AMD’s Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition is a rocking piece of software for AMD graphics card owners. It lets users tweak their gameplay experience by adjusting game and display settings, including the ability to overclock your GPU in certain games and not others. It’s a neat piece of desktop software that can also record gameplay with a feature called ReLive.

Contained within the Radeon Overlay are a number of other features, including in-game live performance monitoring that displays a veritable smorgasbord of data for hardware freaks. It also contains a switch for Radeon Chill (AMD’s super-smart power saving and cooling software), as well as controls for frame rates and color. The Radeon Overlay is available on the Windows desktop as well as in-game.

Going back to ReLive, the feature can record gameplay for posterity, stream it to the world, or grab a screenshot. ReLive streaming integrates with Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Microsoft’s Mixer, as well as Stage Ten and Sina Weibo. That’s quite a wide range of online streaming platforms to access and should cover the needs of most people.

By default, ReLive records at the in-game resolution with a maximum 60 frames per second. That’s adjustable, however, as is the encoding (AVC or HEVC). For anyone who doesn’t want to do a straight-up recording all the time, ReLive includes an instant replay feature that, by default, will save the last minute of gameplay when you press a hotkey. This setting is customizable up to a full 20 minutes of gameplay, though I’d suggest five minutes or less is ideal for most games. Instant Replay is easily one of the best features of any recording software since it lets gamers save a key move, goof, or bug after the fact.

ReLive also doubles as a video capture tool for the desktop to create how-to tutorials  or just to show something off. ReLive will fail to run, however, if a browser is displaying protected content such as a Netflix stream. Even if the tab is open but not visible, ReLive will refuse to work.

To stop recording, hit Ctrl + Shift + R again. Recordings are then accessible in the videos folder in Windows or via Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition under the Connect tab. Within the desktop software users can play, share, and even trim down videos for minor edits.

Overall, activating ReLive dropped the average frame rate by a small but noticeable 5 to 10 frames per second in each game. That’s about the same as we saw with Nvidia’s ShadowPlay, built into the company’s GeForce Experience software for GeForce graphics cards.

The smallest performance drop was in the more modern Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, a game that this eGPU system was already struggling to make playable with the non-recording frame rate hitting 29fps, a point below our definition of acceptable console-level performance.

Conclusion

ReLive is great, and in many ways I prefer it to ShadowPlay and GeForce Experience. The Radeon Overlay is more usable and easier to navigate, and if you can’t be bothered to call it up there’s even a smartphone app called AMD Link to activate the ReLive controls instead. The performance is about the same as Nvidia’s software and while ReLive doesn’t have anything original or new compared to other screen capture tools it gets the job done and does it well.

Amd’s Radeon Rx 6600 Xt Is An ‘Epic 1080P’ Graphics Card With A Not

We’ll get to performance in a moment but need to start with the elephant in the room: the price. The graphics card the RX 6600 XT is replacing—the last-gen Radeon RX 5600 XT —launched a full $100 cheaper, at $279. It, too, was positioned as a no-compromises 1080p offering. At $379, this new RDNA 2 offering costs even more than last generation’s step-up card, the $350 Radeon RX 5700 . In fact its price falls closer to that of the $400 Radeon RX 5700 XT. Oof. (And don’t forget that the older Radeon RX 480 and 580 delivered exceptional 1080p gaming for $200 just a couple of generations back.)

Nearly nine long months after the Radeon RX 6800 and 6800 XT GPUs launched, AMD’s radical new RDNA 2 architecture is finally coming to the midrange—though the midrange sure is a lot more expensive in the midst of a crippling graphics card shortage . At ChinaJoy on Thursday evening, AMD announced the long-awaited Radeon RX 6600 XT for “epic 1080p gaming” at high refresh rates, with a not-so-epic $379 price tag.

Moving on to the current generation, the Radeon RX 6600 XT comes in at $100 less than the step-up $479 Radeon RX 6700 XT, but $50 more than the GeForce RTX 3060, Nvidia’s competing 1080p offering. At $379, the Radeon RX 6600 XT more reasonably battles the $400 GeForce RTX 3060 Ti—or it would, in a sane world where MSRPs actually mattered.

Radeon product manager Nish Neelalojanan told me that the suggested pricing is “a snapshot of the current reality,” saying that memory chip prices doubled from the first to the third quarter. Technology companies are having difficulty securing materials (like substrate) to make chips. AMD just confirmed that its chip supply will remain tight throughout 2023. Logistics pricing also remains sky-high as the world struggles with pandemic reality. Miners and scalpers are just part of the reason GPUs cost so much, friends. Having a new graphics card available might help some with those troublemakers, at least.

But enough price chit-chat. It’s going to be even higher in the real world for now anyway. Let’s talk frame rates.

Radeon RX 6600 XT performance

AMD is making big promises about Radeon RX 6600 XT performance at 1080p resolution, saying it will be 15 percent faster overall than RTX 3060. The RTX 3060, it must be pointed out, also costs 15 percent less. So while AMD’s victory will be real indeed if its claims prove true, it’s not something worth crowing about from a price-to-performance perspective.

The gains look more impressive when compared against graphics cards from prior generations. AMD says the Radeon RX 6600 XT blows past not only the RX 5600 XT it’s replacing, but also the step-up Radeon RX 5700 (which, again, costs $30 less than the 6600 XT). And it really puts a bruising on the GTX 1060, which may be aged but nevertheless remains the most popular GPU on the Steam Hardware Survey.

That is, at least in terms of raw frame rates: Upscaling technology can be very hit-and-miss in actual visual quality at the 1080p resolution this card targets, because it’s working with far fewer raw pixels than higher 1440p and 4K resolutions. The proof will be in the pudding—though AMD also claims that the Radeon RX 6600 XT is powerful to drive some 1440p and even 4K gaming experiences with FSR active, as shown in the slide below.

We’ll have to wait until we have the card in our hands to render an official performance verdict, but don’t be surprised if it winds up being surprisingly decent at 1440p gaming in many titles as well—especially ones that support AMD’s killer suite of supplemental software. Smart Access Memory (AMD’s enhanced version of PCIe Resizable BAR) can speed up most any modern game when you pair the RX 6600 XT with an AMD Ryzen 5000 processor. FSR and truly helpful features like Radeon Boost and Radeon Anti-Lag can both boost frame rates and reduce latency, potentially giving you enough of a bump that you could step up to a higher-resolution screen, or hang onto your graphics card for a little longer. Regardless, if you have a Radeon GPU, you should enable those features in supported games. They’re great.

Asus Radeon R7 250 1Gb Review

graphics card is one option for anyone looking for an upgrade to a basic integrated graphics solution. But what if you want something with a little extra firepower, only without paying significantly more? Well, the R7 250 will set you back another £20, but offers rather more in the way of performance.

Not that you’ll necessarily detect a dramatic difference in the hardware. Like the 240, the R7 250 is rather hampered by its 128-bit memory interface. This is just too narrow and limited to allow maximum throughput, ensuring that the supply of data is constantly being choked off. But worse news may come when you look at the memory itself. GDDR5 RAM is included in this example – but there are versions of the 250 restricted to GDDR3, and you should avoid those.

The enhanced memory is a feather in the 250’s cap but, alas, there’s only 1 GB of it. Given that many of the 240 cards have 2 GB – with some even promising a rather ridiculous 4 GB – just 1 GB for the R7 250 seems a step backwards.

Speaking truthfully, you won’t generally be wanting to overload these cards with the kinds of high resolutions and chunky graphics textures that demand large gollops of video memory. For most purposes, then, 1 GB will be more than enough. However, we would prefer to see 2 GB of GDDR5. There are 2 GB versions to be had, but these mostly use the inferior GDDR3 RAM.

There is better news elsewhere, though. The 250 has marginally more stream processors – 384 to the R7 240’s 320. More crucially, the 250 builds significantly on the R7 240’s lowly clock rates. See all PC Components and Upgrades reviews.

The 240’s 720-750 MHz core clock, for instance, has been upped to a decent 1 GHz – with an extra 50 MHz available through Boost. The texture units have also been handsomely upgraded, from 20 on the Radeon R7 240, to a healthier 56 here. That allows the R7 250 to boast a comparatively generous texture fill rate of 58.8 GT/sec – almost four times the R7 240’s feeble figure of 15.6 GT/sec.

Memory bandwidth scores another massive victory for the 250, and its 1150 MHz memory clock (4600 MHz DDR effective) overwhelms the 240’s 400 MHz (1.6 GHz). That amounts to a memory bandwith figure of 73.6 GB/sec – almost three times that of the 240’s 25.6 GB/sec.

In practice, the 250 doesn’t generate the three to four times the performance that you might expect from the memory bandwidth and texture fill rates. However, it does produce as much as 70% higher frame rates when playing games. And at this low level, that’s often the difference between ‘almost unplayable’ and ‘relatively smooth’. The figures we saw of 68.1 fps and 63.4 fps in Stalker: Call of Pripyat (at 1680 x 1050 and 1920 x 1200 respectively) will allow for fluid gameplay, and you’ll even be able to ratchet up the detail levels, should you wish. In contrast, the 240 was stranded on 43.2 and 37 fps.

However, the similarly priced AMD Radeon HD 7770 is still available, and that betters the 250 once more, turning in 87 and 75.8 fps.

It’s a similar story in BattleForge, where the 250’s figures of 60.3 and 56.6 fps rather destroyed the 240’s 42.6 and 39.9 fps – but importantly this year’s card was still fall far behind the 7770’s 80.3 and 77.4 fps.

Bioshock (at low detail levels) stressed this point further. The 250 notched up 70.3 and 57.7 fps, far ahead of the 240s’s 46.3 and 34fps, but trailing in the wake of the 7770’s 90.1 and 77.6 fps.

Amd Radeon Rx 7000 Series: La Apuesta De Gráficas Para El 2023

La gama actualizada hace uso de la nueva arquitectura de juegos RDNA 3 de AMD para ofrecer importantes mejoras en el rendimiento y, a diferencia de Nvidia, AMD no solo ha mantenido los mismos precios, sino que ha conseguido rebajarlos en algunos casos. 

A continuación describimos todo lo que hay que saber sobre la serie AMD Radeon RX 7000, incluida la presentación de la serie RX 7000 que la compañía ha anunciado para impulsar la potencia gráfica de ordenadores y portátiles. 

¿Cuándo se lanzó la serie AMD Radeon RX 7000?

Tanto la Radeon RX 7900 XT como la RX 7900 XTX de gama alta fueron lanzadas el 13 de diciembre de 2023, apenas un mes después de que saliera a la venta la gráfica de la competencia Nvidia RTX 4080. 

Por su parte, cabe esperar que los primeros ordenadores portátiles equipados con la serie RX 7000 comenzarán a aparecer en el mercado a lo largo de los primeros meses de este año, con lo que no van a hacerse esperar demasiado tiempo desde su anuncio. 

¿Cuánto cuesta la serie AMD Radeon RX 7000?

A pesar de los rumores de que la gama de tarjetas gráficas de nueva generación de AMD podrían presentar un gran incremento de precio, especialmente cuando hemos visto que la serie 40 de Nvidia también se ha vuelto más cara, la compañía no solo ha mantenido los precios sino que en algunos casos los ha logrado reducir. 

Según esto, la Radeon RX 7900 XTX de gama alta y sus 24 GB de VRAM resulta ser más barata que el modelo buque insignia RTX 4080, presentando un precio de tan solo 999 dólares según la fuente oficial.

Por supuesto, las marcas fabricantes e integradoras darán su propio giro a las GPU y, sin duda, eso podría suponer un incremento en los precios. Pero ver que el precio recomendado de AMD es inferior es algo que los usuarios reciben como una muy buena noticia. 

AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series para ordenadores de escritorio

En lugar de desvelar toda la familia de gráficas GPU, AMD ha decidido centrarse en dos modelos de la gama alta durante su anuncio oficial. Dicho esto, la compañía anunció la Radeon RX 7900 y la RX 7900 XTX, ambas usando la arquitectura RDNS 3 de nueva generación. 

Radeon RX 7900 XTX

La RX 7900 XTX es una GPU nueva que se estrena este año, aunque la marca XTX se ha utilizado en productos AMD en el pasado. Se posiciona como la tarjeta gráfica de gama más alta dentro de lo que es la colección de gráficas de este año con unas especificaciones impresionantes. 

No profundizaremos demasiado en los números, pero debes saber que cuenta con 24 GB de GDDR6 VRAM, una disipación de potencia de 350 W, 96 unidades informáticas RDNA 3 unificadas y garantiza una velocidad de reloj de 2,3 GHz.

Aunque todavía tenemos que probar la GPU, AMD afirma que es hasta 1,7 veces más rápida que la RX 6950 XT cuando la utilizas con juegos y resoluciones 4K.

Otras características interesantes incluyen soporte para DisplayPort 2.1 actualizado, un kit particularmente importante que admite frecuencias de actualización más altas en resoluciones 4K y 8K, ideal para la potencia gráfica que se ofrece. 

De hecho, es algo que no emplea la serie RTX 40 de Nvidia, lo que la convierte en una victoria para AMD. También opta por usar dos conectores de 8 pines en lugar del conector de alimentación de 12 VHPWR que se encuentra en la GPU RTX 4090 y que tantos problemas ha ocasionado. 

Radeon RX 7900 XT

Justo detrás de la 7900 XTX está el modelo 7900 XT estándar. No es tan potente como el modelo XTX, pero con 20 GB de memoria GDDR6, 84 unidades informáticas RDNA 3 unificadas y un reloj de juego de 2 GHz, tampoco se queda atrás.

Al igual que con el modelo XTX, el 7900 XT cuenta con soporte para DisplayPort 2.1 actualizado para velocidades de cuadro más altas a resoluciones más altas, y también utiliza dos conectores de 8 pines en lugar del conector defectuoso de 12 pines del RTX 4090.

Se espera que brinde una experiencia de juego 4K cómoda con el trazado de rayos habilitado y, dadas las mejoras en la tecnología FSR de AMD, los jugadores también deberían poder alcanzar velocidades de cuadro bastante impresionantes. 

AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series para portátiles

El apartado de gráficas GPU para portátiles también es un área clave para AMD. Según esto, la compañía desveló variantes móviles de la serie Radeon RX 7000 para portátiles durante el evento de CES 2023. 

Por un lado están las Radeon RX 7600M XT y 7600M, ambas diseñadas para juegos de 1080p con fps altos, mientras que las RX 7700S y RX 7600S están diseñadas para modelos de portátiles delgados y livianos.

La compañía también aprovechó la oportunidad para revelar algunas GPU móviles que utilizan la tecnología RDNA 2 de última generación que probablemente terminarán pasando a formar parte de la configuración de portátiles más económicos en un futuro cercano.

La RX 7600M XT de AMD es la mejor GPU para portátiles de empresa, con 32 unidades de cómputo y 8 GB de memoria GDDR6. Tiene la capacidad de utilizar hasta 120 vatios de potencia y, según AMD, supera a la GPU RTX 3060 de escritorio en algunos juegos. 

En esencia, la RX 7600M XT puede alcanzar una velocidad de fotogramas de hasta 184 fps en títulos como Hitman 3 con la configuración de gráficos al máximo, mientras que la RTX 3060 se queda en un valor de fotogramas de 160 fps.

Sin embargo, la 7600M XT se queda atrás de la 3060 en otros juegos tales como PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, donde solo alcanza una velocidad de cuadros de 145 fps en comparación con los 154 fps de la RX 3060.

Desde AMD también afirman que la 7700S puede alcanzar velocidades de cuadro de hasta 87 fps en Cyberpunk 2077 y 147 fps en títulos como Death Stranding con gráficos configurados al máximo de 1080p.

Sin duda alguna, será interesante ver el rendimiento que ofrecerán los portátiles que integren la nueva serie de gráficas RX 7000 y cómo se comportan frente a la competencia RTX de Nvidia. Saldremos de dudas muy pronto, a lo largo de los próximos meses.

Mini Review: Schatzii Bullet – Tiny, Stylish, Expensive, Limited Battery

If there was one thing I would have sworn you could never interest me in trying, it was yet another Bluetooth earpiece. There are about a zillion of these available (well, 45,322 according to Amazon), and for the most part my view has always been that if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen ’em all. Stick them in your ear and get tinny, one-eared sound that is hopeless for music but does the job for hands-free phone calls when you don’t have access to an installed setup in your car.

But I had to admit that the Schatzii Bullet is rather smaller and more stylish than most, with a cute charging system that goes some way toward making up for the somewhat limited battery-life that inevitably accompanies such a small device. It seemed worth a try …

What you see in the photo above, with my iPhone SE for scale, is the earpiece in its charging tube.

The earpiece itself, shown below, measures just 2cm long by 1.5cm wide. The whole unit sits inside your ear, with nothing dangling down or sitting on your ear. That fact, coupled to the amazingly light 3.5g weight, makes it far more comfortable than the typical Bluetooth earpiece out there.

The downside, of course, is a limited battery-life. Although it’s good for 80 hours on standby, you only get around 90 minutes of talk-time. For someone like a cab driver, who is on the phone for much of the day, this would be wildly impractical. But for many of us, an hour is actually enough to make it through the day.

And when the battery runs out, that’s not game over if you don’t need continuous use. Because that charging tube is a portable power pack that can recharge the earpiece up to three times. The earpiece just snaps magnetically into place, and recharges in around an hour. So if you have a one-hour commute, for example, you could use it all the way in, snap it into the charging tube in your pocket and then use it all the way home again.

The whole unit – earpiece plus power pack – measures less than 6.5cm long by 1.5cm wide, so slips easily into any pocket.

You get an extremely discreet red LED while it’s charging, which goes out when it’s fully-charged. You recharge the power pack itself via a supplied micro-USB lead, hidden beneath a cap on the other end of the tube.

At the business end, the earpiece also snaps very firmly into place via a strong magnet. I didn’t feel there was any risk of it coming loose in my pocket, and indeed it remained in place both in a pocket and in a bag.

Sound quality is exactly what you’d expect from a tiny Bluetooth earpiece: distinctly average. Nobody would be using a single earpiece for music, and volume is limited, but it’s adequate for phone calls in most environments, including a car. It wouldn’t cope with very noisy places, but very few earpieces do. It does, though, have built-in noise-reduction, and I could hear well enough in a train station.

But you can’t really beat the Bullet when it comes to portability, especially when you take into account the very neat charging system.
