The Black Shark 4 Pro has more colour options than the regular version. It is available in Black, Gray, Ink Sea Black, and Pink. This smartphone comes with a Snapdragon 888 flagship processor. It also uses the UFS 3.1 storage as well as LPDDR5 RAM.

The Black Shark 4 Pro uses a Samsung E4 material AMOLED gaming screen. This display supports a 144Hz screen refresh rate, and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. Its touch response delay is as low as 8.3ms.

The Black Shark 4 Pro further uses a new “sandwich” liquid cooling system. It has a built-in double-layer three-dimensional heat dissipation system. This system increases the heat dissipation efficiency by 30%. It also reduces the CPU core temperature by 18 degrees.

The disk array system is composed of an enhanced version of UFS3.1+ customized SSD. This increases the storage read performance by up to 55%. The storage write performance also increases by up to 69%. This greatly increases the speed of game installation and file processing.

Iqoo 3 With Snapdragon 865 Soc, 48Mp Quad

Merely a day after Realme unveiled India’s first 5G smartphone, Vivo’s gaming sub-brand iQOO has launched the second 5G phone in the country today. It was supposed to be the first but Realme stole its thunder. However, the iQOO 3 is now official and it brings in tow the Snapdragon 865 chipset, 5G connectivity, 48MP quad-camera, fast-charging, and more.

iQOO 3: Specs and Features

Starting off with the design, iQOO 3 boasts a premium glass build on the Tornado Black variant whereas you get a rubber matte finish on the Orange variant. The company has used Gorilla Glass 6 protection and I quite like the design and color choices here. You’re getting a rectangular camera module and the iQOO branding on the rear, which is quite clean.

As you just read above, Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 865 powers the iQOO 3 gaming smartphone. It’s coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The one thing that differentiates this device from the Realme X50 Pro will have to be the fact it comes both in 4G and 5G variants. Both of the variants will come with the Snapdragon X55 modem but only one of them (12GB + 256GB) has been certified with 5G connectivity support.

Yes, this means you can get a Snapdragon 865-powered phone only with 4G connectivity support. 5G connectivity is only a gimmick, a marketing fad in India at the moment. The company made the right choice by offering 4G-only variants to keep the price low, but it appears like Realme’s 5G offering has been able to match and possibly take it down.

In the camera department, iQOO 3 includes a rectangular quad-camera setup on the rear. You get a 48MP (f/1.8) primary camera, coupled with a 13MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle camera with a 120-degrees FOV, 13MP (f/2.4) telephoto camera with 20x zoom capability, and a 2MP depth sensor. iQOO 3 comes equipped with a 4,440mAh battery pack, along with Vivo’s 55W Super FlashCharge technology support. You get the 55W adapter in the box and it will enable you to juice up your device from 0% to 50% in around 15 minutes, which is amazing. It matches the likes of Realme’s 65W SuperDART fast-charging technology. You do get this pill-shaped charger that will make it easier for you to fill up the battery and game at the same time.

You also have a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, and a high-quality audio DAC, among a ton of other things. There’s no wireless charging or IP rating assigned here but that would have been amazing to have on a premium flagship phone like this one.

It’s been a pretty long wait, but the update to the Surface Pro 4 is here. Oddly, it’s not called the Surface Pro 5 but as you’ll see there are clear reasons for this.

What are the differences between Surface Pro 4 and the 2023 version?

Compare the key specifications (see our table below) and you could easily come to the conclusion that very little has changed.

The two tablets look the same, have the same 12.3in screen, selection of ports and – aside from very minor changes – the same chassis.

During the launch, Microsoft said the new tablet was thinner and lighter. However, that’s not exactly true. Its own website lists the same dimensions for the two and, depending in the configuration you choose, the new device is either a couple of grams lighter or heavier than the equivalent old model.

So it’s not thinner and no-one is going to notice that miniscule weight difference. Can you spot which is which?

Not everything remains the same, of course. The main difference is that the new Surface Pro includes the latest seventh-gen Intel Core processors, which also means upgraded integrated graphics.

Battery life is also improved from ‘up to 9 hours’ for the old model to ‘up to 13.5 hours’ from the new Surface Pro.

The last notable change is the new kick-stand hinge which now reclines to an almost-flat 165 degrees. This position is called ‘Studio mode’ and lets you use the Surface Pro like the Surface Studio – it’s a more comfortable angle to use for sketching and drawing.

Other minor improvements are better sound quality from the speakers and more rounded corners.

The Surface Pro 4’s stand allows it to tilt back to 150 degrees – the same as the Surface Pro 3. The extra 15 degrees sounds like a small change, but until we’ve properly tested the two devices, it’s hard to know if it really makes a difference or not.

As before, there’s a choice of ultra-low-power Core m3, i5 and i7 processors. The fanless Core m model is available from launch this time – it came later with the Surface Pro 4.

If you opt for the flagship model with 1TB of storage, that’s an NVMe SSD which should improve performance even more compared to the equivalent Surface Pro 4.

That covers the main tablet, but both the keyboard and Surface Pen have been updated for 2023 as well.

Like the recently announced Surface Laptop, the Type Cover keyboard is now skinned with Alcantara – a man-made suede-like material.

This costs £149 (US$159) and comes in three colours to match the new shades for the tablet: Cobalt Blue, Burgundy and Platinum. They go on sale 30 June, a couple of weeks after the Surface Pro.

The new Surface Pen comes in the same colours, plus black. It costs £99.99 (US$99.99) – yep, it’s not bundled in the box any more – but there’s no confirmed release date yet.

It’s longer than the old Surface Pen and does away with the clip. New is its ability to detect when you’re tilting the pen at an angle (similar to Apple’s Pencil) and can therefore more accurately reproduce the effect of that on screen.

Depending on the type of pen you’ve selected in an app, it could mean you get a thicker line the more you tilt.

The Surface Pro 4 has dropped in price now that the new version has been announced, and the Core i7 versions are no longer on sale in the US.

Should I buy the new Surface Pro?

It is, overall, very similar to its predecessor. That’s probably why it isn’t called the Surface Pro 5. The new processors mean better performance and battery life, but those are the significant two improvements.

Microsoft says the screen on the new tablet is better, but hasn’t yet specified how.

In the UK at least, the Core i7 versions of the Surface Pro 4 are significantly cheaper than the equivalents from the new range, and they’re even better value because they include a Surface Pen.

If you already own a Surface Pro 4, there’s no real incentive to upgrade unless you’re going from a low-powered model and are planning to buy a Core i7 version.

The Kde 4 Series: Pro And Con

The KDE desktop has been the center of changes and controversy for the last eighteen months. However, with last week’s release of version 4.3, the majority of users finally seem to accept — if not necessarily love — the changes. At this point, it seems fair to ask: How successful are the KDE 4 series of releases?

Personally, I was snared at the 4.0 release. It seemed to include the most interesting innovations on the GNU/Linux desktop (and still does). But the 4.0 release was not ready for everyday use, and I waited over a year for KDE 4.2 before switching to KDE for my main desktop.

Inevitably, that switch brought a degree of disillusionment. After all, following innovations is very different from using a piece of software every day. You need daily use over several months to appreciate a feature fully, or to become thoroughly irritated by it. I eventually found that I had growing lists of both pros and cons — some minor, and some major, but all of which affected my reaction to the KDE 4 series.

In theory, the KDE 4 series has all sorts of features that could transform the user experience. For example, Nepomuck, the metadata manager, should add a whole new dimension to desktop searching and sharing of information. Similarly, geolocation, whose basics are introduced in 4.3, opens immense (and sometimes ominous) possibilities.

However, for various reasons, none of these features has fully materialized yet. Instead, it is relatively minor features that shape my everyday appreciation of KDE:

Previews of desktop folders and tasks: In the latest KDE release, hovering the mouse over a minimized task or a folder opens a popup preview of the item. While this is a small feature, it makes locating the right item on a crowded desktop or task bar far easier than maximizing or opening an item.

Folder Views: When first introduced, Folder Views were supposed to be the end of icons on the desktop. Instead, the rumors claimed, we were all going to be forced to open our applications via the menu. But in practice, those of us who insist on icons on the desktop have never had a better tool than Folder View. Thanks to Folder View, instead of being stuck with one set of icons, we can maintain several, swapping them in a matter of a few seconds. Not only are the multiple icon sets efficient, but they eliminate the need for clumsy workarounds that are required in other desktops.

Activities: Activities are the next generation of virtual desktops. You can zoom out via the desktop tool box (more generally known as the cashew), and see and define activities, and switch between them. Add Activities to Folder Views, and customizing your desktop to your immediate needs becomes easy. In 4.3, you can also associate Activities with virtual desktops, although, fairly clearly, they are eventually going to replace virtual desktops altogether

Completist applications: Every once and awhile, you find a piece of free software that is so crammed with features that you can’t imagine any other application surpassing it. Such applications are a little awe-inspiring, and KDE has at least three of them: Kontact for personal information management, Amarok for music, and digiKam for image management. Amarok has recently released a new version specifically for the KDE 4 series, and digiKam is just about to. Although Amarok in particular has suffered something of the same reaction as KDE 4.0, all these programs are a joy to use if you take the trouble to learn them — although, strictly speaking, Kontact is a central organizer for several related programs.

Galaxy Note 4 Benchmark Suggests That The Exynos 5433 Outpaces The Snapdragon 805

The Exynos 5433 shows what ARM’s next generation CPU and GPU cores can do.

The Exynos 5433 comes out as the faster of the two in AnTuTu, surpassing the 40,000 mark with an impressive score of 40,303, to be exact. The new Snapdragon 805 SoC scores a still highly respectable 37780. So, we are looking at around a 15 percent performance boost compared with the current Galaxy Note 3. You’ll also note that the Snapdragon 805 scores only marginally higher than the Snapdragon 801 and 800, reaffirming earlier benchmarks which showed that Qualcomm’s new chips are mostly making ground in the graphics department.

Cortex-A5X vs Krait 450

One of the benefits of AnTuTu is that we can also see scores broken down at the component level, such as the CPU, RAM, and CPU. The quad-core Snapdragon 805 makes use of Qualcomm’s slightly revised Krait 450 CPU cores, which offer up a small performance boost over the current Krait 400 cores, whilst the Exynos 5433 give us an early look at how ARM’s new Cortex-A57 and A53 cores stack up in their octo-core big.LITTLE configuration.

The Exynos 5433 scores considerably higher than the Snapdragon 805 in CPU tests, quite possibly due to the new high performance ARM Cortex A57 CPU core.

Looking at the chart above, you can clearly see that the Exynos 5433’s new Cortex A5X CPU cores topple Qualcomm’s Krait architecture. Whilst that might not be surprising as we are pitting eight cores against four, Samsung enabled all eight cores to run at once as of the Exynos 5420, but the Exynos 5433 is apparently running at just 1.3GHz. If true, that’s a very impressive CPU score with the potential for large energy efficiencies, due to the low clock speed. We will have to wait to verify this result, but it is a hugely impressive initial display from ARM’s new range of CPU cores.

Adreno 420 vs Mali-T760

Based on AnTuTu, there’s a similar difference between the two SoC’s GPU scores, the Snapdragon 805’s new Adreno 420 GPU loses out to the new ARM Mali-T760 found in the Exynos 5433, at least at this higher display resolution. Interestingly, these two SoCs with newer CPU cores fall just short of the Tegra K1 in the overall AnTuTu rankings, suggesting that NVIDIA’s new chip really is packing in some mighty GPU power.

The Mali-T760 seems to have the edge at QHD (2560×1400) resolutions.

It’s also worth noting that although the Exynos 5433 seems to have the better GPU, the Mali-T760 is the top end GPU in ARM’s latest generation. Qualcomm, on the other hand, is planning to bring out its even more powerful Adreno 430 with the Snapdragon 810, which could put the Snapdragon range back on top in the future.

Overall, it looks like a very promising start for the next generation of ARM Cortex-A5X CPUs and another step up in terms of GPU performance. Of course, benchmarks have been shown to be unreliable in the past, so we shouldn’t consider these results as final.

Looking at Samsung’s previous rollouts, it seems likely that the two versions of the Galaxy Note 4 will be sold exclusively in different regions, which may leave a bit of a performance gap between consumers.
