2023 was the ultimate scenario of what we can achieve through video conferencing. As we started getting used to remote working and distant collaboration, one problem we all came to deal with was deciding whether or not to dress formally or stay in your casual attire. That’s where filters came into the scene, bringing a sense of life onto people’s faces, quite literally.
Unless you lived inside a cave this past week, you might have come across yet another new filter that apparently transforms your face into that of a cat on Zoom. If you’re one of those wondering how you can apply a cat as your face in a Zoom meeting, then the following post should help you achieve that with ease.
What is the Zoom Cat filter?
Last summer, you might have seen video meetings hosting a bunch of potatoes as participants and this time around it’s the face of a cat that’s making the rounds. This is all thanks to one viral video of a Texas lawyer who accidentally turned himself into a cat during a virtual court session and failed miserably to turn the filter off in front of a judge.
If you’re lucky enough to watch the video, you’ll see participants of the court session bursting into laughter when the cat says “Can you hear me? I’m here live. I’m not a cat”. Fortunately, you can also make yourself look like a cat on Zoom if you follow the instructions below.
How to become a cat on Zoom
Zoom’s filter catalog doesn’t include an option that lets you add a cat mask onto your face. To transform yourself into a cat on Zoom, you need to install the Snap Camera application installed on your PC or Mac, enable it and then select the filter from the list of options. Here’s how you get started:
Step 1: Install Snap Camera on your PC/Mac
Once the app package has been downloaded, open it and follow the instructions on the screen to successfully install Snap Camera on your computer.
After Snap Camera is installed on your system, you can proceed to enable it on Zoom, and only then would you be able to apply filters to your face.
Step 2: Enable Snap Camera on Zoom
To enable Snap Camera on Zoom, open the Zoom application on your Windows PC or Mac and go to its Preferences/Settings screen. You can get there by:
There you go, you have successfully enabled Snap Camera on Zoom.
Step 3: Turn yourself into a cat
After you have switched your default camera to Snap Camera on Zoom, it’s now time to turn yourself into a cat. To do this, open Snap Camera on your PC or Mac and grant all the necessary permissions (camera and microphone) for it to function properly.
When you have given the application all the permissions, you will be able to see a preview of your computer’s physical webcam at the top and below it, a bunch of Featured Lenses available on Snap Camera.
Here, search for ‘Zoom Cat’ and you should be able to find the ‘Zoom Cat 3D’ filter in the search results. Alternatively, you can go to this link to get to the ‘Zoom Cat 3D’ filter page using your web browser.
You can now start a meeting on Zoom or join an ongoing meeting to greet others as a cat but with your voice on it. Move your head sideways and open your mouth to make the cat more lively. Others should also be able to see the cat’s face move while you’re speaking during the meeting.
How to remove cat filter from Zoom
Becoming a cat is fun indeed but when you’re called into meetings with your colleagues or clients, being a cat might prove to be cat-astrophic. It’s thus important to check if your face is being presented properly when meetings require you to be serious.
Method 1: Before a Zoom meeting
You can now close the Zoom Settings window and the meeting will now feature your actual face instead of that of a cat.
Method 2: During a Zoom meeting
Select your physical webcam or default webcam from the popup menu that appears. On macOS, your main webcam will show up here as “FaceTime HD Camera”. Select it to switch the cat filter off and use your built-in camera for the Zoom meeting you joined.
That’s all there is to know about Cat filter on Zoom. For more stories on this, check out our dedicated Snap Camera and Zoom sections.
Windows 11/10 comes with a Mobile Hotspot feature which lets you share your existing internet connection to other devices over WiFi. One of the caveats of this feature is that it doesn’t remain always on. If there are no devices connected to it for over five minutes, Mobile Hotspot will automatically turn off. In this guide, we will share tips to stop Mobile hotspot from Turning off Windows 11/10Stop Mobile Hotspot from turning off in Windows 11/10
Here we have taken two scenarios. First is where the Mobile Hotspot feature turns off automatically. The second is where the hotspot disables when there is no internet connection.
Turn off power saving feature
Use Powershell command to change PeerlessTimeoutEnabled settings
Increase Mobile Hotspot idle timeout settings
Increase timeout period when a cellular connection is unavailable
Disable WiFi and network adapter power management options
This feature will not work if you do not have a WiFi adapter. If you are using a desktop, you can add an external WiFi adapter. Before you begin, do remember to create a system restore point first.1] Turn off Power Saving feature
In Windows 11:
Toggle on Share my Internet connection with other devices
Against Power saving, toggle off the option – When no devices are connected, automatically turn off the mobile hotspot.
In Windows 10:
Toggle on Share my Internet connection with other devices
At the end of the settings, toggle off the option – When no devices are connected, automatically turn off the mobile hotspot.
Post this; even if you do not have a device connected to Mobile Hotspot, it will remain always on. The option is visible only when you turn on Mobile Hotspot.2] Use PowerShell command
Open PowerShell with admin privileges, and execute the commands given below:powershell -windowstyle hidden -command "Start-Process cmd -ArgumentList '/s,/c,net stop "icssvc"
This stops Mobile Hotspot Service (icssvc).
Then execute this command:REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesicssvcSettings" /V PeerlessTimeoutEnabled /T REG_DWORD /D 0 /F & net start "icssvc"' -Verb runAs"
This adds a Registry value and then restarts the stopped service.
It will make sure that Mobile Hotspot doesn’t turn off itself.
Here is what the script is doing in the background.
It stops Mobile Hotspot Service (icssvc)
Then it opens:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesicssvcSettings
Creates a DWORD Key PeerlessTimeoutEnabled with value 0
Restarts Mobile Hotspot Service (icssvc)
While you can do this manually, we highly recommend using the PowerShell command for best results.3] Increase Mobile Hotspot idle timeout settings
The default timeout when there is no active connection is five minutes. If you do not want to keep it always on, but keep it turned on longer, you can use this method. By changing the same key PeerlessTimeout available at a different location, you can change it to a maximum of 120 minutes.
Open Registry Editor
Change the value of this key to anywhere between 1 to 120
Exit and Restart.4] Increase timeout period when a cellular connection is unavailable
Many a time you want to connect devices, so it becomes part of the network. However, Mobile Hotspot will automatically turn off when there is no internet or mobile data. However, using a registry setting, you can change any value between 1 and 60 inclusive. The default value is 20 minutes.
Open registry editor
Set the value between 1-60
Exit and restart
Keeping this on will let you use your computer as a bridge for all devices. You will be able to access files and folders of other devices by sharing them on the network.5] Disable Wifi & Network adapter Power Management options
The WiFi adapter and the network devices have properties that will turn off when on battery, and not used for a long time.
Open Device Manager (Win+X+M)
Expand Network devices list
Select the Wifi adapter, and go to the Power Management tab
Anything related to power saving should be turned off
It will make sure none of the network devices will turn off Mobile Hotspot or trigger anything which will do that.
While you can choose to keep the Mobile Hotspot always on, it will impact your battery life if you use a laptop. Most of the devices with the Mobile Hotspot feature has the same setting to make sure to save the battery.
Google’s John Mueller answered an interesting question about why mobile and desktop search rankings can differ. Mueller offered several factors related to personalization to explain why the two kinds of searches sometimes are different. Why Do Desktop and Mobile Search Rankings Differ?
The person asking the question was interested in learning how to diagnose the reason why a site might not perform as well in mobile search as it does in desktop search.
Here’s the question:
“Why… How are desktop and mobile ranking different when we’ve already been switched to mobile first indexing?”
Google’s John Mueller pointed out that indexing and ranking are two different things.
Just because we’re in a mobile-first indexing environment doesn’t mean that the mobile and desktop versions will be ranked equally because they were indexed as mobile.
“So, mobile first indexing is specifically about that technical aspect of indexing the content.
And we use a mobile Googlebot to index the content.
But once the content is indexed, the ranking side is still (kind of) completely separate.”Mobile and Desktop Rankings Are Contextually Personalized
Mueller next explained that for some situations the context of the searcher and the device that is used can alter rankings.
He explained that for some searches the needs of the users are different depending on the device and that can influence rankings.John Mueller Explaining Why Mobile and Desktop Searches are Different
“And it’s normal that desktop and mobile rankings are different.
Sometimes that’s with regards to things like speed.
Sometimes that’s with regards to things like mobile friendliness.
Sometimes that’s also with regards to the different elements that are shown in the search results page.
For example if you’re searching on your phone then maybe you want more local information because you’re on the go.
So we tend to show …a different mix of different search results types.
And because of that it can happen that the ranking or the visibility of individual pages differs between mobile and desktop.
And that’s essentially normal. That’s a part of how we do ranking.
It’s not something where I would say it would be tied to the technical aspect of indexing the content.”Page Speed and Mobile Factors for Ranking Differences
The person asking the question next asked a follow up question about diagnosing these ranking differences.
He asked if lower mobile rankings are an indication that mobile page speed factors are the cause.
Google’s Mueller answered:
“…Mobile friendliness is definitely a factor.
There might also be other factors that play in there, specifically with regards to mobile and desktop.
These are kind of the differences that are always a bit around with regards to mobile and desktop search results.
Sometimes it’s also just because it’s a different device or a different connection to the Internet so we use different settings essentially for personalization.”Difference in Rankings is Due to Personalization
Google’s John Mueller confirmed that mobile indexing is just indexing and separate from the ranking part of the algorithm.
He also revealed that personalization plays a role in the occasional differences in search rankings between the mobile and desktop searches.
Mueller explained that the needs of someone on a mobile device may be different from the needs of someone on a desktop device.
So if one is trying to diagnose why there are differences in ranking between devices then maybe it may be useful to see why the top ranked sites mobile versions might be preferable over the lower ranked pages within the context of a mobile device and personalization.
It’s possible there may be clues there to help diagnose the issues.Citation

For a long, long time Google Photos has had unlimited storage for photos stored in standard resolution, along with 15gb’s free of premium storage space. Recently, however, this feature was canned with Google reconsidering their super-generous offer to store unlimited content. Instead, the offer has been capped at 15GB of free storage, with the next best option of 100GB costing around $24USD a year.
If you have decided to or are currently deciding to continue on with Google Photos or are planning on signing up for an account, you’ll want to know a little bit more about Google Photos built-in Facial Recognition system (on by default) which aims to use artificial intelligence to better sort your photos into categories/groups based on who is in images uploaded to the service.
As expected, a lot of people have found this feature to be intrusive and a little creepy, which is why we’ve decided to create a guide on disabling it. To disable Google Photos Recognition you can do the following:
Open Google Photos, and sign in to your account.
Under Group Similar Faces disable Face Grouping.
Confirm the pop-up request with Turn off.How do you disable Facial Recognition within Google Photos? Turn off Facial Recognition in Google Photos.

If you are just starting out and planning on using the Google Photos app, you’ll be asked if you want to use this feature as soon as you open the app. If you don’t want to use it tap Don’t allow and you’re done. If however, you’ve missed this part already, you’ll need to do the following.
First make sure your Google Photos app is fully up to date, then tap your profile icon in the top right-hand corner.
Inside this section make sure the Face grouping toggle is Grey (off)
After you’ve made the change you can exit setting and Google Photos will stop using Facial Recognition.
Chief information officers are facing serious questions about how to mobilize their workforces with the applications they need. Yet many corporations have hundreds of internally developed desktop applications built for executives and staff, and they need a replicable application migration strategy to take these applications mobile.
From a Desktop to a Mobile Mindset
Because legacy desktop applications can lock businesses into outmoded thinking and technology stacks (“we’ve always done it this way”), moving a desktop application to mobile may mean a change in mindset for you and the business units you support.
When mobilizing an application, you can add features that enable workers to be more informed, responsive and productive, transforming how your company does business. For example, mobilizing a work order application can allow a dispatcher to send work orders directly to employees’ smartphones, saving both the company and its employees time and money by allowing workers to leave their homes and go straight to job sites instead of having to meet up at the central office for assignments.
Adding camera support to the newly mobile work order app enables workers to photograph or livesteam video of a damaged piece of equipment at a client location directly from the app. Field workers can now leave their digital cameras back at the office, and no longer have to trek through rush-hour traffic to spend time downloading photographs in the office at the end of their day.
With mobile apps, technicians in the field can also receive push alerts on their smartphones when their managers assign a new work order to them, and managers can establish alerts at important parts of a workflow that require attention from technicians in the field. The addition of alerts also benefits senior management and executives, as corporate back-end applications can send them notifications about major market shifts or events that require immediate management response and critical decisions. Mobility increases productivity by providing employees with crucial information right at their fingertips.
Executives also benefit by having real-time access on their smartphones to critical business decision data and applications. By building alerts into an application, they can have access to real-time data that is proactively sent to them, allowing them to make quick decisions and resolve potential issues before they occur.
Design Your Mobile App UI/UX Around Critical Info
Desktop applications are designed for a large screen, often with dashboards showing key data. Even if your employees are carrying a large-screen smartphone, you’ll need to redesign your app’s screen to focus on the critical pieces of information that a mobile worker needs to do their job. In the case of an inventory reporting application, you may want the mobile app screens to show surplus stock, low inventory or other information that requires direct action on the part of the user so that they can, for example, take immediate pricing action based on this data to reduce inventory.
Another option to explore is creating multiple job-based micro-apps to replace your desktop application, reducing data requirements even further. For example, a line manager may have an app on their phone that monitors the quota on the manufacturing line they supervise, and the executive over that manager may have two apps for pricing and sales. In the desktop days, both of these business users likely accessed the same application.
For some users, the case can be made to combine multiple applications into one mobile app. For instance, a field sales rep could benefit from one app that includes views into customer relationship management (CRM), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) data from a single interface. It’s about helping employees work most efficiently based on the data they require.
Lastly, it’s important to ensure that you have a consistent user experience throughout all of the applications you build and deploy. The goal should be to have the users able to use the application with little to no training, so that when new applications are rolled out they know how to use them to perform their jobs.
Bridge the Divide With MBaaS
A major back-end consideration is how to get the legacy data from your enterprises to your new mobile app. You can use mobile-backend-as-a-service (MBaaS) or another cloud-based micro-service platform to transform your application data into a mobile-friendly REST API to bridge the gap between mobile and the legacy enterprise. Samsung has partnerships with several MBaaS providers including:
An MBaaS can manage your application’s database replication from on-premise to a cloud backend, opening data access to mobile users. These platforms include tools for secure app development and security policies, and you can integrate them with an enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution.
Making the changes to mindset, UI and database replication are key elements in application migration from desktop to mobile, enabling you to deliver mobile apps that are specific, quick and responsive to your business needs.
Our enterprise solutions and technologies are designed to provide the balance of security and productivity businesses need to keep up with an increasingly mobile workforce.
