Whether it be comfortable gaming chairs or 165Hz QHD monitors, GALAX runs the gamut on PC peripherals, and will soon set the stage with its all-new HOF Extreme 50 Gen 5 NVMe SSD lineup.

PCIe 5.0 SSDs will no sooner be dominating the PC memory storage space, leveraging read and write speeds that far surpass their predecessors.

Current SSD deals

GALAX is attempting to hit the market strong with a new set of HOF Extreme 50 NVMe SSDs at capacities of 1, 2, and even 4 TB of storage that even feature active cooling solutions and support for its Magic Disk Xtreme Tuner software.

Though GALAX may not be as well-known as rivals such as Corsair, Samsung, or Crucial, its many various high-end SSD offerings out of its Gamer and HOF series prove it’s worthy of exposure in tandem with an exciting new line of PCIe 5.0 SSDs on the Phison E26 controller.

HOF Extreme 50 Gen 5 SSD Specs

The flagship M.2 SSDs out of GALAX will leverage the Gen 5.0 Phison PS5026-E26 controller, which is based on a TSMC 12nm process and a 232-layer 3D TLC NAND Flash memory chip. This will gift the upcoming HOF Extreme 50 SSD some swift read and write speeds, laid bare below with additional features and specs:

Read speeds rating: 12 GB/s

Write speeds rating: 10 GB/s

4K random read speeds rating: 1500K IOPS

4K random write speeds rating: 1250K IOPS

Storage capacities: 1, 2, and 4 TB

Both standard and heatsink options

New active cooling solution

GALAX Magic Disk Xtreme Tuner software support

With its newly devised active cooling solution, GALAX is opening the door to better heat dissipation procedures for its Gen 5 HOF Extreme 50 SSD. The new line of sophisticated storage devices will be outputting far more heat than their predecessors, which calls for substantially better cooling technology.

It’s unclear as of yet what this specifically looks like for the new HOF Extreme 50 line, but it should offer continuous SSD operation procedures that can be customized and viewed amid the firm’s included Magic Disk Xtreme Tuner software. The software comes equipped with helpful features, like temperature monitoring, storage optimization, SMART self-check, secure erase, and much more.

HOF Extreme 50 Gen 5 SSD price

There is no official word on pricing just yet for the new HOF Extreme 50 SSDs, but we will be regularly updating this page accordingly as official information drops out of GALAX. Pricing will be in accordance with storage capacities and whether consumers choose a heatsink or standard model.

Thus, they won’t exactly be budget SSDs. These Gen 5 SSD prices could be anywhere from $350 to $400 depending on several factors. No official pricing for any PCIe Gen 5 SSDs has been announced, so it’s a gamble on what retailers will be setting their price points at for the moment. More information should be debuted closer to the launch of AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series CPUs.

HOF Extreme 50 Gen 5 SSD release date

Similarly, an official release date has not been announced by GALAX, but given that Ryzen 7000 series CPUs won’t be debuting until September 27th, it’s safe to assume the HOF Extreme 50 SSDs will be dropping around the same time frame.

Most assorted SSD manufacturers are gearing up for the arrival of Gen 5 coming later this year. This includes AOURUS, MSI, Corsair, and many more. These should also offer support for AMD’s Smart Access Storage and Microsoft’s DirectStorage API technologies, but specifically for GALAX’s Gen 5 SSD, it’s unclear at the time of writing.

A Possible Airport Extreme Replacement? Hands

Since the news broke that Apple is getting out of the router business, I’ve been looking to replace my AirPort Extreme. I wanted something with more power-user features, and the Synology RT2600ac stood out as a likely candidate. The $229.99 RT2600ac, which is the follow-up to last year’s popular RT1900ac, contains a wealth of new additions, and is considerably more power-user friendly than Apple’s AirPort Extreme.

Synology’s routers run the SRM operating system, which makes managing the RT2600ac similar to driving one of the company’s popular NAS boxes. But does this router make a good replacement for the easy-to-use AirPort Extreme? Have a look at our hands-on video walkthrough as I showcase 15 of my favorite RT2600ac features.

Speed and power

As far as wireless coverage is concerned, I noticed that my iPhone was able to maintain full wireless signal strength anywhere in my house when connected to the RT2600ac. With the AirPort Extreme, I had a few areas where the signal would drop a bar when connected to either band.

Airport Extreme vs RT2600ac from the same spot in my office

I performed a speed test from my office, which happens to be one of the areas where the signal drops, and I noticed a moderate speed difference while on the 2.4 Ghz band. Granted, this is far from a scientific test, and more of a feature overview, but I’m quite happy with the RT2600ac’s wireless performance in various areas around my house. It even performs well out in the garage, a spot where I usually have trouble maintaining a decent connection.

That said, I live in a fairly modest house, so you might be better off checking out mesh network options like the eero or Google Wifi if you dwell in a large multi-floor abode.

Powering the RT2600ac is an unspecified 1.7 Ghz dual core chip, which is accompanied by a healthy 512 MB of RAM. Such a hardware investment proves to be worthwhile, as it ensures that the unit’s SRM web interface is responsive and snappy.

Update: Synology has pushed an update for the RT2600ac to fix the KRACK WPA2 exploit. You should update to SRM version 1.1.5-6542-3 as soon as possible.

Smart Connect

Synology’s RT2600ac ships with a feature called Smart Connect, which combines the unit’s SSID with the shared Wi-Fi settings for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

As you move a supported device closer to the router, it will automatically switch to the 5 Ghz radio, which is more effective at closer range. But as you venture further away from the router, the device is switched to 2.4 Ghz. Hence, Smart Connect affords compatible devices the best possible connection based on location, and the user doesn’t have to worry about manually connecting to a certain SSID.

DS Router app & SRM web interface

One of the best things about the AirPort Extreme is how easy it is to set up and manage using the AirPort Utility app. Synology, too, is known for its easy-to-use interfaces, and it doesn’t disappoint with its iOS app.

Simply entitled DS Router, the app allows users to manage router settings, monitor traffic, adjust parental controls, and see the status of all devices connected to the network.

SRM is the beautiful web interface that features much more fine-grained control over a sprawling suite features. You can use SRM from an iOS device, but for quick management, the DS Router app is the way to go while on mobile.

Parental controls

The RT2600ac can help parents manage what their children are allowed to view online, and is a major perk to owning this router. To set up content filtering, simply visit the Parental Control section of SRM to select a device on your network to filter. You can even use parental controls to schedule specific Internet access times.

NAS features w/ USB 3.0 port

Because it’s from Synology, it only makes sense that the RT2600ac contains built-in NAS features. Thanks to the router’s USB port and SD Card slot, users can connect an external drive or SD Card to transform the router into a basic NAS. Keep in mind, though, that USB 3.0 may cause interference with the 2.4 Ghz radio. Synology gives users the option of downgrading the port to USB 2.0 if desired.

Package Center

Synology’s Package Center on SRM is loosely synonymous with Apple’s App Store. There, you’ll find a handful of packages that can be used to enhance your experience and add new features to the router. And because the RT2600ac features external storage capabilities, users can download both router-specific and NAS-centric packages.

Smart WAN

It’s possible to use the LAN port closest to the WAN port as a secondary WAN port for failover and load balancing. Doing so will reduce the number of available LAN ports from four to three.

Advanced users can connect two outward-facing Internet interfaces, such as a cable modem and a DSL modem, and have them work together to help ensure stable connectivity at all times. When one interface goes down, the other will shoulder the Internet connectivity responsibility.

There is also load balancing + failover, which lets administrators distribute network traffic flow between two interfaces to ensure the best connection.

4G dongle compatibility

As if an extra WAN port for network interface failover wasn’t enough, the RT2600ac supports select 3G and 4G dongles for sharing cellular connectivity with the client devices connected to your network. This gives users a backup plan when the main Internet connection goes down.

Power and Wi-Fi button

This may sound like a simple feature, but I love the fact that the RT2600ac features a hardware power button for turning off the router, and a Wi-Fi button for disabling Wi-Fi. These are good features to have when you’re troubleshooting, and it makes it so that you don’t have to disconnect the power plug in order to turn it off, and you don’t have to venture into SRM to disable Wi-Fi.

Disable LEDs with custom LED schedule

QuickConnect and DDNS

QuickConnect is a Synology feature that affords easy communication with the router from outside of the network when using Synology apps. You can also use DDNS to access your router while away from your home network. Synology provides a free and easy-to-remember chúng tôi domain for those that wish to keep the process simple and straightforward.

2-step verification

The RT2600ac supports 2-step verification, which requires you to enter a code from a second device in order to log in to the router. I wholeheartedly recommend enabling 2-step verification, as it provides an extra layer of security.

Built-in VPN features

By installing the VPN Plus Server package, users can quickly use their RT2600ac to set up a VPN. Synology offers its own SSL VPN with corresponding iOS and Android apps for quick and easy VPN access from anywhere.

The RT2600ac also supports SSTP, OpenVPN, L2TP and PPTP. If you often use Wi-Fi hotspots while on the go, Synology’s VPN features can help keep you safe and secure while away from home.

Traffic Control

Want to limit the amount of bandwidth or guarantee a certain amount of bandwidth for a particular device? SRM’s built-in Traffic Control feature lets you individually manage device bandwidth, and even outright ban a device from your network.

Monitoring and reporting

If you’re looking to monitor bandwidth usage on your network, then you’ll be happy to know that the RT2600ac features awesome monitoring and logging tools built right in. For basic device bandwidth monitoring and logging, you can look at the Monitor page under the Traffic Control section of the Network Center in SRM. This allows for live bandwidth monitoring, but also lets you see traffic over the last 24 hours, last week, etc.

For more in-depth statistics, you can generate traffic reports over certain periods of time. These traffic reports are extremely in-depth, and provide overall bandwidth usage, as well as individual device bandwidth activity. The reports are attractive and easy to read, which means that you don’t have to know a lot about networking in order to understand them.

If you’re moving from a device like the AirPort Extreme, then I recommend considering the Synology RT2600ac. Not only should its wireless tech serve you well into the foreseeable future, but it’s also extremely easy to use thanks to SRM and the DS Router app.

Ease of use is something that’s normally not associated with networking hardware, which is one of the things that made the AirPort Extreme and its companion AirPort Utility app so attractive. But Synology’s SRM offers a remarkably good-looking and easy-to-use interface that’s way more powerful.

SRM balances ease of use with power-user features in a way that I’ve never seen on a router, and while there is a slight learning curve involved, it’s well worth it for all of the features that you get.

If there’s one knock to make against the RT2600ac, it’s that it is nowhere near as good-looking as the latest generation AirPort Extreme. The slanted black plastic chassis with four antennas emerging from the body isn’t going to win it any design awards.

But the looks of the router are easy to forgive once you experience the variety of features and performance offered by this router. Chances are it’ll probably be hidden away from eyesight anyway.

You can purchase the RT2600ac right now from Amazon or from B&H Photo Video.

What router are you currently using? If you’re an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule‎ owner, do you have plans to move on to different hardware?

Supporting Executive Function Skills By Asking Questions

Jumping on a giant trampoline as an adult is usually humbling and pretty awkward. Your trampoline muscles need some practice before they’re ready for full use. Our students are having a parallel experience; after over a year away from physical school, many of them may need support in developing their executive function or “studenting” skills for doing well in person. Executive function (EF) skills are brain-based management abilities that encompass a wide range of future skills like planning, organizing, self-regulation (including managing attention and emotions), learning, and memory.

These skills are also learned at home when children do things like household chores. Reinforcing executive function at school helps students’ brains understand the cueing system that activates the use of a particular skill. For example, a student needs to understand environmental cues in order to engage with self-regulation tools, and these cues will differ at home and at school.

Executive Function Skills Support Academic Success

Self-management skills are often the secret sauce of school success. Kids who soar at school are often those who have the most honed EF skill sets. Being an excellent writer, for example, isn’t enough. It’s important for students to demonstrate that they can manage time to write, chunk writing tasks into parts, manage attention to see an essay through, remember editing strategies, and more. Empowering students with these skills can boost academic performance, since grades and assessments rely on executive function as a baseline for demonstrating mastery.

Virtual school pushed students to learn self-management tools, like getting to class without auditory bell prompts and reducing distractions to support their focus. Now, students may need more time to develop the studenting skills required for in-person learning. Knowing how to identify and encourage developing studenting skills is a key component to our educational rebound.

Replace Directions With Thought-Provoking Questions

If you’ve ever heard one student coach another, you’ve probably realized that they’re parroting you. As teachers, we give lots of the same directions. Replacing these directions with mid- and then low-level supportive questions can help pass the onus of navigating the day to students, developing their future-skills executive functions.

For example, the directive “Please take out your book” could be replaced with mid-level support questions like “What do you need to be ready for reading?” or “What do you picture on your desk during this time?” A low-level support question could be “Do you need 45 or 65 seconds to get ready?” You could even a tap the desk, signaling that something needs to be out.

There’s no single right way to do this; the idea is that you’re planning and adjusting the levels of support you offer so that students are gradually assuming the responsibility (similar to gradual release strategy for academic skills and tasks).

Teach Students to Question and Coach Themselves

Whenever I design a lesson, I hear the voice of my mentor teacher coaching me to consider, “What’s the biggest takeaway you want every student to learn?” It’s an automatic audio track that plays whenever I’m planning a lesson. Like coaches and mentor teachers, classroom teachers can coach students to prompt themselves with questions or reminders for repeating tasks.

For example, in planning a longer project or essay, a teacher can show students how to do the following:

Question what the steps will be, by either visualizing or noting each “scene” as a step

Consider what materials are needed

Identify when to do each step

Offer tips for how to remember what to do

Students who need deeper support can have a written list of these questions to access in times of planning. The idea is to create a format to make the student invisible and thinking skills visible. In this way, teachers can augment students’ developing executive function skills.

Use 6 Problem-Solving ‘Magic’ Questions

There are some great go-to questions for teachers who want to help develop learners’ studenting skills but aren’t yet automatic in their questioning techniques. These magic questions include:

What do you notice?

What parts do you understand?

What do you think you might need right now?

How can you tell?

Where could you look for that information?

How will you remember to use that strategy or take that action?

When teachers ask these questions regularly, students get used to hearing them, and they can be applied automatically as students solve problems throughout their day. Teachers can also reply with these questions when students ask things like “Where is that assignment?” or “What do I need to do?” Think of how many times the students’ questions for us are related to processing the task, rather than the task or its content. What a gift for students to be able to tackle that type of thinking on their own.

The Good News for Teachers

This isn’t one more thing on your ever-growing list. These skills can be supported and extended by making small shifts, not additions, to your instruction. Replacing directions with questions can help increase students’ awareness of patterns and routines, releasing the onus of self-management to the students. Coaching students to notice the executive function demands of assignments can empower them to independently seek strategies when approaching their work.

If all else fails, you can lean on those function magic questions, which are sure to get students’ brain “muscles” flexing. Empowering our kids with multiple tools for studenting will reduce their barriers to growth and smooth out some of the bumps of getting through the school day, for students and teachers.

How To Get Google Assistant Without Rooting On Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Although Google’s newly updated Assistant isn’t officially available on many older Android devices, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. There are actually two different methods available you can use to install Google assistant on Android devices running 5.0 Lollipop. Both of which this guide will cover in detail.

The Easiest Way to Transfer Files From Computer to Android Over WiFi.

The newly updated Google Assistant is now smarter, more personal and works with tons more apps and linked devices. As amazing as it is though, it’s unfortunately not available on all Android devices. Officially you can only get your hands on the new Google Assistant if you are running Android 6.0 or newer. Unofficially though, it’s still possible to download and use on Android devices running Android 5.0. The best part is that you won’t even need to root your device to get it.

Get Google Assistant for Android 5.0 Using an APK File. (Option 1)

Note: If you get stuck or would like more information on APK file installation, you can check out the full guide here.

Now that you have the Google Assistant APK file installed on your Android device, you will need to enable it so the old Google Now system is replaced. To do this, open the Google Assistant app and switch to the Your Stuff tab.

On this page, tap Add Reminder, then Get Started to help Google Assistant recognize your voice. In order to finalize setup, you’ll need to say “OK Google” three or more times, simply follow the prompts given by your device until the process is complete.

The final step is to long press your phone’s home button or to swipe upward from it, depending on your phone make and model obviously. When the assistant opens, tap ‘Always’ when asked to set Google Assistant as the default app. That’s it, the app is set up and ready to use.

Get Google Assistant for Android 5.0 Using Nova Launcher. (Option 2)

First, install your launcher and set it as the default for your device. Once you have it set as default, tap and hold an empty space on your screen, then select Widgets. Next, tap and hold on the Activities Widget and place it on your home screen. You’ll then need to choose an activity from the list, so scroll down and tap Google App, this will open more options. From this list of options, select the Google Assistant option with the following description:

This option will add a Google Assistant icon to your home screen. After some configuration options, Google Assitant will be ready to use on your Android 5.0 Device.

How To Fix Tinyumbrella V9.3.4 Crashing On Launch

Many jailbreakers will be familiar with the program TinyUmbrella, which has traditionally been one of the best ways to save SHSH blobs for their iOS devices onto their Macs for safekeeping. What SHSH blobs are, their function, and how to save them is outside the scope of this article, (I will put something together soon on this), but suffice to say that saving these blobs is of some importance to many jailbreakers and that TinyUmbrella has been the go-to application for doing so for a long while.

Upon launching v9.3.4 of the application it momentarily begins loading, but then aborts with the following dialogue:

However, thanks to a fix put together by Twitter user @2Klasic, all is not lost! Some simple file substitutions should be enough to get the program working again and below are the instructions for the fix. I have included steps covering installation of the program for those who do not already have it, or who deleted it after realising it would not launch. If you already have it installed you can skip to step 5 of the process.

Fixing the application

1) Download TinyUmbrella 9.3.4 from Semaphore’s site. I recommend the version in the sidebar entitled “OSX Installer Bundled JRE” as it simplifies the process for those who may not have the Java Runtime Environment which the program requires.

4) Attempt to launch TinyUmbrella from your Applications folder, and note the crash. This step also creates a folder which we will be replacing later, which is not otherwise there.

5) Download and unzip “TU”, which contains the files required for the fix.

6) At this point we need to make visible some files which are hidden by default, so launch Terminal from /Applications/Utilities or via Spotlight.

7) In Terminal, issue the following command and hit the “Enter” key:

defaults write AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder

As you can see from the above picture, after issuing the command hidden folders have become visible, including one inside the downloaded folder.

8) With the “TU Fix” folder which you unzipped earlier open, open another Finder window showing your home User folder (the one containing your “Movies”, “Pictures”, “Documents”, and so on).

9) Locate the greyed-out folder entitled “.tu” in your “User” folder, look inside it for the “.cache” folder, and delete it.

10) Copy the “.cache” folder from inside the downloaded “TU Fix” folder, and paste it into the /Users/Username/.tu folder, which you deleted the original “.cache” folder from in step 9.

11) Return to Terminal and issue the following command to re-hide your hidden folders:

defaults write AppleShowAllFiles -boolean false ; killall Finder

Note how the hidden folders which we edited have disappeared again in the above screenshot after issuing the Terminal command.

12) Launch TinyUmbrella again and you should be right as rain.

For those who hope that tools will one day be released for their devices allowing them to downgrade to firmware versions of their choosing, keeping an unbroken chain of blobs for all iOS versions is the name of the game. Because of this, keeping tools like TinyUmbrella in a working condition ready to save blobs within the signing windows is essential.

Given the relatively minor inconvenience involved in periodically saving your blobs, it seems worth it in exchange for the future possibility of running whichever firmware you please on your device. I’ll be writing another tutorial soon on how to use my favoured tool for saving blobs called (appropriately) “savethemblobs”, but for many TinyUmbrella is just what they need. If you’re one of those people, this guide should help you get back on track.

Did this method work for you? Do you still bother to save your blobs and what tool do you use? Let me know below.

50 Best Stable Diffusion Clothes Prompts To Design Awesome Characters

From video games to movies, AI-generated images provide designers with an unprecedented level of control and detail when creating characters. With the introduction of stable diffusion clothes (SDC) prompts, designers, can now use a set of criteria to generate AI images with unique features and distinctive looks.

In this article, we’ll explore the best stable diffusion AI image clothes prompts to design awesome characters, and how they can help bring your digital content to life.

But what is stable diffusion?

Unlike other deep learning vision models, Stable Diffusion enables AI to create multiple images based on a single description. This helps to ensure that all images generated are consistent, accurate, and realistic.

Stable Diffusion uses a core convolutional neural network, known as a generative query network, to generate images from textual descriptions.

The model is trained using a multi-objective function, such as a combination of pixel-wise losses and semantic-level losses, to ensure that the generated images are of high quality.

Stable diffusion is a very useful tool for artists and designers who want to make beautiful AI art.

Stable diffusion can save you time and effort during the design process and let you focus on other parts of your art, like how your characters look, how the light hits them, and what’s in the background.

One of the best things about stable diffusion is that it lets you give your characters a lot of different clothing options, such as complex patterns, intricate designs, and even textures.

Let’s now take a look at the 50 most awesome Stable Diffusion prompts that you can type on the module and create amazing clothes for your characters.
