How To Install Fonts On Windows 10

If you want to create a new document with stand-out text, you might want to think about installing a new font. These can be found online for free, as part of a font set, or for purchase. If you want others to see these fonts, you’ll need to use them in static files, such as PDFs or images. Otherwise, you’ll need to supply the font itself.

You can install fonts on Windows 10 in several ways. You can download and install fonts manually from online sources, you can install fonts directly using the Microsoft Store, or you can use third-party font managers to install fonts for you. If you want to know how to install fonts on Windows 10, here’s what you’ll need to do.

Table of Contents

Where To Find New Windows 10 Fonts

Other online sources for free fonts include Font Squirrel and Urban Fonts, but this is a far from exhaustive list. You could even design your own font using the free FontStruct service. Whether you’re downloading an existing font or creating your own, the font file itself will usually be in the TTF or OTF file formats.

If you’re a Photoshop user, you could make use of your Adobe Creative Cloud subscription and download fonts through that service. You can also install fonts on Windows 10 directly using the Microsoft Store.

Install Fonts in Windows 10 Using Windows Font Viewer

If you’ve downloaded a suitable TTF or OTF font file from an online source, you can install it in several ways. The first method is by viewing the font file itself. Window will allow you to preview a font and install it using the Windows Font Viewer.

This shows the font being used with the sentence, the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog, which contains every letter of the alphabet. The numbers 0-9 and some punctuation (such as semicolons) are also shown, allowing you to view the font design in full.

After a few moments, your new font will be available to use in other software on your PC.

Install Fonts in Windows 10 Using the System Font Folder

If you’re installing several fonts at once, however, then installing fonts using Windows Font Viewer would be a slow, time-consuming process. Instead, you can install the fonts manually by copying them into the Windows system folder for fonts (C:WindowsFonts) directly.

Once the files are copied or moved into place, the fonts will be available in your other apps and installed Windows software. You may need to restart any open apps to be able to view the fonts, however.

Install Fonts in Windows 10 Using Windows Settings

If you’re struggling to install fonts on Windows 10 that you’ve downloaded online using the method above, you can drag-and-drop them in the Fonts menu in Windows Settings instead.

Once dropped into place, the fonts will be ready to use immediately.

Finding and Installing Fonts from the Microsoft Store

If you’re struggling to find new fonts you like, you may be able to find them in the Microsoft Store, Windows 10’s built-in app store. Rather than searching for these manually, you can access the list of available fonts for download directly from your Windows Settings menu.

In the preview section for a font in the Microsoft Store, press the Get button. This will download and install the font on your PC. You’ll need to authorize the purchase if you’re purchasing a paid-for font at the next stage.

After the font has been installed, you’ll be able to use it in your other software immediately.

Using Third-Party Font Managers

If you’re struggling to install new fonts in Windows 10, you may prefer to use a third-party font management tool. These tools are an all-in-one solution for fonts, letting you download, manage, and update new fonts directly.

One font manager you can use is FontBase, a cross-platform font management tool for Windows, Mac, and Linux. FontBase is free to use, and it allows you to quickly install fonts from the Google Fonts collection without downloading and installing them manually.

Download and install FontBase to begin. Once it’s installed, you can view your currently installed fonts in the main FontBase window. If you want to install a new font from the Google Fonts collection, press the Google option under the Providers category.

FontBase uses an activation system to switch fonts on and off. When the app is open, the fonts you’ve activated become available to use in other software. When it’s closed, the fonts are disabled and become unavailable. This is designed to limit your system resource usage. To activate a font, select the checkbox next to a font in the Google list. When the checkbox is green, the font is active.

If you decide to install a FontBase font permanently, it’ll be available to use immediately, regardless of whether FontBase is open or not.

Creating New Designs with New Fonts on Windows 10

Once you know how to install fonts on Windows 10, you can let your creative side go wild. New documents, images, professional infographics and more can all benefit from a new font or two, especially if you’re bored of seeing the same old Times New Roman or Arial font in size 12 appear in your documents.

Once your fonts are installed, the next steps are yours. You could design and create a multi-page PDF in Photoshop, letting you integrate your new font style into a static document. You can even add fonts in Photoshop directly, with even more fonts available to install and use as part of your Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

How To Change App Icons On Windows

Many apps feature icons that aren’t really aesthetic, and that alone could disturb your desktop’s look! Fortunately, you can change app icons or folder icons in many ways to personalize your Windows PC.

Good to know: make your Windows desktop even more unique with these cool 4K backgrounds.

How to Change App Icon in Windows

To change an app’s icon in Windows, you’ll need to create a shortcut for it. In many cases, when a program installs on your system, it also creates a shortcut that is placed on the desktop, but that does not apply to all apps on your PC.

Select an icon from the default options available.

Find an icon you like on the website. Press “All Download Formats,” then select the “Download ICON” option.

Add the custom icon via the app’s “Properties” window.

Tip: revamp your desktop with Rainmeter skins.

How to Change a Microsoft Store (UWP) App Icon

Changing the app icon of a Microsoft Store app is a bit different. You can’t create a shortcut for it as shown in the previous section, as its files (including the .EXE file) are protected in the WindowsApp folder. However, there’s a workaround:

To create a shortcut that opens a UWP app, you need the AppID. To locate it, open PowerShell as an administrator and run the following command.

PowerShell will list all the AppIDs for all programs on your Windows device. Look for the one you want to create a custom shortcut for and copy its AppID. In this example, we are targeting Netflix.

explorer.exe shell:appsFolderAppID

The wizard will ask you to name the shortcut. Do so and press “Finish.”

Now you have a customized icon that can launch a UWP app. However, when you launch it, the app’s original icon will appear on the taskbar.

Tip: learn how to sort folders by size in Windows.

How to Change the Folder Icon in Windows

Changing the icon for a folder is more straightforward than changing an app, as you can customize it directly without creating a shortcut. Moreover, Windows gives you numerous built-in icons to choose from for folders.

Navigate to the “Customize” tab and select “Change icon.” Choose from the available icons in Windows or download and use your favorite icon from IconArchive, Pichon or anywhere else.

Tip: organize your Start menu the way you want on your Windows PC with these tips.

How to Change a File Type Icon in Windows

Changing the default icon for a file type means that every file of that type will have the same icon. For example, if you changed the icon for the DOCX file type, every Word file on your device would display the new icon.

To change a file type icon, use the free software FileTypesMan by NirSoft. It’s compatible with Windows versions XP to 11.

Launch the program for it to list all the known file types in your system. Scroll down to find your target file type. Alternatively, use the “Find” option.

In the “Edit File Type” window, make sure you copy the “Default Icon” path and save it somewhere. You can use that to revert to the default icon, should you choose to.

The file type icon will be changed instantly.

If you want to change back to the default icon, go through the same procedure again but replace the custom icon path with the default icon path you copied earlier.

How To Install Macos In Virtualbox On Windows 11

There are times when you want to use macOS on a Windows computer. For the most part, there was a wall between the two realms, macOS users need to adhere to Apple hardware, and can not be used on a Windows computer, but this wall is slowly disappearing. You can install macOS on your Windows system using a Virtual Machine tool. In this post, we will see how you can install macOS in VirtualBox on Windows 11.

Can I run macOS on Windows 11?

In order to run macOS on Windows 11, we will use Oracle VirtualBox. However, you need to make sure that you have a legally obtained copy of macOS, 2GBs of memory, and a 64-bit computer with 4 logical CPUs, and you should be an administrator or have administrative privileges. If you have all this, go ahead and install macOS on your Windows system.

Install macOS in VirtualBox on Windows 11

Installing macOS in VirtualBox on Windows 11 is the following four-step process.

Download macOS File

Install VirtualBox

Create the Virtual Machine

Configure VM’s Settings

Install macOS in VirtualBox

Let us talk about them in detail.

1] Download macOS File

You need to download the macOS file from Apple Store. You need to download the macOS BugSur file from the Store, since it is a large file, you need a good enough Internet connection, an ample amount of space, and some time. Keep in mind, downloading a file from an unauthorized place is not recommended.

2] Install VirtualBox

Once you have downloaded the operating system, go ahead and download VirtualBox, the Virtual Machine software we will be using. To do the same, go to chúng tôi and select VirtualBox-6.1.26-145957-Win.exe. You need to download the extension package called Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-6.1.26-145957.vbox-extpack alongside the VirtualBox software.

After downloading both files, go to the Download folder, and run VirtualBox-6.1.26-145957-Win.exe which is the installation package. You then have to follow the on-screen instructions to install the VM, once it is installed, run the extension package and install it as well.

Note: In case, you get an error when installing either of the apps, just disable Memory Integrity, reboot your computer, and then run the installation media.

3] Create the Virtual Machine

In order to install macOS, we first need to create a virtual machine using Oracle VirtualBox. The process may seem a bit intimidating, but if you follow the steps mentioned below, you will be able to create a VM without any hassle. To do the same, just follow the prescribed steps.

Launch Oracle VirtualBox on your Windows system.

On the next window, use the slider to allocate RAM to your VM, give it enough memory but should not be more than 50% of total capacity.

> VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk): Best for someone who wants to migrate their VM to VMWare.

Next up, you can select Dynamically allocated if you are not sure how much space is good and Fixed Size if you are certain of the space the VM should be allocated. We recommend you go for dynamic allocation especially if you are using SSD.

In the File Location and Size window, give at least 60GBs and continue.

This way, our Virtual Machine is created.

5] Configure VM’s Settings

Once you have created the Virtual Machine, let us configure its settings to make it suitable for macOS. To do the same, first, we are going to make some changes in the VM that we created and then run some CMD commands, so, follow the prescribed steps to do the former.

Uncheck Floppy, and use the arrow in front of the options to make Optical the first boot option and Hard disk the second.

Now, go to chúng tôi and copy all the codes into a Notepad file. In the first line of the copied code, you need to enter the location where you have installed VirtualBox, by default, the location will be the following, but if you have done a custom installation, use a different location.

cd "C:Program FilesOracleVirtualBox"

After editing the location, change every instance of Your Virtual Machine Name to macOS. After making all the adjustments, the code will look something like the following.

cd "C:Program FilesOracleVirtualBox" VBoxManage.exe modifyvm "macOS" --cpuidset 00000001 000106e5 00100800 0098e3fd bfebfbff VBoxManage setextradata "macOS" "VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiSystemProduct" "iMac11,3" VBoxManage setextradata "macOS" "VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiSystemVersion" "1.0" VBoxManage setextradata "macOS" "VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiBoardProduct" "Iloveapple" VBoxManage setextradata "macOS" "VBoxInternal/Devices/smc/0/Config/DeviceKey" "ourhardworkbythesewordsguardedpleasedontsteal(c)AppleComputerInc" VBoxManage setextradata "macOS" "VBoxInternal/Devices/smc/0/Config/GetKeyFromRealSMC" 1

Note: Except for the address in the first line, everything else must be the same in your code as well. However, if you have not changed the location during the installation process of VirtualBox, even the address will be the same.

To run these commands, open Command Prompt as an administrator and execute every single line separately. Running the first line will redirect you to the VirtualBox directory, and the rest of the code is there to make the VM suitable for macOS.

6] Install macOS in VirtualBox

After doing all the aforementioned steps, the environment to install macOS is created, all we have to do now is run the Virtual Machine and install the OS. Follow the prescribed steps to install macOS in VirtualBox.

Open VirtualBox.

You will be prompted to select the Language, do that and continue.

Once it’s done, close the Disk Utility screen.

You will be redirected to the Recovery page where you need to select Install macOS Big Sur and then continue.

Finally, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.

That’s how you can install a macOS Big Sur on a Windows computer using VirtualBox.

How To Install And Update Drivers On Windows 11

They contain all the necessary code for the operating system to communicate and control both on-device hardware and any external accessories you connect.

But with so much of this done automatically in the background, it might not be something you’ve thought about. While Windows 11 does install and update drivers for you, it’s not perfect.

Drivers can easily go missing or end up out of date, so it’s important to know how to install them for yourself. In this article, we’ll run through both automatic and manual methods.

How to install Windows 11 drivers automatically

By default, Windows 11 will automatically download and update the necessary drivers. But it’s worth making sure this is still happening, or turn it off if you’d prefer:

Anyron Copeman / Foundry

From the window that appears, choose the ‘Hardware’ tab

Anyron Copeman / Foundry

With manual enabled, your device will stop installing and updating drivers immediately: there’s no need to restart your device.

This allows you to be more selective regarding the drivers you install, but you’ll have to keep on top of updates to make sure everything runs properly.

How to install Windows 11 drivers manually

There are a few ways to manually install drivers in Windows 11. The first is via Settings, which is the only one you’ll need to check if you still have automatic updates turned on – except if you notice anything not working properly:

Anyron Copeman / Foundry

These updates will now be installed like any new version of Windows 11. If you’re not prompted to do so, it’s worth restarting your device at this stage.

But any driver updates that would usually be installed automatically won’t show up in Settings. If you’ve turned off automatic updates, you’ll need to download them manually from the relevant companies’ websites.

For most devices, you’ll need the drivers from the maker of the device and the processor it’s using. For each of the most popular ones below, search using your hardware model and serial number:

Once downloaded, you’ll need to install the drivers via Device Manager:

In the search bar next to the Start menu, search for ‘device manager’ and open the relevant option

For each driver, expand the relevant category and find the driver you’d like to overwrite

Anyron Copeman / Foundry

Select the folder where the driver installation files are located

Repeat this process for any other driver you’d like to install.

But for graphics cards, the links above won’t necessarily work. Your best bet for these is to get the control panel app for the GPU manufacturer, which can act as a hub for downloading and installing driver updates.

Here are the three most common:

Once installed, simply follow the on-screen instructions and check for updates. You can also download these individually, but the dedicated software is much easier.

How to check if Windows 11 drivers have been installed

There’s not usually any confirmation message, so how do you know that drivers have been installed successfully? Fortunately, it’s easy to check:

In the search bar next to the Start menu, search for ‘device manager’ and open the relevant option

Anyron Copeman / Foundry

Select the ‘Driver’ tab

See if the ‘Driver Date’ and ‘Driver Version’ match the one you tried to install
