Suggested December 2023 How To Check Airpods Battery Life On Iphone And Mac

AirPods are incredibly tiny, but they also sport decent battery life. You can bank on 4-5 hours of listening time, and with the charging case at hand, you usually don’t have to worry about running out of juice either.

But that can make you too complacent. If you want to avoid any surprises, it’s best to keep closer tabs on the battery life of your AirPods. However, the status indicator on the charging case isn’t a convenient or reliable measure.

Table of Contents

Luckily, there are multiple ways to check your AirPods battery life and the charging case on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. We’ll explore every possible method in detail below.

Check AirPods Battery Life – iPhone & iPad

When using an iPhone or iPad, you can rely on the AirPods charge status alert, Batteries widget, AirPlay screen, or Siri to check your AirPods and charging case’s battery life.

AirPods Charge Status Alert

If you want to figure out the amount of charge remaining on your AirPods when you aren’t actively using them, then simply hold the charging case close to your iPhone or iPad and open it. Wait for a second, and you should see an alert with the relevant details.

You can also see the battery life on both AirPods separately—just take a single AirPod out of the case, and the status alert will update accordingly.

Add Batteries Widget

If you want to find the remaining charge while using your AirPods, you must add the Batteries widget to your iPhone or iPad. Not only does it reveal the information in real-time, but it also allows you to track the battery life on other devices and accessories such as the Apple Watch and Apple Pencil.

On the iPhone, simply long-press a vacant area of the Home screen. When everything starts to jiggle, tap the Plus icon on the top-left corner of the screen. Then, scroll down the widgets gallery, select Batteries, pick a widget size—small, medium, or large—and tap Add Widget.

The Batteries widget will then display the amount of charge remaining on your AirPods. It will also show the battery life on both the left and the right AirPod separately for a brief moment—including that of the charging case—each time you connect them to your iPhone.

Tip: Feel free to drag the Batteries widget around the Home screen. You can also push it into the Today View. Here’s how to manage widgets on your iPhone.

If you use an iPad, then you can only add the Batteries widget to the Today View. Swipe to the right from the first Home screen slide to bring up Today View (if you don’t see it already), long-press a vacant area, tap Plus to access the widgets gallery and add the Batteries widget in the size that you want.

Open AirPlay Screen

If you don’t want to use the Batteries widget to check your AirPods battery life, you can use the AirPlay screen instead. It’s just not as convenient.

Open the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right of the screen. If you use an iPhone with Touch ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen instead.

Then, tap the AirPlay icon to the top-right of the Music control, and you should see the amount of remaining charge underneath your AirPods. You should also find the charging case’s battery life if you just took your AirPods out of it.

Alternatively, you can tap the AirPlay icon on the iPhone’s Lock screen while playing audio to check your AirPods battery life.

Ask Siri

Did you know that you could ask Siri to tell you the amount of charge remaining on your AirPods?

Either say Hey Siri or press and hold the Side/Top button to invoke Siri. Then, say something along the lines of “What’s the battery life on my AirPods?” She should respond with the deets immediately.

Check AirPods Battery Life – Mac

On the Mac, you can use the Bluetooth status menu or Siri to figure out the battery life on your AirPods and charging case.

Use Bluetooth Status Menu

On a Mac with macOS Big Sur or later installed, start by opening the Control Center from the top-right of the menu bar. Then, expand the Bluetooth control.

You should immediately see the amount of charge remaining on your AirPods. If you haven’t connected them to your Mac yet, just open the lid on the charging case, and it should reveal the battery life on both the AirPods and the charging case.

If you use macOS Catalina or earlier, you should already see a Bluetooth status icon on the menu bar. In that case, just select it and point to your AirPods to check the remaining battery life.

Ask Siri

You can also ask Siri to tell you the amount of charge remaining on your AirPods. Select the Siri icon from the top-right of the menu bar and make your request. She should respond instantly with the battery life stats.

Check AirPods Battery Level – Apple Watch

If you use an Apple Watch, you can use the Control Center to view the amount of charge remaining on your AirPods. Or, you can ask Siri.

Use Control Center

With your AirPods connected to your Apple Watch, open the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Then, tap the Battery icon to see the battery life on your AirPods.

If you just connected your AirPods, you should see the battery life on the charging case as well.

Ask Siri

Siri can also reveal the battery status on your AirPods via your Apple Watch. Just press and hold the Digital Crown or raise your hand and say Hey Siri. Then, ask her for the battery life stats, and she should reply right away.

The Iphone 15 Will Set New Battery Life And Performance Standards

Nevertheless, TSMC has hinted that the new A17 chips will fully prioritize efficiency. They are said to consume 30 to 35 percent less power at the same speed. But that is not the only great thing about the new chips. TSMC has also hinted at other significant upgrades!

The iPhone 15 A17 Chips Will Be More Powerful Than the Previous iPhones

The tech that TSMC has used for producing A17 offers up to 1.6x logic density gain. That means it will be possible for the manufacturer to fit more transistors inside the chip. In other words, the iPhone 15 will theoretically be more powerful than the previous generations.

On that note, the 3nm tech is a full-node strike from the tech that is used for the A14 Bionic, A15, and A16. They all utilized the 5nm tech. The A16 Bionic chip, on the other hand, is based on an intermediary 5nm-derivate node, which is called 4nm. That chip fuels the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Pro.

A17 Chip Will Focus More on Thermals

9to5Mac, an Apple-centric website, has made an interesting observation from these TSMC reports. That is, the A17 chip will have better overall thermals than the previous Apple CPUs. And that observation seems totally valid.

As TSMC is focusing more on power efficiency over performance, the A17 chip of the iPhone 15 Pro and Ultra might manage heat efficiently. That means you might be able to game for a longer period without worrying about the iPhone heating up too much.

Is This the Right Move for iPhone 15 Ultra and Pro?

Gizchina News of the week

Another thing to note is that Qualcomm is still chasing after A16 Bionic when it comes to CPU performances. Although, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 offers better GPU performance. However, it is still a little behind in raw performance.

But the thing is, the GPU performance gain of Qualcomm came at the cost of thermals. And no one wants to get a toaster instead of a phone. So, Apple might make the right move by chasing after efficiency and battery life instead of hugely enhanced performance.

15% Speed Improvement

Though the iPhone 15’s A17 chip focuses more on efficiency and battery life, it does not disregard performance. TSMC has previously said that the 3nm tech would offer up to 15 percent better performance at the same power. That means Apple could configure the A17 Bionic and make it perform like a beast.

Apparently, the A17 Bionic chip will be exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and Ultra. And the iPhone 15 Plus and standard iPhone 15 will most likely come with the A16 chip.

However, the market’s response to Apple’s new strategy has not been good. Reserving the latest chipset for the Pro models has lowered the sales of the Plus and standard models.

This tepid sale count eventually upset Apple and made it divert its manufacturing focus to the Pro model this year. To avoid the same thing next year, Apple may decrease the price tags of the non-pro models for the iPhone 15 series. That means the iPhone 15 Plus might come at a lower price.

Daily Authority: Battery Life Battles 🔋

All these years later, while battery technology has improved, the demands on battery life are higher than ever: huge displays with higher refresh rates, 5G modems, higher-powered devices, larger silicon, more cameras, and so on.

On the other hand, ROMs are better at load management, and SoC design has more low-powered CPUs available in newer models.

There’s also more careful charging, where batteries are loaded to 80% to extend lifetimes over the years, even if it means a few hours less standby time or screen-on time in use.

Fast charging at higher wattages has also been one of the answers:

There’s no increase to how long your phone goes without a charge.

But if you only need a few minutes of plugged-in time to add 50% or more, you have fewer range concerns.

The problem:

Ultra-fast charging solutions will affect battery health over time.

The problem is chemistry: Faster charging generates more heat, which can more rapidly degrade elements of the battery chemistry, particularly in the electrodes.

No matter how many battery breakthroughs there are, most come with trade-offs around long-term battery life, how much charge can be stored, and so on. So many breakthroughs at a lab level don’t make it to production due to expense or yield problems.

We all remember the Note 7 disaster, and on a larger scale, the current GM’s Chevy Bolt battery fallout with LG (Ars Technica).

Risk aversion is a very real thing for manufacturers, from smartphones to EVs.

Speaking of: there’s been a breakthrough in battery technology thanks to sugar: Australian scientists have found that by using a glucose-based additive on the positive electrode (cathode) they have managed to stabilize lithium-sulfur battery technology. That could make batteries 2-4x more efficient, but development will take some five years or so (Tech Xplore).

Xiaomi’s latest:

Xiaomi is set to launch the Mi 11T series this week, a day after the next iPhone launch.

The iPhone will probably stick with 18W wired charging as in the iPhone 12, though it could get a speed boost.

Xiaomi is bringing 120W wired charging to the Mi 11T Pro, which will provide something like a charge from 0 to 100% in 23 minutes or so.

But that generates heat, and may mean your lovely flagship just won’t hold a charge within a year or two.

Xiaomi, though, has given a clear picture: Xiaomi’s head of communications, Daniel Desjarlais has said Mi 11T owners can expect 80% battery capacity after 800 charging cycles at these speeds, which is about two years of plug-in charges.

He said: “Now, that 20% might sound like ‘oh wow, I’m losing 20%,’ but that’s quite standard across basically all charging tech. 800 cycles, for most people, it’s going to be two years roughly. So that’s quite solid.”

Is it, though?

Slower charging definitely means less degradation. If you believe competitors, Oppo has previously claimed that its 65W wired charging solution, which is still very fast, loses 9% capacity after 800 charging cycles.

It’s a trade-off. The ideal situation would be super close management: sometimes all you have is a few minutes to charge. Most times you’ll just charge overnight, though.

Roundup

🍎 To catch you up if you missed it: The Epic v. Apple trial saw Epic largely fail to prove Apple was unfairly monopolizing apps with its App Store rules, saying “success is not illegal,” with complications around the arguments centering on video games, not apps, meaning Apple won 9/10 claims. How To Change Iphone Backup Location On Mac And Windows?

By default iTunes or Finder makes iOS device backups to a deeply buried folder on the internal drive. There is no specific setting that you can enable and choose a different location. These backups can run into multiple gigabytes. Thus, for better storage management, you may wish to change your iPhone backup location on your Mac or PC. Let me show you how you can move the default iOS backup location.

Notes:

Optional: After you complete the first backup at the new location, you may choose to delete the chĂşng tĂ´i folder. This may free significant space on your Mac.

If you opted to back up your iPhone to an external drive, make sure you connect it to the Mac before hitting Back Up Now in the future.

Restore iPhone Backup Folder to its Original Location on Mac

Do you not want to follow the lengthy process above? Well, here is the most straightforward way to change the iTunes/Finder iPhone backup location on Mac.

How to Change iTunes Backup Location Using iPhone Backup Extractor

Already Changed iTunes Backup Location But Unable to See the Backup?

Even after you have correctly followed the above steps and are unable to find the backup, then we have a separate guide that has you covered.

Most of the time, if you follow the first manual step, the problem arises due to the wrong location address of the new Backup folder. You must get that right. If this is wrong, go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync and you will see a white Backup symlink instead of a blue folder named Backup with an arrow.

How to Change the iTunes Backup Location on Windows PC

As iTunes won’t let you change it, you need to make way through a symbolic link. Also known as a symlink, it’s a bridge that connects two folders with the same name. Using a symlink, you can direct iTunes to back up data to a dummy folder that you’ll have to create. However, you’ll have to enter some commands in the “Run As Administrator” window. Just make sure that you create a dummy folder in a drive with enough storage space. Like, we created it in D:. Let’s get started by creating a folder first.

Create a folder named “MobileSync” in the D: (d stands for drive) on your computer.

To view the by-default location, go to C:UsersUserNameAppleMobileSync if you have downloaded iTunes from Windows 10 Store. For the old desktop version, you need to go to C:UsersUserNameAppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSync

Cut and paste the Backup folder to the new MobileSync folder that you’ve created in D:

Now, run CMD as administrator. To do so, press Windows + R keys together, then type cmd in the search field.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to run it as in the administrator.

Enter the command mentioned below.

If you’ve downloaded iTunes from the Microsoft store. MkLink /J “C:UsersUserNameAppleMobileSyncBackup” “D:MobileSyncBackup

Enter this code MkLink /J “C:UsersUserNameAppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackup” “D:MobileSyncBackup” if using the older version.

Now when you back up your iPhone using iTunes, the data will be stored in the D:MobileSyncBackup folder. Try backing up your iPhone and check if the Backup folder in the D: is configured correctly.

iPhone Backup Location Changed Successfully!

This is how you can have new iOS or iPadOS backups to a different location. Changing to some other folder on the same internal disk makes little sense. But doing the same on an external disk frees space on your internal disk.

How To Screen Record Netflix On Windows, Mac, Iphone, And Android

If you’re familiar with Netflix you know that the platform has a serious problem – it tends to delete content. For that reason, it’s common to see users trying to find alternatives to save content for watching later. The only way to save content for future use without restrictions is through a screen recorder.

Many users try to record their Netflix shows, but there is a black screen issue. However, it is still possible to screen record Netflix on your Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, and Android. Through this article, we’ll find out how.

Is it illegal to screen-record Netflix?

In simple form, it’s not illegal as long as you have an active subscription and keep the file saved with you. It becomes illegal as soon as you try to share the recorded file with others or on external unlicensed platforms. So, make sure to follow this tutorial for your particular use and convenience. With these methods, you can keep a backup of your favorite movies and shows.

How to Screen Record Netflix on Windows

First, we’ll start with Windows PC since it’s probably the platform of choice for many users across the world. There are dozens of solutions throughout the market, and you can even try your luck with Xbox Game Bar (despite all its inconvenience). However, through this article, we’ll recommend EaseUS RecExperts. It’s a complete, intuitive solution that will help you seamlessly record Netflix and its content.

To those unaware, EaseUS RecExperts is a free video capture software. It can record whatever is on the screen, not just Netflix. It can record videos, stream audio, etc. Further, it also allows you to easily record YouTube Live streams. It also comes with a high-quality built-in audio recorder, allowing you to get the best possible audio quality. You can set the recording to start at a specific time, and go do other things. Once the recording is done, it will allow you to preview, rename, and trim before saving the file.

Record Netflix with EaseUS RecExperts

First of all, you’ll need to Download and Install EaseUS RecExperts.

Step 3 – You’ll need to select your recording area, audio source, webcam devices, or more according to your needs. Of course, for recording a Netflix video we recommend you enable only the “System Sound” option. You can set the video to full-screen and begin the recording, there is a floating toolbar with options. Once the recording is over, you can preview the results via the app’s built-in media player.

Select your location and it’s done. You’ll have your favorite video saved on your computer for future use.

How to Record Netflix on Mac

Worth noting, that it’s also possible to use the EaseUS RecExperts on Mac. The software also has a specific version for Mac computers, that allows you to seamlessly record without much problem. However, we’ll start with a native solution of MacOS – the QuickTime Player.

How to record the screen of your Mac with QuickTime Player

Worth noting that this method is not 100% functional. In some cases, you may experience a black screen issue. So let’s find out how to Screen Record on Mac with the EaseUS solution.

How to record the screen of your Mac with EaseUS RecExperts

Step 1 – Download and Install EaseUS RecExperts for Mac.

Step 2 – If you’re going to record Netflix, open the streaming video that you want to capture. Launch EaseUS RecExperts to get used to its UI on your Mac. If you need to record the whole screen, then tick the “Full Screen” option.

You can also customize the recording area by selecting the “Region” option. You’ll manually adjust the region with the mouse. Similarly, to Windows, you can determine if you’re going to record the system audio or the webcam. Through the Audio Option, you can enable the System Sound and the Microphone Sound. Obviously, for a clean video recording, pick only the System Sound option.

Once you’re done, you can hit the Stop icon to end the recording task. After that, the preview will be available in the “Recording” lists. You can review the target and select another region of your Mac to store the file.

How to Record Netflix Videos on iPhone

Now that we’re done with Windows and PC, Let’s find out how to screen record Netflix content with the iPhone. For now, there is no EaseUS app version for mobile devices. However, you can use the iPhone’s native screen recorder for this task.

Step 1 – Open the Netflix movie you want to record on the iPhone.

The option is not seamless at all, so maybe you’ll need to trim the video with an application for future use.

How to Record Netflix videos on Android

Since Android 10, Google introduced a native screen recording app for Android. It can be accessed through the Quick Settings in the Status Bar. The process is similar to the one with iOS. You’ll need to open the video file you want to record, and then begin the screen recording through Quick Settings. A small floating bar will appear to help you to manage the recording.

The option allows you to record the System Audio and Show Touches on the screen. Of course, the options may vary across the distinct Android skins that we have in the market.

Once it’s complete, you’ll need to go to the status bar to finish the recording. Similar to iOS, you’ll need to use a separate tool to trim the file. Otherwise, the part where you’ve accessed the status bar to end the recording will appear at the end of the recording.

Of course, multiple apps on Google Play Store will offer more convenient ways to record the screen on Android. Also, some of them may get rid of the inconvenience of using the status bar to stop the recording.

Conclusion

As we’ve learned through this article, there are many possibilities to record Netflix content, regardless of the device you’re using. When it comes to Mac and Windows, we’ll get more complete solutions like EaseUS RecExperts. Although it’s possible to record content using your smartphone, we can’t help but recommend you do this through Windows and Mac. After all, with apps like RecExperts, you’ll be able to produce high-quality recordings.

With this software, you can easily record movies, TV Shows, Documentaries, etc. Then, when Netflix decides to remove the content, you’ll have it safely stored with you.

How To Add Text To A Photo On Iphone, Ipad, And Mac

Add text to an image on iPhone and iPad

There are a couple of easy ways.

Using Apple’s Photos app

The Markup feature of the stock iOS Photos app lets you add text to your pictures and screenshots. You have the option to use any color of your choice, pick a font size, and use one of the three font styles.

Here’s how to quickly add text to a picture for free on your iPhone or iPad:

1) Go inside the Photos app and open the image you want to add text to.

2) Tap Edit.

3) Tap the Markup button.

4) Now, tap the plus button (+) and select the Text tool.

5) Double-tap the “Text” box and type your words. After that, tap anywhere on the photo to hide the on-screen keyboard.

6) Tap your text to select it. Now, tap AA to select a font style, size, and alignment. Next, pick a suggested color from the bottom or tap the color palette dot to use a custom color and set the opacity. You can also tap the color picker icon from the top left and drag it on the image to pick a color that matches that portion of the image.

Using Phonto

Phonto is a highly-rated free app that offers various styles and easy options to put text over your image.

1) Download the Phonto app on your iPhone or iPad and open it.

2) Tap the camera icon from the bottom and select Photo Albums. After this, allow the app to access your photo library.

3) Pick the image you want to add text to.

4) Tap Done to exit the filter screen.

5) Once you’re inside the main editor, tap anywhere over the image and choose Add Text.

6) Type what you want to say, then select one of the various font styles and symbols. You can also pick from left, right, or center alignments. And if you tap Preset, you can add today’s date as the text. Note that you can later change these presets to custom text from the app’s settings pane. Tap Done once you have taken care of everything here.

7) Drag the text to the appropriate spot on the image. You can also pick an option from the sub-menu that appears. Here’s what they do:

Text: This will bring you back to the text-input screen you had in Step 6.

Font: Select a font.

Style: It has many options like text color, stroke (text boundary), background, shadow, spacing, underline, and blend. It will take a while to get accustomed to everything here. Remember to use the Color and Style tabs from the top.

Size: Increase or decrease the text size.

Tilt: Pick a degree of tilt for your image.

Move: Use the four arrow buttons to precisely move the text.

Curve: Curve the text inwards or outwards.

Finally, you can duplicate the text or delete it. Note: 3D and Erase are premium tools that require payment.

8) With the text added to the photo, tap the share button and choose Save Image or Save Image as PNG. After that, open your iPhone or iPad’s Photos app, and you will find the final edited image there.

Using other apps

In addition to the above two options, you can try several other apps and even online websites.

A quick search for “add text to photo” on App Store or Google Search should show multiple handy apps. But if you ask me, I would recommend Add Text, Canva, Snapseed, Studio, and Picsart.

And when it comes to online websites to add text to photos, I won’t recommend using them on an iPhone because of the small screen and difficulty of using the tools in the web browser. Not to forget, many of these websites are not optimized for mobile. But you can use them on your iPad (that’s hopefully connected to a keyboard and mouse) or your computer. We have talked about a few such websites under the Mac heading.

Add text to a photo on Mac

You can use the built-in options or third-party tools like Canva.

Using Preview

Preview is a built-in app by Apple that is the default destination to open images and PDFs. You can use it to add text to your photo. But remember to duplicate an image (Command + D) before opening it in Preview, as all changes you make using this app are saved in real-time, and you can’t revert them once you exit the editing window. That said, here’s how to put text over a photo for free using the Preview app on Mac:

3) Replace “Text” with what you want to say.

4) Next, with the custom text selected, you can style it up by using these tools:

Text Style [Aa]: Use it to change the font, color, size, style (bold, italic, underline), and alignment.

Fill Color: Use it to add a solid background behind the text.

Border Color: Pick this to add a colored border around the text.

Shape Style: You can pick a style or thickness for the border using this option.

5) Once you’re done, simply close the Preview app, as all your edits are saved to the image file in real-time. You can open the original image file in the Finder folder to see the text added over it.

Using the Photos app

Just like the iOS Photos app, you can use the macOS Photos app to add text over an image:

1) Launch the Apple Photos app on your Mac and open the image.

3) Hit the More button and choose Markup.

4) Select the Text tool [A] from the top.

5) Replace “Text” with your custom text.

6) Drag it to the desired spot and use the Text Style (Aa), Fill Color, Border Color, and the Shape Style button to customize your text. The process is similar to what we explained under the Preview app method above.

You can share this edited photo from inside the Photos app by hitting the Share button. Or, drag the image out from the Photos app and drop it over the Desktop or a Finder folder.

Using Canva

Canva is one of the most popular photo editing tools out there. I have used it daily for the last few years to create the featured images of my iDB posts.

Projects you save in Canva can be accessed on a computer, iPad, and mobile apps. Every change you make is saved to the cloud, and you don’t have to worry about losing them. As a result, you can start working on a photo and finish it later. On top of that, the free version of Canva doesn’t add a watermark to your images!

Here’s how to use Canva in a web browser on a computer to add text to an image:

1) Go to chĂşng tĂ´i and sign up for a free account. If you already have an account, simply login to it. Tip: You can visit Canva in Safari and sign up for an account using your Apple ID by confirming your Mac’s password or Touch ID.

5) Enter your custom text, and customize its font, size, color, and other things using the tools at the top.

Experiment with other methods

I’ve tried several online websites to add text to a photo but faced one of these issues:

The free version would add a watermark.

The sites are super slow to load and take a considerable time to upload the photo.

Editing tools may not be responsive.

As a result, I recommend using Canva, which doesn’t have these drawbacks. However, if you’ve made up your mind not to use Canva, you can try these alternatives:

IMG2GO (the best option out of the bunch. It also doesn’t seem to have the above problems)

Text2Photo

Online Image Editor

AddText

Kapwing

Finally, if your Mac has an Apple silicon (M1, M2 chip), you can also use iOS apps like Add text 2 on it. It worked well on my Mac mini with an M2 chip.
