Nutritrack

Thinking about switching calorie-counting apps after the whole My Fitness Pal debacle? Check out Nutritrack. It tracks calories in both food and recipes, macronutrients like carbs, proteins and fats, barcode scanning, recipe creation, and food creation. It has over a million foods in its database and integrates with your workout information. Now this is a freemium app, so you’ll have to sign up for a subscription plan to get access to all the features. But for folks looking for a new health-food tracker, this seems like a good one to check out.

Shapr, Statmuse, Check, And Other Apps To Check Out This Weekend

This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features a Tinder-like app for networking with like-minded people, an engaging sports app, and an ephemeral todo/task manager. And as always, we’ve picked two great new games for you to check out.

Shapr

This isn’t a new app, but it’s an interesting concept that I think is worth checking out if you haven’t yet. Shapr is a personalized, mindful way of networking. Based on your interests and experience, the app provides a daily dose of inspiring, like-minded people to meet nearby in your area. Whether you’re seeking friends or employees, each swipe is a new opportunity and a new discovery. Think of it like a dating app, but for professional networking. Kind of cool, right? Shapr is available for free.

StatMuse

Sports fans looking for a new way to follow and learn about their favorite teams and players may want to check out StatMuse. This app allows you to talk with your favorite players and personalities for your daily sports conversations. Keep up with the latest scores, stats and original content about the teams you love through personalized musings, and get instant NBA, NFL and MLB trivia answers dating back to 1876. Features the real voices of greats like Peyton Manning, Jerry Rice, Drew Brees, and more. StatMuse is available for free.

Check

Now I know what you’re thinking: great, ANOTHER todo list app. But I like options, and for the folks out there in search of more options for todo list apps, this one might be worth Check-ing out (see what I did there?). Check is an ephemeral to-do list app of sorts. You can rapidly create new tasks and add a duration period. At the end of that duration, your todos will expire and disappear. Ultimately you can revive the tasks you don’t finish from your “task graveyard” but the whole concept of getting your tasks done before they’re gone is the motivation here. Maybe this works for you, maybe it doesn’t. Either way, Check….it out. Check is available for free.

Iron Marines

From the creators of the award winner Kingdom Rush trilogy comes the most extraordinary space odyssey. A real-time, dynamic and deep strategy game that will transport you to amazing and unknown planets. Immersive, engaging gameplay, ridiculously appealing art, and a touch of silly humor. Brave soldiers, mighty mechas and powerful aliens await your command to face the greatest challenges. Yes this is a trashy freemium game with tons of IAPs, on top of an initial purchase price, but early reviews are through the roof. Iron Marines is available for $5 (with several IAPs).

Drag’n’Boom

In Drag’n’Boom, you play as a rebellious teenage dragon and burn everything your path! Roast the neighboring lords and steal their gold in order to mass the greatest treasure ever held by a dragon. It’s a unique mobile gaming experience. The left side of the screen controls your movement: jump, fly and charge your prey, and the right side lets you spit fireballs: pillage, burn and ransack. There are over 50 levels to power through and a leaderboard, so you can challenge your friends for high score. Drag’n’Boom is available for free.

Hal, Telescope, Weightroom Workout Tracker, And Other Apps To Check Out This Weekend

This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features a new digital assistant run by humans, a powerful news reader app and a minimal workout tracker. And as usual, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.

Hal

No, it can’t open the pod bay doors. But the new Hal app promises to be the digital assistant you’ve been pining for. It’s not power by AI though, it’s powered by real live humans. Hungry for pizza? Hal’s got you covered. Need a plumber? They’re on the way. Think of Hal as a network of humans sitting at their computers, ready to answer your questions and help you with tasks. Privacy is key here, with every connection being made to a random person who knows nothing about you. Early reviews say the service works like magic. Unfortunately, it’s currently only available in a handful of cities, but the app was just too interesting not to mention.

Telescope

Telescope is a news reader app where you can follow news sources, video channels and the RSS you love. All of the content you describe to is aggregated into a ‘Home Feed’ with the latest articles and videos sorted by their popularity amongst readers. The app is packed full of features and UI is very sharp. I know these days Twitter and other platforms have sort of replaced RSS apps like this, but for those looking for a different (or nostalgic) way to get the news, Telescope seems worth checking out.

Weightroom Workout Tracker

Weightroom Workout Tracker is….well I’m sure you can guess. I know the name is a bit on the nose, and there are already hundreds of these apps in the App Store, but I think this type of software is extremely subjective—meaning, different features and designs are going to appeal to different people. And the most important thing about an app like this is that you like it, because then you’re far more likely to use it. WWT lets you track your workouts, progress and easily share both with friends. Features include detailed graphs, photo/video upload and it even has a built-in rest timer. If you’re looking for a simple workout tracker, that’s not flooded with IAPs, check this one out.

Crazy Path

Looking for a quick-twitch game you can just pick up and play during brief moments of downtime? Check out Crazy Path. In it, players are tasked with escaping revolving mazes that get progressively more difficult. The gameplay is super simple: when blank spaces line up between side-by-side rings, tap the screen. Your piece will move to the next level. Tap your way through the entire maze, and a new one will load up. This is one of those games where I imagine there are several versions of it in the App Store, but this is the first one I’ve come across. It’s fast, it’s fun and it’s deceptively challenging.

R.B.I. Baseball 18

With baseball season now in full swing, it only felt right to mention this year’s version of the excellent R.B.I. Baseball game. The title has taken a significant leap this year, delivering an all-new Franchise Mode, new detailed player models, hundreds of new animations, high fidelity MLB ballparks, revamped crowd system, more dynamic camera angles and a stunning UI presentation. This is widely regarded as one of the best mobile baseball games available, so if you’re a fan of the sport, or are just looking for a new arcade/simulation game to play, be sure to check it out this weekend.

Atmos, Bio Locker, Musessions, And Other Jailbreak Tweaks To Check Out This Weekend

The jailbreak community is staying intact despite a slow couple of weeks; fortunately, new life was breathed into the jailbreak community this week with the launch of the Phoenix iOS 9.3.5 jailbreak and with the release of several interesting new jailbreak tweaks.

In this roundup, we’ll discuss all the new tweaks that launched in Cydia this week, starting with our favorites and then capping off with all the rest afterward.

Our favorite releases this week Atmos – $1.50

Priority Hub was a popular tweak for jailbreakers that allowed for better organization of notifications from the Lock screen and Notification Center, but since it was never updated for iOS 10, it left a few users sour.

Atmos is the solution to that problem; although it’s not free like the original Priority Hub was, it brings the same features to jailbroken iOS 10 devices.

The tweak is customizable and lets you sort your notifications on a per-app basis from both the Lock screen and Notification Center so that you’ll never have to feel overwhelmed by an influx of notifications again.

You can read our full review of Atmos to learn more about how it works.

Bio Locker – $1.99

Some people are more paranoid about their privacy than others, and while a passcode or Touch ID for signing into your device is enough for most iPhone users, those who demand more may want to look into Bio Locker.

This tweak provides a whole host of security options, including using Touch ID to launch apps, open folders, access the App Switcher, and modify notifications.

There are several other aspects to the tweak as well, but since there’s so much to this tweak, we’d suggest reading our full review to learn more.

Musessions – $3.00

Perhaps you use more than one music service on your device, and you’re looking for a more unified experience for your music? If so, Musessions is your best friend.

This app has a history tracker that keeps track of everything you listen to from every app. It also brings music importing to the Music app so you could add any music you’ve listened to previously to Apple’s stock Music app.

With its built-in media player and in-depth customization and control, Musessions is an app music junkies will want to check out. To learn more about its inner-workings, you can read our full review.

Privasee, Squeaktime, And Other Jailbreak Tweaks To Try This Weekend

It’s been an exciting week for the jailbreak community. Not only have we witnessed the launch of a brand-new iOS 11-centric jailbreak dubbed unc0ver, but we’ve also been fortunate enough to observe a bevy of new jailbreak tweaks that are compatible with the new platform.

In this roundup, we’ll talk about all the new jailbreak tweaks released from Monday, October 15th to Sunday, October 21st. As usual, we’ll kick things off by discussing our favorite releases first, and then we’ll outline the rest afterward.

Our favorite releases this week Moonshine – $2.00

Moonshine is a new jailbreak tweak that ports the Apple Watch‘s great semi-circular charge animation to the iPhone.

Once connected, the display shows an Apple Watch-style Nightstand Mode as long as its connected to a power source.

You can learn more about Moonshine and how it can be used in our full review.

PrivaSee – $1.49

PrivaSee is a new jailbreak tweak that brings upgraded privacy features to your jailbroken iPhone.

Right out of the box, it can require Touch ID or Face ID authentication to launch apps of your choice. The tweak can also necessitate Touch ID or Face ID authentication to view incoming notification banner contents, which are otherwise blurred out until you do so.

If you’re looking for improved security for your ever-so-important privacy, then check out our full review of PrivaSee to learn more about how it can improve your life.

SqueakTime – $1.49

SqueakTime is an innovative new release for jailbroken iPhones that lets you replace the native Lock screen time indicator with native Apple Watch clock faces.

These animated Apple Watch clock faces tell the actual time from your iPhone’s display, and you don’t even need an Apple Watch to get started.

You can learn more about SqueakTime and how it augments the time-telling experience on the iPhone in our full review.
