, ideally in sealed containers and on the lowest shelves. Handle pet food bowls with care to prevent bacteria spreading to other surfaces and utensils.

Where the dangers from pet food differ is in the fact that pets can pass on bugs after they’ve eaten. Owners can become exposed in a range of ways such as direct contact via touching, petting, exposure to saliva and feces, and even sharing sleeping spaces. Bugs can also be passed on indirectly through contact with contaminated surfaces such as floors and toys.

But sensibly handling, cleaning, and caring for your dog should minimize the risks. Wash your hands with soap and hot water after handling your dogs’ food and after poo picking. Store human and pet bowls and utensils separately and, if possible, keep your dog out of human food preparation areas. With a little education and awareness, it is possible to go for raw food and minimize the potential risks.
