Suggested January 2024 How To Change The Default Search Engine On Your Android Phone

While most web browsers available today use Google as the default search engine, many users are seeking to switch to alternatives. There are plenty of worthy options to choose from, and on Android you can easily change the default search engine in your browser of choice. This article describes all the steps to make the switch yourself.

Change the Default Search Engine in Firefox for Android

If you use Firefox on your Android device, there’s a really easy way to ditch Google and perform your searches using another search engine.

Here’s how:

1. Launch Firefox on your mobile device.

2. Tap on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the display.

3. Select Settings.

4. At the top of the display, you’ll notice the Search option. Tap on it.

5. On the next screen, you should be able to see a list of search engines you can set as default on your device. For example, you can easily enable DuckDuckGo with a tap.

6. If your search engine is not listed, you can add it by tapping the “Add search engine” button.

7. Select Other and input the address of the search engine you want to use. Make sure you add /search?q=%s at the end. Once you’re done, the new option will be added to the list.

8. Return to your browser and perform a query by using the search bar at the top. Your new search engine will be showing you the results.

Change the Default Search Engine in Chrome for Android

Google is obviously the default search engine in Chrome, but even so, you still have the ability to change it, if you wish to.

1. Fire up the Chrome app on your Android device.

2. Tap on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the display.

3. Select Settings.

4. Go to Search Engine (at the very top).

5. Choose from the available list of search engines.

6. By default, there are only five options, including Google, Yahoo!, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia. Unfortunately, you can’t add other search engines to this predefined list like in Firefox. The solution could be to install the respective search engine’s independent app on your phone. But if you’re trying to save space, you may not be able to do so.

7. As soon as you tap on a search engine, it will become your default.

8. You can head back to Chrome’s main screen and see how your newly-set search engine is working. You are all set.

How to Get Rid of the Google Home Screen Widget

Google’s home screen widget is a given on the majority of Android devices these days. But unless you’re using Google’s own launcher on a Pixel device, you can get rid of this widget altogether or replace it with an alternative.

Before we begin, though, you should do one thing: decide which search engine you want to access directly from the home screen and install its own dedicated app for Android. For example, Bing, DuckDuckGo or Ecosia.

1. Let’s start by removing the Google search widget. Long-press on the bar and tap Remove.

2. To add a new widget, long-press on a blank space on the home screen.

3. You’ll see a menu appear at the bottom. From there, select Widgets.

4. Search for the widget pertaining to the app you previously installed. In our case, we’ve selected Bing.

4. Tap and hold the widget and drag it on the screen to position it. You can also resize it if you want.

5. Now you have quick access to your search engine of choice from your home screen.

How to Replace the Default Virtual Assistant on Your Android

Google Assistant rules supreme on most active Android devices, but if you’re craving some variety and want to switch to a different virtual assistant, you can set another default as the default. The alternate virtual assistant app needs to be installed on your device before you go any further.

1. Bring up Settings on your Android device.

2. Select “Apps & notifications.”

3. Tap on “Default apps.”

5. Tap on the “Assist app” option.

6. Select your preferred virtual assistant from the list.

7. Confirm your preference by tapping the OK button on the pop-up message that appears.

Depending on phone model, bringing up the default assistant on your device usually involves long-pressing on the home button on the navigation bar, swiping from the bottom left/right corner or using a hot phrase. Once you’ve switched to a different default virtual assistant, the routine you usually use to call on the assistant will summon your new choice.

How To Change Your Name On Roblox On Pc And Phone

Roblox is an online gaming platform and game creation system, created for gamers by gamers, ever-bustling with new users that develop and play each other’s games. A great majority of them don’t give much thought to their username when they’re signing up. Most of us don’t, much to our future dismay, until for one reason or another the old username has to go.

If you have to change your username and have a few dollars to spare, here’s how you can change your username on Roblox.

Related: Roblox Adopt Me Scams: What are They, and How to Avoid Them

Change username on Roblox

Changing your Roblox username on most platforms involves similar steps. Here’s how they go:

Open the Roblox home page in a browser, log-in, and tap on the gear icon at the top-right of the game window.

And just like that, your username will have changed. You may have to refresh the page if the changes don’t take effect instantly.

On Android and iPhone

Open the Roblox app on your Android or iPhone. Since the app for both platforms is exactly the same, including the positioning of its setting menus, we shall refer to the Android screenshots for demonstrative purposes.

Tap on the three-dot menu at the bottom right of the screen.

Scroll down to Settings and tap on it.

Tap on Account info.

Now, you will be in the same settings menu that we saw on PC.

Here too you will have to tap on the paper-pen icon next to your username, buy RBX if you don’t have enough, and enter your desired username and account password when you get that option.

Why Does Roblox charge to change username?

Every username is linked to a particular account. That means your username is linked and reserved for only your account, and that goes for your previous usernames as well. If Roblox allowed users to change their screen names willy-nilly, anybody could hoard up the names, making it difficult for new users during the sign-up process. Kids, in particular, would have a ball changing their usernames every day, creating a huge identity mess.

With that 1000 RBX price-tag, Roblox is basically discouraging you from changing your username often. This system, pricey though it may be, also ensures that exiled users cannot return to the same group under a different username easily. Changing usernames also makes it a hassle for those that know you, making it harder for them to realize the change and adjust to it.

Additional Roblox Username Modifications

Changing the username is easy, but there are some other modifications that you might need to make, such as changing your username color and changing your group’s name. Apart from that, we shall go over one much-touted method that apparently changes your username for free (and whether it still works or not).

Change Roblox Group Name

Roblox is quite conservative when it comes to allowing group admins to change their group’s name. In fact, there’s no such option that exists. But like many other things on Roblox, there’s a workaround even though it is a bit tedious.

Make sure that your email account is linked to your username and open up the Roblox support page.

Then type in your details – First Name, Email Address, and Confirm Email Address. In the username field, enter the group username that you wish to change. Select the device that you use for Roblox.  For the ‘Type of help category’, choose User Safety Concern, and then Inappropriate game or user behavior in the next field.

Now comes the tricky bit – the description of the issue. Instead of cooking up some wild story, stick with something simple and plausible. For instance, tell them that you are requesting the group’s name changed because it contains personal information that would rather keep private. Mention your old group name as well as your desired group name.

Try not to copy it exactly as we’ve mentioned here. Change it up a little to make it as persuasive and authentic a concern as you can. Then hit Submit.

Roblox may not reply to you immediately, or even within a couple of days. But be patient. If you haven’t heard from them for more than two days, send them another email. They will come around eventually and let you change the group name.

Note: Do this at your own risk. If Roblox doesn’t find the concern genuine, you may get a warning, or your account will be suspended.

Change Roblox name color

The color of your username is assigned randomly, for the most part. The username color you get also depends on the number of characters in your name to some degree as well. It’s safe to say your resultant username color is based on a mix of these two variables.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to pick your username color. However, your username color could change if you change your username as well. Of course, there’s no guarantee that your color will change, and harder still is to get the color that you want.

Can you change your Roblox username with a script (for free)?

There are dozens of web videos claiming to have found a way to change your Roblox username by altering the script of your Accounts Info page. One such Youtuber, Vaxpods, has a video on how this can be done.

The idea is simple and it works like this:

First up, go to this pastebin link. Scroll down and copy everything under RAW Paste Data.

This will open up the script that the page is using. You will find that a section is highlighted in blue.

This will start the process and as soon as the numbers reach 100%, your username will change. Depending on your computer’s processing speed as well as your internet, this may take a while.

There have been many such scripts in the past that claim to Roblox username for free. But most of them get patched by Roblox in time so that you never get to the 100% mark. If you find that the percentage numbers slow down considerably, especially once they hit 95%, then it may be too late for you. You may have to wait until a new script comes out that hasn’t been patched yet.

We hope that you were able to change your username, along with its color. Do you think Roblox charges way too much for as simple a thing as a username change? Or do you think it’s required to deter people from hoarding up names that they fancy? Let us know below.

Here’S How To Open Exe Files On Your Android Phone

You can open exe files on Android using Inno Setup Extractor or any DOS BOX app like aFreeBox. You can also use Wine, but this app isn’t available in the Google Play Store. An easier option would be to sign up for a cloud computing service.

Cloud computing

Editor’s note: Android doesn’t officially support exe files. You will likely encounter roadblocks such as bugs, compatibility issues, etc. Do this at your own risk, and make sure you know what you’re doing before tinkering with your phone.

Run exe files on Android with a DOS BOX app

You are likely aware of DOS BOX applications if you have any experience running older programs on more recent operating systems. They allow programs made for the old MS-DOS system to work on Windows via emulation. The good news is that there are also DOS BOX apps for Android.

One of the easiest to use is AFreeBox. If you have installed this app on your Android phone, you might be able to open some exe files. To do that, place the exe file you want to use in a new folder on your device and name it (any name is OK, just make it easy to remember). Then run AFreeBox and type “cdfolder name” into the command line. Once inside that folder, type in the name of the exe file in the command line. If the program is compatible with the AFreeBox app, the exe file should run on your Android product.

Run exe files on Android with Wine

There’s another app that’s very good at opening exe files on Android. In fact, it may be the easiest solution, but the only main downside is that it’s not available from the Google Play Store. Instead, you have to download the apk file from the official site’s download page.

By the way, you’ll need to ensure you get the right apk file. There are options for both ARM or x86 processors. Find out what kind of processor your device uses, and then pick the latest app version with your processor type on the file name.

Once you have the file, you’ll have to install it manually. We have a guide on sideloading apps if you need to learn how to do this. Once you have it in your phone, launch the app and open your exe file.

Alternatively, you can try a remote desktop app like Chrome Remote Desktop to access a PC from your Android phone. This is less exciting, and you need an actual computer to connect to, but it’s a free alternative.

Exe files aren’t supported by the Android operating system. That said, there are some ways to unpack and use exe files using certain Android apps.

Android apps that can open exe files can’t really open all exe files. Don’t expect to run video or photo editors, or high-end games. Some older games and apps will work, though.

Exe is a format used by Windows alone. It is not compatible with the Android operating system.

If you want to play Windows games using an Android smartphone or tablet, there are now better ways to do it. You can use services like NVIDIA GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming to game on the cloud. Not many spend their time customing their Android device to its potential but changing the wallpaper is something we all love, geeks or not. While we have talked about some of the best wallpapers apps on Android (and live wallpapers) in the past, we know you can’t be bothered to try new wallpapers every day. So, it’s easy to fancy why you would love to have a system where you can get a new wallpaper daily, automatically.

Let’s see how to change your Android device’s wallpaper automatically at regular intervals, whether your own set of chosen wallpapers or random ones.

The following guide will help you create a wallpaper playlist, after which new wallpapers will be set automatically on your Android device.

Using Google Wallpapers

Step 1: Download and install the Google Wallpapers app from Google Play and then open the app.

Step 2: Tap on any of the categories available inside the app. In this instance, we’re choosing the Landscapes section.

Note: Live wallpapers do not qualify for automatic rotation inside Google Wallpapers.

Step 3: Inside the Landscapes page, tap on the Daily wallpaper box to turn out the preset wallpaper playlist.

Step 4: Now, you’ll be prompted whether you want your next wallpapers to be download via any network or only on WiFi. Check the box adjacent to Download future wallpapers on Wi-Fi only to allow the app to only change wallpapers when connected to a WiFi network.

Step 5: Tap on Continue.

Step 6: In the next screen, tap on Set wallpaper under Rotating Image Wallpaper.

Step 7: Choose whether you want the Daily wallpaper to be set for your home screen only or on both the home screen and lock screen.

You have successfully created a wallpaper playlist using Google Wallpapers on your phone. You can refresh the wallpaper by opening the Google Wallpapers app and tapping on the Refresh icon at the top right.

Using Muzei Live Wallpaper

Muzei is primarily a live wallpaper app and offers almost every functionality that you’ll come to expect from a wallpaper app. You can control how often the app changes your wallpaper as well as blur and dim your icons to give icons and the status bar more prominence on your home screen.

When inside the Muzei app’s home screen, you can tap on the double right arrow at the bottom to jump to the next artwork.

Change playlist source

Muzei allows you to choose different sources for your wallpaper playlists. You can choose between Muzei’s artworks, My Photos (the pictures in your phone’s library), or from any of the compatible third-party wallpaper apps available on the Play Store including Backdrops, MySplash, Tapet, Wonderwall, and more that offer Muzei integration.

To change your wallpaper playlist source of Muzei:

Step 1: Open the Muzei app, and tap on the Sources tab at the bottom.

Step 2: From here you can choose from the available option by simply tapping on one of the options available inside this section. If a wallpaper app supports Muzei integration, it will also show up on this screen.

Change Auto Advance interval

You can change the interval after which Muzei will load a wallpaper onto your phone. To access the Auto Advance settings:

Step 1: Tap on the Sources tab at the bottom and then tap on the clock icon at the top right.

Step 2: Here you can choose from any time period between 15 minutes and 3 days from the menu.

The Auto-Advance Settings page also lets you choose whether or not you want Muzei to download wallpapers using only WiFi or through any network. To enable WiFi-only download, check the box adjacent to “Auto Advance only on WiFi”.

Change wallpaper semi-automatically

In addition to enabling Auto Advance on Muzei and skipping to the next artwork in the app’s home screen, you can change your wallpaper manually if you wish to from your wallpaper playlist. For this you will have to enable a gesture shortcut for Muzei, executing which you can change wallpapers easily. To enable these gestures:

Step 1: Tap on the three-dot icon at the bottom of the Muzei app’s home screen and then select Customize Gestures.

Step 2: Here, you can enable two types of gestures – double tap on the home screen or three-finger tap on the home screen for the wallpaper to be changed automatically. To do so, tap on the Next Artwork option under either of the gesture options.

Now every time you make selected the gesture (double tap or three-finger tap) on the home screen, the wallpaper will change.

Blur, dim, or gray your wallpaper

Muzei additionally lets you tweak a background to better suit your icons and the status bar, so they don’t look out of place. You can tweak the background by blurring it, dimming it, or adding a gray shade to it. You can do so by following the instructions below:

Step 1: Tap on the Effects tab at the bottom of the Muzei app.

Step 2: Adjust the respective sliders to get your desired effect under the home screen and lock screen tabs at the top.

That’s it! You’ve successfully set up Muzei to load up wallpapers automatically on your Android device.

How To Change Default System Font In Windows 11/10

If you’re tired of using the default system font on Windows 11/10, you can change it to your desired font with a simple registry tinkering. This will change the default system fonts of the desktop icons like Recycle bin, including title bar, message box, and others.

In the older version (Windows 7 or lower version) changing the default system font was not a big deal. It was quite easy and straightforward through personalization settings in the Control Panel. But for some reason, these settings were removed and users remained stuck with the default system font. You had to do just this:

Pull down the list item and choose the element you want to change the font, icon, for example.

Then pull down the Font list and choose the font to use. Then define its size and horns (bold or italic).

In this article, we will show how to change the default system font on Windows 11/10, including the way to restore the default system font using the Registry Editor. Before you proceed, one thing you must know is that without having proper skills, editing a registry is dangerous. It can damage your system permanently which might be irreversible. So, if you have a little knowledge of what you’re doing then you can skip it and ask a skilled person to complete the adjustment.

Change default System Font in Windows 11/10

Before you go ahead and use the steps, do remember to create a system restore point first.

To get started, open Notepad first. You can open it using the Run command. Simply press Windows+R keys to launch the Run dialog box, type Notepad in the text field, then hit Enter to open the Notepad app.

In the Notepad app, copy and paste the following text code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFonts] "Segoe UI (TrueType)"="" "Segoe UI Bold (TrueType)"="" "Segoe UI Bold Italic (TrueType)"="" "Segoe UI Italic (TrueType)"="" "Segoe UI Light (TrueType)"="" "Segoe UI Semibold (TrueType)"="" "Segoe UI Symbol (TrueType)"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFontSubstitutes] "Segoe UI"="NEW_FONT"

In the left pane, select the Fonts tab. You will see a large collection of the font family on the right.

Select the font you want to use from the list and also note its Official name. For example – Book Antiqua.

Now replace “NEW_FONT” with the font name you have selected from the Settings page. Because I prefer the font name “Book Antiqua” to be used in the entire system so, you can see the above image, I have replaced the “NEW_FONT” with the Book Antiqua in the registry code.

After performing the above steps, restart your computer and the new font will substitute in the entire system.

Once you have done, restart your computer and it will revert your system configuration to the default font.

TIP: Advanced System Font Changer lets you change System Font in Windows.

How To Block Websites On Any Android Phone

The reasons you may want to block a site on your Android device can vary. For one, you may share your device with your kids and don’t want them to have access to any inappropriate content.

Whatever the reason may be, you may be happy to know that blocking any website on your Android device is an easy task. You can do it without rooting your phone. You don’t have to be a tech genius to get rid of those sites finally.

How to Block Any Site on Any Android Device with Firefox

To block any site on your Android device, you’ll need to install Firefox. Launch the browser and tap on the three vertical dots at the top-right. Tap on the “Browse all Firefox Add-ons” option, and in the search bar at the top left type “BlockSite.”

Add it to your Add-ons and then tap on the three vertical dots again and select Add-ons. BlockSite should be at the top of the list, choose it. Go to Options, and at the top you should see where you can add the URL of the site you want to block.

As an example, CNN was blocked. You’ll need to type out the full address and tap the orange button that says “Add Page.” The process doesn’t end there since you have to add the time you want the site blocked.

Tap on the clock icon, and check the boxes the days you want the site blocked. To the right of those boxes, you’ll see the time option. Tap on the drop-down menu, and decide the period. When you’re done, select the green Set box.

Try to access the site you just blocked, and you should see a message saying that the add-on you installed has blocked it.

How to Block Any Site Using Samsung Internet Browser

If your preferred browser is Samsung’s integrated browser, then Trend Micro Mobile Security app is a great choice. Once you’ve installed the app, swipe down until you see the “Network Protection” option. Make sure it’s toggled on at the top, and then swipe down to the “Blocked list” option.

Tap on it and on the plus icon to add the site you want to block. After entering the name and URL address, select Save, and the site will be automatically placed on the blocked list. You can also set the protection level to either high, average, or low as well.

To test it, open Samsung’s Internet browser, and go to the site you blocked. You should now see a message from the security app telling you that this site is blocked. Unfortunately, the app does not work on browsers such as Firefox and Chrome (at least during my testing).

Block Sites Not Intended for Children on Chrome

Kaspersky Parental Control is a great app to keep your kids away from sites they’re too young to visit. When you first launch the app, you’ll need to specify who will be using that phone and fill in the name and age of the child.

Once you’ve filled in that information, you’ll get a message that everything was set up correctly. Safe Search will be automatically enabled for browsers, and the app will block any site that is not appropriate for a child in the age range you added earlier.

You’ll also need to have the app installed on the device you’re going to use to be able to block sites on Chrome. Once it’s installed, open the app and tap on the cog wheel in the Internet option.

Swipe all the way down until you see the Exclusions option, and tap on websites. Select the green plus sign at the top-right, and add the site you either want to allow or block.

Block Any Site on Chrome and Firefox with Blocksite

An app that will block any site you list whether you’re using Chrome or Firefox is Blocksite – Block apps to Increase Productivity. You can block a site for a certain amount of time, or you can block it altogether. When you first open the app, tap on the green button at the bottom right.

Enter the address of the site you want to block. At the bottom you’ll see an option that will allow you to have the app ignore a schedule you can set up to only block sites between a specific time frame. If you want the app to always block the site, select this option, but if you want the site blocked for the time you set up, leave the option alone.

If you want to block sites during work hours, the app also has a work mode. This option will block any site you wish between the time frame you set up. To set this up, tap on the suitcase icon in the middle, and tap on the green button. Type the address of the site followed by the green checkmark at the top-right. Select the timer tab to set up the time frame.

It’s a lot easier to block sites if you have a rooted Android device, but not everyone likes the idea of having to root their phones. It’s a risky process that has some severe consequences.
