The Google Photos web app provides 15 GB of free storage space for your favorite photographs and images. With this app, you can edit photographs and set up slideshow albums for them.
Google Photos includes two alternative upload options for photos. And this can confuse some people.
You can select an Original or High Quality setting for uploading images.

How to backup your old photos and videos?

Open the Google Photos App.
Tap on Change settings.

Find Photos fast:
After opening the Google Photos app, you can see all the photos and videos on your device.
To find your recent pictures:

Microsoft Vs. Apple Vs. Google: Differing Visions
At the Wall Street Journal’s “D: All Things Digital Conference” Steve Jobs and Bill Gates will be on stage for what may be the last time.Increasingly both are being upstaged by a couple of kids out of Stanford who, much like their predecessors did a couple of decades ago, had a vision and executed on it sharply, and appear to be increasingly more relevant to us on a day-to-day basis as a result.Surrounding Google is Open Source, a movement that Microsoft is attempting to embrace, Apple is running away from, and Google is using very profitably.
Let’s take a look at the three companies and weave in the Open Source movement this week.
Apple: It’s all about Jobs

AppleTV has not been a hit (to be fair nothing else in that category including Microsoft’s offerings have either) and Apple is now betting on the iPhone.
With Leopard, slated to be Apple’s run at the Enterprise, we may see this same problem in spades. The Enterprise market is very mature and Apple is no longer considered an Enterprise class chúng tôi make a similar move a few decades earlier Microsoft partnered with IBM, and a decade ago Palm did as well, even more recently RIM partnered with a number of enterprise firms (these partnerships did not go well) to help them penetrate this space.

Therefore it simply may not matter what Leopard is, without the critical surrounding Enterprise Partners and disclosures it will not meet IT’s need.
Apple’s strength, a sharp focus on product, is also its weakness because it prevents the kind of collaboration needed to grow outside of its niche and rise to what otherwise would be its potential.
Microsoft: Strong Vision, Bad Focus
Microsoft is in many ways the nearly polar opposite of Apple. Early on Bill Gates drove the company to be a part of as many things as possible. The company became what it is, for good and ill, largely as a result of an IBM partnership which both got them into the enterprise and infected them with practices that had crippled their predecessor.
This showcases one of the problems with learning from someone chúng tôi don’t often know which part of the lesson should be retained and which part discarded so that you avoid the mistakes the teacher is currently chúng tôi Microsoft’s case it was the IBM practice of avoiding accountability and institutionalizing management that turned out to be the communicable disease that should have been, but was not avoided.

Microsoft is clearly an enterprise vendor but, like IBM before them, the question is “are they looking ahead to even more influence or back at greatness that will never again be achieved?”In many ways Microsoft is at a turning point, trying to remain relevant and even important in a world that increasingly seems focused on something other than software.
Microsoft has tried to emulate to some degree companies like Sony with the Xbox and Apple with the Zune. But they learned that other more focused companies like Nintendo with the Wii and SanDisk with the Sensa did it better with vastly less resources.
While Microsoft fully understands what it takes to move in areas where Apple cannot, in many ways it is still tied to the problems that resulted from its first deep contact with IBM. And unless it can cure itself of this IBM-sourced illness Microsoft’s long-term future won’t look anything like its astounding past.
It is attempting to do just that with its own movement to Open Source and major restructuring in a number of divisions.Recently I saw a product that gave me hope that Microsoft was, in fact, getting better.Unlike so many offerings from Microsoft of late it felt complete, well designed, solidly executed.I can’t talk about the product yet, because it is unannounced, but if it is an indicator of things to come (and not just an isolated case) the company may be getting chúng tôi their sake I hope so because they don’t have a lot of time, and their partners are still dependent to some degree on Microsoft.
Google: The New Superstar
It must be difficult for both Apple and Microsoft’s CEO to look at Google and remember what it was like when they were the stars of chúng tôi like an aging award-winning actress who now plays only supporting roles, both Apple and Microsoft’s stars have paled under the brilliance of young Google’s rising star.
Google, so far, has avoided both the problems associated with Apple’s and Microsoft’s models. By initially not focusing on large business they didn’t have to form a deep partnership nor emulate a predecessor and have created a work environment envied by Apple and Microsoft employees chúng tôi addition, they quickly realized (and maybe always did) that, to make a difference, it wasn’t about a single product but about control of the revenue stream.
This was more of a blend of Microsoft’s wanting to be in everything and Apple’s “do a few things well” product strategy.Google has a limited offering but it touches the majority of people who search on the web and increasingly Google gets a piece of the related action.
Google has also resisted the temptation to focus on Microsoft. This kind of focus nearly killed Sun and was core to Netscape, Google’s direct predecessor, making a series of terminal mistakes.Instead Google focused like a laser on customers and in locking down their revenue stream with a strategy that could, if they aren’t blocked by anti-trust government response, lead them to the kind of dominance historically enjoyed by IBM, and currently still enjoyed by Microsoft.
While they have yet to make much of a mark with their secondary software products, like Google Apps, it is their nearly complete rejection of the current technology market and its offerings and their ability to milk the Open Source eco system that may go down in history as a best practice.
However, they have yet to really face a trial by fire. And while they have, so far, succeeded at being unconventional there are indications that they may be too attached to doing everything different than is chúng tôi the excessive wealth that their founders have gained over a very short period of time may, itself, be becoming a distraction and creating internal strife in the company.
That’s only a possible future and there is nothing to say this future has been set. Still it would be wise to look for the symptoms: increasing employee turnover, severe product failures, employee lawsuits, any signs of employee violence, or any sudden pull back in entitlements or employee benefits – all would be likely early indicators of problems. Until then, Google (despite some doubts) actually appears to be in good shape.
Comparing the Visions: New vs. Old
Apple is nearly the opposite, in that you buy a product and with it you get low cost or free features and services.iTunes is one of the services and iLife is one of the chúng tôi mirrors in many ways how we buy most things except razors and cell phones.Apple’s future is one based on having at least one successful flagship offering or line, like the iPod, but the iPhone’s future is uncertain while the eventual drop of the iPod from star status is not. Also uncertain is Apple’s ability to sell into the enterprise, because with that class of buyer, it isn’t the product but the relationship that counts. Apple is historically really bad at relationships.Apple is showing signs of being on a bubble and bubbles have a tendency to pop; on the other hand, Apple is really good at this bubble thing – and the iPod has already been a success longer than most have thought any product in this class could be.
Microsoft is a company in transition.Microsoft is an eco system company and one that sells to both consumer and enterprise customers today.Highly diverse and with an increasing history of execution issues on point products, but successes in establishing (and owning) standards, the company is struggling to adjust to a changed world and the changes being made to address it.
It stopped chasing IBM some time ago yet is still burdened with IBM-like practices and an internal environment which may be out of date when compared to chúng tôi too often seems to be trying to chase product companies and forgetting that licensing and partners are what made it great. Still, it is trying to adopt but the one guy who has previously spearheaded its adaptation, Bill Gates, is leaving. In short, unlike its predecessors, it is trying to evolve and is finding evolution to be a very painful process, but likely preferable to the alternative of obsolescence.
Overall Google’s issues are in front of them and they don’t need the enterprise to be successful; they are growing incredibly fast. This, in and of itself, is a big risk but the company appears to be in the best shape today even though they aren’t a viable enterprise choice. That actually may not matter, and recall that Netscape largely died because they focused on the Enterprise rather than their existing customers and market.
Apple seems to focus excessively on Microsoft, and Microsoft on Google and Apple. It is interesting to note that the seeming most successful of the three is only focused on its customers and market expansion. That’s actually old school Microsoft, and to use a Star Wars phrase, maybe the student has now become the master.
To Improve Search Quality, Google Must Penalize Sources Of Link Pollution
While some people propose algorithmic adjustments to counter the effects of link pollution, I think it’s time to put a simpler and more obvious solution on the table: force website owners to take responsibility for allowing this pollution in the first place.
To be blunt, link pollution is often caused by poor and/or incompetent website management.
When we find links that were placed by hackers, we’re reminded that password security is often the culprit. A 2010 password study shows that nearly 50% of Internet users have easily compromised passwords, and it’s a safe bet that many FTP passwords, WordPress passwords, etc. fall into the “easily compromised” category. How else could all these hacked links be explained?
1. Google should only index sites registered with Webmaster Tools. Assuming that all website owners valued Google search traffic, Webmaster Tools registration would be nearly universal. This would give Google a direct connection to website managers.
2. Mandate regular interaction. If Google were to send website managers a monthly “suspicious link report” – and then require the website manager to acknowledge receipt of this report – they would encourage website owners to actively manage the security and quality of their website.
3. Alert website managers to obvious spam links. While it is impossible for Google to detect every instance of link spam, there are certain occasions when a site has obviously been spammed. In these instances, Google should email the website manager immediately and request that the site be fixed ASAP.
4. De-index sites that fail to acknowledge alerts. Once Google has contact information for each and every website owner, there’s no excuse for failing to respond to Google spam link alerts in a timely manner. If a website manager fails to remedy a warning within a certain time frame, the site should be de-indexed for a period of days or weeks. Repeat offenders should be de-indexed for longer and longer periods until they either a) fix the problems or b) give up and go away.
While my plan to de-index non-conforming websites might sound draconian, imagine the benefits:
Webmasters would close security gaps, reduce the incentive for hackers to attack websites, and subsequently make all of our sites a little safer.
Blogs and forums would improve their moderation systems.
A reduction in link spam would probably make paid links easier to detect.
The rewards for ethical link-building would become even greater.
Social sites like Twitter might do more to reduce incredible amount of spam generated on their platforms.
Most importantly, Google would provide consumers with a better search experience.
To those who would argue against my plan on the idea that universal webmaster registration would make Google too powerful, I would submit that the current “unknown webmaster” free-for-all has no basis in reality. If we can’t drive a car without a driver’s license, why should we expect Google (or any other search engine) to send visitors to our website if we don’t identify ourselves to them first?
Besides, it’s not as if participation in my plan is compulsory. If a website owner doesn’t want to register with Google, they don’t have to…they just won’t be listed in Google search results.
To be clear, I’m not picking on Google. Google’s results are only as good as the websites they index. If tens of thousands of poorly managed websites are compromised with spammy links, it’s unreasonable to expect any search engine to overcome this problem algorithmically. My plan is focused on Google because of their prominence in the marketplace, but Bing could just as easily take action. Perhaps Google and Bing could even collaborate.
Whatever the solution, it’s clear that the current system has a fundamental flaw: there is no penalty levied against websites that are a source of link pollution. While our search environment is resilient enough to deal with some link pollution, regulation is the only way to prevent long-term damage.
Google Apps Vs. Office 365 Vs. Zoho Docs: Cloud
Google Apps has a comprehensive suite of tools, and powerful real-time sharing and collaboration features. But it doesn’t work well with Microsoft Office file formats–a huge handicap for a productivity suite.
Now that Microsoft has launched Office 365, it is officially “game on” for online office productivity suites. Microsoft may enjoy a near-monopoly in the desktop office suite market, but online it faces established rivals in the form of Google Apps and Zoho Docs.
Ultimately, the choice of which suite is best is a subjective determination that involves other factors such as which mobile platform or Web browser you use. Based on our scoring, though, Office 365 is the best overall value, with Google Apps running a close second.
Office ApplicationsIf you’re familiar with Office 2007 or Office 2010, you’ll probably feel most comfortable working in Office 365. The Web incarnations of the Office apps have stripped-down versions of their respective Ribbons, but Office 365 still has the same look and feel overall, and the core features are present.
By comparison, Google Apps’ menu bars and features seem austere. People who prefer the old-school text-based menu bar may appreciate the Google Apps interface, but Google Apps is more limited in what it allows you to do, both in formatting and in functionality.
Winner: Office 365
Files and StorageZoho comes with a meager 1GB of online file storage; you can purchase an additional 5GB for $3 per user per month. The space allocated for Zoho email is separate from the data storage and is either 10GB or 15GB, depending on the service plan. Zoho limits you to 10MB file attachments on email, which could become an issue if you’re planning to use a document with lots of images, for example.
Google Apps offers the same 1GB of data storage but beats Zoho on email storage, allowing up to 25GB for email, and file attachments as large as 25MB. On top of that, Google recently partnered with chúng tôi to integrate Google Docs with Box.net’s storage. chúng tôi provides 5GB of data storage for free, so the combination of Google Apps and chúng tôi delivers a possible 6GB of space.
Winner: Office 365
Sharing and CollaborationWith SharePoint Workspace, you can sync data from Office 365 SharePoint Online for offline access. Neither Google Apps nor Zoho Docs has a native tool, but with those two you could use something like chúng tôi or Dropbox to sync data for offline access. Of course, without access to the online productivity tools themselves, offline access to the data may not be worth much.
Office 365 provides some real-time collaboration capabilities in Excel and OneNote, but not in Word and PowerPoint. Microsoft recently rolled out a coauthoring function for the Word Web App, but it works only when you’re sharing files from the company’s Windows Live SkyDrive file storage service, and when you’re using the Word Web App; it doesn’t work with Office 365.
However, Office 365 handily compensates for the lack of native collaboration within documents by making it easy to set up an online whiteboard session using its Lync Online service. With Lync Online, you can share and collaborate in real time on any item on your desktop. External contacts can join online meetings via the Lync client application, or through a Web-based client.
Winner: Google Apps It’s a close call between Zoho and Google, but Google wins out since it has a little more polish than the rival platform does. Microsoft, meanwhile, has work to do to catch up with the online-suite veterans.

How To Turn Off Facial Recognition In Google Photos.
If you have or plan on having a Google Photos account and want to use it for all your photographic storage needs, you’ll probably want to know a little bit more about the built-in and enabled by default Facial Recognition system. Google Photos Facial Recognition system is designed to sort photos into better groups based on the faces found in images. However, this feature can seem a little creepy so follow along as we show you how to disable it.

For a long, long time Google Photos has had unlimited storage for photos stored in standard resolution, along with 15gb’s free of premium storage space. Recently, however, this feature was canned with Google reconsidering their super-generous offer to store unlimited content. Instead, the offer has been capped at 15GB of free storage, with the next best option of 100GB costing around $24USD a year.
If you have decided to or are currently deciding to continue on with Google Photos or are planning on signing up for an account, you’ll want to know a little bit more about Google Photos built-in Facial Recognition system (on by default) which aims to use artificial intelligence to better sort your photos into categories/groups based on who is in images uploaded to the service.
As expected, a lot of people have found this feature to be intrusive and a little creepy, which is why we’ve decided to create a guide on disabling it. To disable Google Photos Recognition you can do the following:
Open Google Photos, and sign in to your account.
Under Group Similar Faces disable Face Grouping.
Confirm the pop-up request with Turn off.

To begin, open Google Photos in your browser and sign in to your Google Photos account.
