New language in the third draft of the GNU General Public License (define), GPL v3, has the potential to reach beyond big Linux vendors with its proposed licensing rules that govern how most open source software is deployed and modified.
Some of the terms in the just-released draft also have the potential to adjust software practices at search engine giant Google, which uses open source widely within its own infrastructure. But Google manager of Open Source Programs, Chris DiBona, told chúng tôi he doesn’t see a problem with the draft license.
DiBona noted two points in the latest version. One is a clause that said “mere interaction with a user through a computer network, with no transfer of a copy, is not conveying,” in a reference to how license terms are conveyed.

At that point, the code could be governed by Affero GPL, rather than the latest version of the GPL v3. But the latest GPL draft said if conveyance occurs, then, according to the right of the GPL, the developer would need to provide full source code for the GPL’ed application.
The new clauses won’t change Google’s practices. “We have the ability to tag incoming open source code as being allowed or not allowed in Web performance situations,” DiBona said. “This means we don’t need to worry too much about these kinds of restrictions [because] we can track them.”
The new GPL draft also does not provide compatibility for Apache 2.0 licenses projects, which Simon Phipps, Chief Open Source Officer for Sun Microsystems, lamented. On the other hand, Phipps noted, the prior draft, GPL v2, isn’t compatible with the Apache license either and developers are living with that.
“I think it’s a shame that the free software community has been unable to come up with mechanisms that allow genuinely free software to be mixed by genuine free software developers,” Phipps told chúng tôi “I think it’s unfortunate that [this] has become the case. “If the final version of the GPL3 does potentially impact the agreement we have with Microsoft, we’ll address that with Microsoft.”

Before we dive into these tips, let’s take a look at what automation is in the sense of Google Ads and how it can benefit you.What Is Automation?
In the simplest sense, automation can be used in many ways within Google Ads. You can use automation to:
Run A/B tests or ad variations.
Execute bidding changes based on your criteria.
To summarize, automation can help you simplify account management and scale your efforts.

Are you convinced yet to try automation? If not, hopefully, these three ways to automate will help change your mind!1. Utilize Google’s Built-In Basic Automated Rules
This one is the most obvious of the three but bears repeating.
Google Ads is constantly evolving its interface and the automation tools available to PPC professionals.
One of the first examples you can use automation for is to create A/B tests, or “Experiments” in the Google Ads interface.
I’ll be the first to admit that when Google first introduced Experiments, they were a pain to set up. The process was so confusing that many times my tests failed because the set-up was wrong!
Fortunately for us, Google has simplified how to test and has expanded what types of elements you can test.
In this example, we’ll choose the “Optimize Text Ads” feature.
After you choose which campaigns to test, then you create ad variations on either:
Find and replace text for Headlines and/or Descriptions.
Update text to add, remove, or pin Headlines and/or Descriptions.
Update Final URLs, Display path, or Final Mobile URL.
Lastly, you set your variation details. This includes choosing a timeframe of how long to run an experiment, as well as the Experiment split.
If you’re looking for a true A/B test, I recommend keeping the split at 50%. Make sure to choose whatever is right for your individual testing requirements.Automated Rules
Automated rules are the most underrated feature of Google Ads, in my opinion. There are so many things you can automate with simple rules!
A few examples of tasks you can automate:
Set a rule that runs daily for keywords that are below the first-page bid. A word of caution: If you’re limited by budget, make sure to set a maximum CPC threshold so Google doesn’t go crazy with your bids.
Set a rule that runs weekly (or monthly, depending on your volume and spend) for keywords that have a higher CPA than your typical threshold. You can either choose to pause those keywords or have Google send you a list of those keywords.Bidding Strategies
Google has sophisticated (and simplified) its suite of automated bidding strategies.
Chances are that no matter your goal(s), Google has an automated bidding strategy that is aligned with your goals.
Some of the most popular bidding strategies include:
Google has recently simplified the number of bidding strategies available.
They used to have Target ROAS and Target CPA strategies but have combined that with the “Maximize Conversion Value” and “Maximize Conversions” strategies, respectively.
You can set your Target ROAS or CPA goals within those two bidding strategies mentioned.
Remember, bidding strategies are set at the campaign level. This is important when structuring a PPC account and coinciding campaigns.
Make sure to group ad groups and keywords into campaigns that have a common goal. Segmentation + automation is a great way to succeed.Microsoft Ads
It is worth noting that a lot of these automation tools for Google Ads are also available in Microsoft Ads.

Scripts are another way to easily automate your accounts without knowing how to code.
In the past, the word “script” was something many PPCers shied away from because of the implication of coding.
While the use of scripts technically uses code, the good news is that you don’t have to know how to code.
Scripts are typically pre-coded where you are just required to input certain parameters in order for the script to run.
There are many different resources for scripts you can use to your benefit. Some of the top scripts available are for:
Bid and Budget Management.
Search query N-Gram performance.
Landing page content checker.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg for script contents. The two resources I go to for scripts are Brainlabs and Optmyzr.
With Brainlabs, they provide scripts for you to input directly into your Google Ads account. Currently, there are 49 scripts available to choose from.
It’s important to note that you need to authorize scripts to make changes on a user’s behalf. You will be prompted in Google Ads.
In this example, I’ve copied and pasted the “Low-Quality Alert Score” script into Google Ads from Brainlabs.
They prompt you ahead of time with the inputs you need to change for the script to successfully run.
This script has me change:
Email address (so it sends to me when run).
Quality Score threshold (to send me keywords below a certain quality score I choose).
Label Keywords to “true” (if you want low QS keywords labeled for easy identification).
Pause Keywords to “true” (if you want the script to pause keywords that hit below your chosen threshold).
There are various priced options out there, so no matter your budget, you’ll likely be able to find a script you can benefit from and stay within your budget.3. Utilize Third-Party Software Tools For Advanced Automation
Optmyzr is a great tool if you want a hands-off experience when it comes to using scripts.
Scripts are maintained and updated by the company. They also have dozens of Google Ads scripts to choose from.
Optmyzr does have a free 14-day trial so you can experience it before committing to a plan.
Adalysis is another great tool if you’re looking for in-depth ad testing capabilities and insights.
Similar to Optmyzr, Adalysis also has a 14-day free trial before committing.

As a PPC professional, your job is not at risk of going away.
If anything, using automation to manage and scale your accounts, allows you to be more strategic.
You’ll spend less time focusing on the time-consuming tasks, and more time analyzing the data coming in.
This change in how you spend your day-to-day in PPC can ultimately catapult your career success.
You’ll have the knowledge of how to use automation, coupled with your critical thinking skills, making you a better marketer.
The combination of automation + human is the ultimate key to success.
With any automation tool, it is extremely important that you understand the “why” behind the automation tasks. Automation can only go so far based on the inputs you give the systems to learn.

Measure is an augmented reality app from Google which allows you to carry out quick everyday measurements around the house or office, similar to a tape measure. While the measurement is not as accurate as the ones you will get with a physical tape measure, it is quite good and comes in really handy in situations when you don’t have a tape measure on hand or just need an approximated value.

Advertisers can now use the Google Ads mobile app to set custom notifications about things that are important to them.
In this example provided by Google you can see how the app has been set to send a notification when conversion volume goes up by more than 10%.
To set a custom notification, first go to the Settings page and opt in to notifications if you haven’t already.
Then tap on custom notifications to set up your own alerts. These can be adjusted at any time.Performance Insights

The notification will explain why the change occurred, and Google Ads may offer a recommendation to help resolve the issues.

This update follows a three month gap of no updates to the Google Ads app. Google rarely lets any of its apps go longer than a month without at least a minor update, but that has not been the case lately.

Updates to Google’s apps have started to roll out over the past several days, but many are still three months out of date.
At the time of this writing apps like Google Chrome, Google Drive, Google Maps, Google Photos, and others are waiting for updates.
Apple now requires app developers to self-report on the data it collects from users and how the data is being used.
The information provided by developers is used to create a privacy “nutrition label” that users can review before downloading an app.

Given that Google stopped updating its apps for several months after Apple introduced these mandatory labels, some think the company is trying to skirt Apple’s rules. Again, that’s purely speculation.
Google has recently gone on record saying it has no plans to develop alternative methods of tracking users.
If Google’s recent activity is anything to go by, more of its outdated apps may receive updates in the coming days or weeks.

Stani Kulechov, the founder and CEO of Aave, a Decentralized Finance (DeFi) lending and borrowing protocol, recently disclosed a new course for the protocol.
He announced on his Twitter page that the team had filed a proposal that would see the deployment of Aave v3 on zkSync 2.0. The deployment would initially take place on the testnet before being transferred to the mainnet according to the proposal.What is zkSync 2.0, and how does Aave Fit in?
A zero-knowledge rollup, or zkSync 2.0, is a type of scaling solution for Ethereum that seeks to lower Ethereum’s high fees and boost the network’s transaction capacity.
Aave’s position as the top liquidity market and thought leader, in the opinion of the Aave team, would be strengthened by deploying on zkSync early.
Having the protocol available on a ZK rollup that is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) also adds further value to the protocol.
Additionally, because Aave can interface with hundreds of projects, deploying on zkSync could aid Aave’s ability to attract new users and boost user activity. When compared to Ethereum, this can be done for less cost without sacrificing security.Aave v3’s TVL and active addresses show a pattern
According to DefiLlama, a peek at Aave’s Total Value Locked revealed that the protocol had more than $1 billion locked on it as of the time of this writing.
A closer look at the graph showed that the TVL had witnessed a decline from its all-time high. It had a TVL of more than $1.6 billion around August, according to the graph.
Over the previous 30 days, AAVE had over 10,000 active addresses, according to the active addresses metric. A decrease in the number of active addresses began around August, according to the data.

The support was visible between $77.2 and $64.4, and there were obvious signs that it had been put to the test, but it held.
Additionally, the short Moving Average (yellow line) was seen also acting as support for AAVE and was also seen below the present price movement.
The long Moving Average (blue line), which was visible above the price movements, essentially served as the asset’s initial resistance level. A break of this initial resistance could trigger a further rally, after testing the support level again.
In a positive development for AAVE, a trading app, Robinhood added the asset to its platform, making the token available to a wider range of interested traders.
This was contained in a post by Robinhood. This move could boost the price of the asset as more trade volume could be witnessed as a result.

It’s that time again, PC gamers. Razer is releasing another Basilisk. This version, the Razer Basilisk V3, is the sixth version of the company’s beloved first-person shooter mouse since the original model was released in 2023. It seems like Razer’s never happier than when it’s playing with this mouse series: There have been high-end and budget versions, wired and wireless revisions, and a generational refresh.
In fairness, I generally feel the same way. The Basilisk is one of my favorite mouse designs: It’s comfortable, flashy, and offers a lot of useful buttons. Still, I don’t feel the need to try on every new fit. That may explain why Razer’s decided to call its newest version the “Basilisk V3” less than two years after releasing the “V2” in early 2023. The more versions you release, the harder it becomes to get people excited about new upgrades.
Despite the name, though, Razer Basilisk V3 doesn’t exactly feel like a complete overhaul. It has a handful of new features, including a scroll-wheel that can automatically switch from graduated turning to free-spinning, and a customizable RGB rim around its base. Meanwhile, it also streamlines the design in ways that allowed Razer to lower its price. Without any notable innovation, the Basilisk V3 isn’t going to convince anyone to move on from their old mouse, but it also maintains the Basilisk’s reputation as one of the most compelling mouse brands.What’s a “first-person shooter” mouse?
If you aren’t familiar with gaming mice, you may be surprised to hear that mice come in many flavors that extend beyond “gaming” and “productivity.” From its initial launch in 2023, the Basilisk was designed as a first-person shooter mouse. (“FPS mouse” for short).
In practice, I’ve found that the thumb wing, not the sniper button, is the FPS’ mouse’s legacy. Over the years I’ve tested many gaming mice that have adopted the thumb rest without the button. I wouldn’t call it an FPS mouse without both components, though. Genre-specific mice aren’t as popular as they once were, but this form factor, and the Basilisk specifically, have endured.Razer Basilisk V3: Back to Basilisks
For gaming mouse lovers, the Razer Basilisk is a fairly well-known quantity. This one’s wired 11-button right-handed mouse with a “thumb wing” support that keeps your digit from dragging on your mousepad even if you don’t grab it tight. It measures 2.97 x 5.19 x 1.56 inches (WDH), slightly larger than the 2023 Basilisk Ultimate, and weighs 3.67 ounces, which is notably heavier than the Basilisk V2.
Back to the buttons: On the left side of the mouse, you have the usual “back” and “forward” side buttons and the so-called “sniper” button at the front, waiting for the tip of your thumb. Last but not least, if you flip the mouse over, there’s a button on the underside of the mouse for switching among the Basilisk V3’s five onboard profiles. Putting the profile swap button underneath the mouse is an esports-friendly choice: Competitive players prefer not to have the ability to accidentally reset all their buttons mid-match.
And I’m freeeeeee… Free-wheelin’
The Razer Basilisk’s V3’s new features are, by-and-large, minor upgrades. The most significant of them is a redesigned scroll wheel that allows for “notched” scrolling with tactile feedback and a frictionless free scroll. You can change between them using one of the top mouse buttons, but the mouse can also do it for you through“smart-reel,” a software-enabled feature that will automatically switch between the two modes depending on how far you scroll. While it isn’t a game-changer, I have to admit it’s very cool to feel the scroll wheel change modes. There’s a very distinct “magnetizing” sensation you can feel when the mouse tightens from free to tactile scrolling.

The second really substantial addition to the Razer Basilisk V3 is a heaping helping of Razer’s signature RGB lighting. In addition to the usual piping on the scroll wheel and light-up logo in the palm, the Basilisk V3 has an RGB light that goes all the way around the base of the mouse, which creates a reflective underglow effect on your mousepad or whatever surface you’ve got it on. While it is a single lighting element, the rim is customizable in nine places, so there’s a lot you can do if you like tinkering with RGB patterns.
Updating the sensor and mouse switches
Though it may be tough to detect the difference (even by reading the box), the Basilisk V3 features slightly upgraded mechanical components. It uses a new version of Razer’s premium Focus+ sensor, which upgrades the maximum DPI from 25,000 to 26,000. The new Basilisk also sports Razer’s “Gen 2” optical mouse switches, which have been in Razer mice released earlier this year, but not a Basilisk. In both cases, these changes bring the Basilisk up to speed with Razer’s other mouse lines, but don’t lead to any kind of meaningful upgrade.
Stock up, stock down
Out of all the changes in the Basilisk, the most meaningful may be the price. With the V3, Razer has lowered the base price of the Basilisk from $79.99 to $69.99. At a glance, that makes it easier to get one of the best gaming mice for less. On closer inspection, though, it’s hard to argue that you wouldn’t be better off skipping out on the relatively granular upgrades in the Basilisk V3 spending less on the now-dated Basilisk V2, which is currently down to $49.99 on Amazon. That, by the way, is why the Basilisk V3 exists. In a world where Amazon continually drops prices to meet demand, there’s good reason to keep creating new versions of gear, whether or not they actually push the envelope.Who should buy the Razer Basilisk V3?

I think everyone who’s confused about what mouse to buy should at least consider buying a Razer Basilisk.
