Suggested January 2024 How To Remove Get Windows 10 Icon In Windows

Windows 10 is going to be out soon and I’m really excited about the news, as the new version packs some amazing features like Windows Hello, Cortana, and Edge, and also fixes the terrible start screen. In fact, the upgrade is free for all Windows 7 (and above) users, and the release date has also been announced. It is on the July 29th. As the release date is just around the corner, almost all the Windows 7 and Windows 8 users are seeing a new icon in their taskbar suggesting to reserve their free upgrade.

But the thing with this new taskbar icon is that it won’t go away even after reserving the free upgrade. So, if you want to get rid of this new icon and save some space on your taskbar, here is how to do it.

Note: before you remove the icon or the entire program, make sure that you have reserved your free upgrade.

Suggested Method by Microsoft

The above action will open the “Notification Area Icons” window. Here find the “GWX” icon and select the option “Hide icon and notifications” from the drop-down menu under the Behaviours section.

From this point forward, the “Get Windows 10” icon will be hidden for good.

Uninstall the Update

If you want to completely remove the icon from your system, then the best way would be to uninstall it. In case you don’t know, the “Get Windows 10” notification was installed in the form of a recommended update (KB3035583). So, if you uninstall the update, you can completely remove the icon from the taskbar.

Now, search for the “KB3035583” update using the integrated search feature. This action will fish out the update that is responsible for the Upgrade notification icon.

Just restart the system and you are good to go.

The Dirty Way – Delete Files in the Tasks Folder

But you cannot disable or delete the tasks, as they are protected by the system. We need to delete the relevant files and folders from the Windows File Explorer.

So, open the File Explorer using the shortcut “Win + E” and navigate to the “C:WindowsSystem32TasksMicrosoftWindowsSetup” folder. You may receive a warning message regarding the permissions; just hit the “Continue” button.

Once you are in there, just delete both the “gwx” and “GWXTrigger” folders. If you face any problems with the ownership, then you need to take ownership of both folders. As easy as it is, only follow this method if you fail in the other two methods

It is that simple to remove the Get Windows 10 icon both temporarily and permanently.

How To Disable Focus Assist On Windows 11. (Remove Taskbar Moon Icon)

If you have recently updated to Windows 11 and are currently going through the process of configuring the operating system to match your requirements. This article will show you how to remove the Focus Assist icon from the Windows 11 taskbar. That’s the little moon icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the taskbar.

Related: How to fix white or blank icons on the Windows 11 Desktop or Taskbar.

The official release of Windows 11 into preview builds this week has been quite the eye-opener as it is very different to the leaked release from several weeks ago. Changes go far deeper than everyone release making Windows 11 a lot less like a Windows 10 reskin and more like a new operating system. Although there are still a lot of features from Windows 10 left behind, they seem to be the ones worth keeping, at least at first glance.

If you aren’t familiar with Focus Assist, it’s pretty much a slimmed-down version of the Windows 10 Action Center and acts as a hub for system-wide events and notifications. Most people will probably mistake the icon for a weather widget at first, which is pretty understandable consider most weather icons are either a sun a moon or a cloud. Although I prefer the new Focus Assist concept more than the Action Center, I can’t see myself using it.

So as I generally like to personalise my Windows builds to a minimalistic state, without any stuff that I don’t have a use for, the first icon to go after the Search icon and Widgets icon is the Focus Assist icon (the moon in the taskbar). Although some people may find this icon useful it doesn’t really serve enough of a purpose for me to keep around long term. So if you find yourself want to remove the focus assist icon as well let’s get started.

How do you remove the Focus Assist (moon icon) from the Taskbar on Windows 11?

To remove the Focus Assist icon from the Taskbar on Windows 11, you’ll need to do the following from the Settings menu.

Next, change the option from Priority only or Alarms only to Off. This will completely remove the icon. If you change it to anything else it will still remain visible, just its internal processes will change.

As soon as you make the change it will take effect.

If you enter this menu and decide you might keep it on, you can further adjust its settings. Using the options under the Automatic rules area.

Cannot Remove Printer Windows 10 Error – How To Fix?

Printers are devices that convert text and graphic outputs from a computer to paper. We frequently use printers to print documents, reports, images, etc. for various purposes. However, some Windows 10 users have reported an error where they ‘cannot remove printer Windows 10’.

Here I shall discuss how you can solve this error on your device using six simple methods.

If you cannot remove your printer from Windows 10, there might be some driver error which is making you unable to delete your printer. You might be able to fix this by deleting the printer driver from the Print Server Properties window in Windows 10.

To remove the printer from the Printer server, follow these steps:

Open Control panel. You can do this either from a Run dialog or from the control panel.

Change the view to Large or Small icons depending on your preferences, if you see it set to Categories.

Select your printer from the list of available printers.

Go to the Drivers

Select your printer from the list of installer printers.

Remove your printer driver and software from the Windows Settings app.

If you see that this method fails and you cannot remove printer in Windows 10, you need to stop the print spooler service.

The print spooler handles the print jobs sent to your printer and any error to the spooler service can lead to you getting the Windows 10 cannot remove printer error on your device.

Open a Run dialog by pressing Win + R.

Type services.msc and press Enter to launch the Services console.

Check the status of the service. If you see that it is already running, first stop the service using the Stop button.

Open a Run dialog again using the Win + R keys.

Type %WINDIR%system32spoolprinters and press Enter to open the printer spool.

Delete all the files in the folder that opens.

Go back to the Services console, and open Print Spooler properties again.

Close the Services console and re-attempt removing the device from your computer.

Now you should be able to remove the printer easily from your device.

If you cannot remove a printer from your Windows 10 device, there might be some registry changes that you need to make before you are able to remove the printer itself.

To remove printer from registry, follow these steps:

Open a Run dialog by pressing Win + R.

You will see that the Printers key in the left pane is expanded.

Restart your PC once you have deleted the key.

Once you have deleted the registry keys for your printer, try removing your printer from the Devices section of the Windows 10 settings app. You should be able to remove the printer without any trouble.

Many users have reported that they were able to remove the misbehaving printer from the Print management application tool. This seems fairly simple to do, and you need to follow these steps to remove your printer using the Print management tool.

Open the Windows Search by using the keyboard combination Win + S.

Type Print Management, and select the first result from the list.

In the middle pane, locate your printer from the list of available printers.

This should allow you to delete your printer from your Windows 10 device.

If you prefer using command line interpreter tools, you can also use Command Prompt to delete your printer. You need to follow these steps to delete your printer:

Open an elevated command prompt window. To do this, open a Run window by pressing Win + R, type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to launch the Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

wmic printer get name

Locate the name of your printer.

The printer that you specified in the command should be deleted from your computer.

Upon uninstalling the printers from your device, you also need to remove the registry entries for the drivers corresponding to your printer. Follow these steps to delete the driver entries from your device.

Open an elevated command prompt window. To do this, open a Run window by pressing Win + R, type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to launch the command prompt with administrative privileges.

net stop spooler

Open a Run dialog by pressing Win + R.

For 64bit devices:- ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPrintEnvironmentsWindows x64DriversVersion-4

Now open File Explorer. You can use the keyboard shortcut Win + E.

Delete all files from C:WindowsSystem32spooldriversw32x863 If you have C:WindowsSystem32spooldriversw32x861 or C:WindowsSystem32spooldriversw32x862 folders on your PC, make sure to delete all files from those folders as well.

net start spooler.

So there you have it. Now you know how to resolve the ‘cannot remove printer Windows 10’ error on your device using the solutions provided above. Comment below if you found this useful, and to discuss further the same.

Best Free Icon Packs For Windows 11/10

Want to download a free Windows Icon Pack? An Icon Pack, as the name itself suggests, is a pack of new icons for the apps stored on your PC or phone. Normally an icon pack contains thousands of icons for various apps. These are not made by the apps themselves but designed by a third-party program to help you customize your devices.

Windows 11 comes with a new beautiful and modern user interface but we can make it look even better with some simple customizations. I am talking about the icon packs. 2] Kingdom Icons

Again, the name says it all. This icon pack has kingdom icons featuring swords, crowns, arrows, bows, castles, etc. So this pack is suitable for someone who is into such games, however, none of these icons represent any of your folders on the PC but it can certainly make your desktop look more personalized. Since the icons here won’t literally represent what your folders are about, you might face a little problem in searching your folders. This is one of the most popular Windows icon packs available currently. As the name says, it has very simple and plain icons for your folder. 7] Insignia Master

This is a nice one. This icon pack includes the icons for almost every web-based application- including Gmail, Messenger, Twitter, Drive, etc. But that actually fails the purpose of using the icon pack. This pack contains icons of many different sizes right from 16×16 to 256X256. Download Insignia Master.

How To Minimize And Maximize Windows In Windows 11/10

If you are a Windows user, you definitely know how to switch among the opened apps and how to minimize and maximize the opened windows. Almost all of us use the maximize and minimize buttons on the top right side of the apps for this purpose. Do you know there are multiple other ways in Windows 11/10 to maximize and minimize windows? In this article, we will see how to maximize and minimize windows in Windows 11/10.

If you have ever noticed that apart from maximizing and minimizing a window, there is one more option available in Windows 11/10, i.e., Restore. Before we begin our discussion on the different ways to maximize and minimize windows in WIndows 11/10, let’s see the difference between these three terms.

Maximize: When we say maximize, we refer to the app that has covered the entire screen of a user’s computer irrespective of his screen size.

Restore: Restoring a window neither maximizes it to the full screen nor minimizes it to the Taskbar. When you press the Restore button, the size of the selected window will change. You can consider it as a state between maximize and minimize. When you restore an app, both maximize and minimize options become available.

How to Minimize and Maximize windows in Windows 11/10

You can maximize and minimize active, inactive or all open windows in WIndows 11/10 by using the following methods:

By using the maximize and minimize buttons

By using the Title Bar menu

From the Taskbar

By using the keyboard shortcuts

Maximize and Minimize all the opened windows

Let’s see all these methods in detail.

1] Maximize and Minimize windows in Windows 11/10 by using the maximize and minimize buttons

3] Maximize and Minimize an opened window by using the Title Bar menu

4] Maximize and Minimize windows from the Taskbar

The following steps will help you maximize and minimize windows from the Taskbar.

Hover your mouse cursor over an app icon.

Select the desired option.

5] Maximize and Minimize the apps by using Windows 11/10 keyboard shortcuts

You can maximize and minimize the opened windows using keyboard shortcuts. Let’s see what these keyboard shortcuts are and how to use them.

Win + Up Arrow Key: This key combination maximizes the window.

Win + Down Arrow Key: When you use this keyboard shortcut, the opened window is first, restored, then minimized.

Win + Right Arrow Key: Maximizes the window to the right of the screen.

Win + Left Arrow Key: Maximizes the window to the left of the screen.

Win + Home: This key combination minimizes all the windows except the active desktop window.

Win + Number Keys: This keyboard shortcut is used to open the apps pinned on the Taskbar. For example, if you want to open the 4th app pinned on the Taskbar, you have to press the Win + 4 keys and so on. This keyboard shortcut works only for up to 9 apps because 9 is the largest single-digit number.

You can also use this Win + Number Keys shortcut to maximize and minimize the windows. For example, if you have opened an app that is pinned on the 6th number on the Taskbar, you have to press the Win + 6 keys to minimize it. Press the Win + 6 keys again to maximize it.

In the above screenshot, I have numbered the apps pinned on the Taskbar from 1 to 7. If all these apps are opened, the keyboard shortcuts to maximize and minimize the windows are as follows:

Win + 1: File Explorer.

Win + 2: Microsoft Edge.

Win + 3: Mozilla Firefox.

Win + 4: Paint dot net.

Win + 5: Notepad++.

Win + 6: Bluetooth.

Win + 7: Microsoft Store.
