A Taiwanese publication is reporting that Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) plans to release three Nehalem quad-core processors at the end of the fourth quarter, complete with specs on the new chips. DigiTimes, based in Taipei, cited motherboard vendors as its sources, many of which are also based in Taipei.

In addition to the chips, Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) will also launch the X58 and ICH10 chipset combination to support these processors. These will use the QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) architecture, replacing the venerable frontside bus design.

The TDP seems rather high, given Intel’s top Core 2 processors run at 95 watts and the top Xeons run at 120 watts. Part of the reason is that the on-die memory controller will add a good 15 to 20 watts to the processor, since it is no longer a separate chip. But also, reasons the analysts, that’s the top end of the power rating.

“For all I know, that could be a maximum rating just so you could design a heat sink for worst case scenario,” said Tony Massimini, chief of technology for Semico Research. “It was probably something on a spec sheet, but right now I would guess those spec sheets are a boiler plate and will be the maxed on the top end. I would think when these [processors] are announced they will put out more precise spec sheets.”

Intel’s Sandy Bridge Cpus: What To Expect

Intel will be ringing in the New Year with their long-awaited second-generation Core processor, codenamed “Sandy Bridge.” It’s the “tock” of the company’s 32-nanometer fabrication process, which succeeds this year’s corresponding “tick”-the 32-nanometer die shrink of the company’s Nehalem microarchitecture, codenamed “Westmere.”

That’s a lot to digest: Intel’s general CPU strategy follows a tick-tock pattern; the company unveils alternating successions of brand-new microarchitectures and improvements for its product cycles. Sandy Bridge is the former: a brand-new chunk of CPUs with a new socket, new chipsets, and new technologies that are designed to push Intel to the next echelon of computing performance.

Of all the changes present in Sandy Bridge–including Intel’s final push to unify its desktop and mobile lines under an identical 32-nanometer production process, none are perhaps as remarkable as the company’s integration of a graphics processing unit directly onto the die of some Sandy Bridge processors. These should be able to double the performance of Intel’s current integrated graphic lineup. But that’s not all: neighbor to the GPU is an upgraded video processing unit that dedicates actual silicon to encoding and decoding videos, improving the performance of both.

But before we get too far into the raw technical details, here’s what Intel’s been able to let loose in regards to the actual lineup of chips heading out the door in early January. The company hasn’t dropped its “Core” designation for its CPU lineup: You’ll still see Core i3, i5, and i7 branded chips on the market. The number immediately following the “i” modifier-a “2”-will indicate that said CPU is a part of the Sandy Bridge family, as it’s a second-generation CPU. Three more numbers will indicate the specific processor SKU, and a letter possibly appended to the end-“K,” “S,” or “T”-will detail whether the CPU is unlocked for overclocking, optimized for “lifestyle” computing, or optimized for power-savings.

Intel’s second-generation Core processors will come in two- and four-core variants. Hyper-threading is still present; it’s the process by which one physical CPU core is split into two virtual CPU cores of-sorts. Turbo Boost is back as well, but it’s been kicked up a notch from Nehalem’s designs. Not only can all four cores receive an automatic overclock depending on your system’s workload, but the CPU will actually push past the rated thermal design power (TDP) of the chip itself for brief periods of time. The technological wisdom is that a CPU can get away with a bit of over-overclocking before it has to back off at the TDP limit — the CPU doesn’t immediately jump up to said limit, for example, if the cores get clocked up to extreme amounts.

Those opting to use Intel’s built-in CPU/GPU combination instead of a discrete graphics card will also be treated to enhanced video decoding and encoding capabilities as a result of the chip’s built-in media processor. But just how much has Intel’s fixation on fixed-function processing boosted its video capabilities? A demo at this year’s Intel Developer Forum featured a three-minute 1080p source video converted to a 640-by-360 iPhone video in around 14 seconds-or roughly 400 frames per second.

New vector extensions built into Sandy Bridge CPUs-dubbed AVX, or Advanced Vector Extensions-should increase floating-point performance for tasks like video and photo processing, as well as certain financial applications. In essence, AVX’s 256-bit vectors–double those of its predecessor instruction set, Streaming SIMD Extensions or “SSE”-will allow your system to crunch more data by grouping it together in larger chunks. And that directly correlates to the power efficiency of the chip itself. In order to actually benefit from AVX however, consumers will have to be running Windows 7 SP1. Expect to see the update hit sometime in the first quarter of 2011.

Google’s John Mueller offered additional details about what could cause a site to lose ranking in the recent core algorithm update. And it has nothing to do with authors.

It’s about how Google defines what is relevant to a user query

What is relevant for specific users.

This is what Google’s John Mueller said:

“This is something kind of like we mentioned before. These are general algorithm updates that we make from time to time with regards to search. And it’s not like your site is worse or different in any way. It’s essentially our algorithms are re-evaluating what we think makes sense what we think is relevant for search results for specific queries and users.

And this can and should change over time. That’s completely normal.

One example you might use is if you have a query like best movies. Then that’s something like where obviously like last year you’ll have one set of movies and maybe if you looked at it this year you’d have a different set of movies.

And it’s not that the old movies are worse in any way. It’s just like well things have changed. And that’s kind of how things are evolving in general…”

Meaning of Search Query Changes

This part about changes in what search queries mean is an important takeaway. What a search query means to the majority of users making that search query is transient. Transient means that it changes, that it is not permanent.

When people mean when they search for certain phrases can change. This doesn’t mean that the definition of the phrase changes, either.

In my almost 20 years of experience evaluating sites that have lost rankings, some of the issues relate directly to the content and how it aligns with the prevailing user intent.

There are many reasons why a site will lose rankings. In a core algo update it’s good to not be locked into one factor. But understanding user intent and how users are satisfied with a search result can sometimes be a good area to begin the investigation.

Extract the downloaded file ‘I9100XXKPA_I9100OXAKPA.rar’ of XXKPA firmware to get these 7 files (the file-names may end with .tar instead of md5 as the file extension is hidden, so don’t worry):

Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC.  Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.

Now, put the Galaxy S2 in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume Down + Home + Power. You’ll get an options screen. Press Volume Up now to go to download mode (which is also called Odin mode). This is required to install the XXKPA (or any other firmware) using Odin PC Software.

Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !” under the Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message, then probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve proper drivers installed. See point 3 above under ‘pre-installation tips’.

Select these files in Odin at respective tabs:

Important! On Odin, make sure Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time check boxes are selected. Do not touch any other check box or tab or anything, except as was required in step 8 above.

Double check everything said in step 7 and 8 above. [And, do not use the files in step 2.3 and 2.4 anywhere in Odin]. This is my Odin’s screen while I flashed the XXKPA on my Galaxy S2 — your Odin’s window should look real similar to this:  

Now, hit the START button to start flashing of XXKPA Android 4.0 firmware on your Galaxy S2. When the XXKPA Android 4.0 firmware has been installed by Odin on your phone, your phone will automatically reboot — and when you see the Samsung logo, you can safely unplug the cable. Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. In case it says FAILS (with red background) or nothing seems to be happening, check the Important Note below after step 11 to know what to do.

When it has restarted, your Galaxy S2 will be running Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) with version being Android 4.0.3, build being XXKPA and Samsung’s custom UI TouchWiz 4 atop it. Check out your Galaxy S2’s android version here: Settings » About Phone.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If Odin doesn’t seem to be progressing/doing anything for more than a minute, or fails to complete the process, do the following:

Disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 5.

Override Assessable Value, Hsn Code, Party Details

TallyPrime allows you to specify all your GST-specific details for goods or services for your company. However, at times, you may have to override such details to accommodate specific sales requirements. Even if you had specified details such as the assessable value, the HSN details of your stock items, the party details or the Cess valuation type, earlier in your stock item or company, you can override these details in specific transactions, as needed.    

You may have set the tax rate details for all items when you set up your company or even at the stock item level. However, there may be a situation where you need to override the tax rate or taxable value already specified. TallyPrime provides you with the option to override the assessable value while creating the voucher. The tax is calculated on the overridden taxable value.

While recording the sales voucher in the Item Invoice mode,

Press F12 (Configure) and set Modify GST & HSN/SAC related details to Yes.

 press F12 (Configure) and set the option Override Taxable Value as Yes.

Select the GST ledgers. 

Select CGST and SGST for local sales.

Select IGST for interstate sales.

The transaction gets included in the relevant section of the GST report.

Press F12 (Configure) and set

Modify Tax Rate details of GST to Yes.

Select common Ledger Account for Item Allocation to No.

The Accounting Details screen appears.

Select the sales ledger. In the GST Details screen, press F12 and set the option Allow override assessable value to Yes.

Select the GST ledgers. 

Select CGST and SGST for local sales.

Select IGST for interstate sales.

Press Esc to return to the sales invoice. 

If you press Y (Enter) instead of O, the transaction appears as an exception in the GST report.

At the time of setting up your company or even at the stock item level, you may have set the HSN/SAC details for all the items. However, there may be a situation where you need to override the HSN/SAC already specified. TallyPrime provides you with the option to override HSN/SAC details while creating the voucher.

In Company GST Details, set the option Enable GST Classifications to Yes.

Create a new HSN Classification with the required HSN code.

Enter the HSN code, and applicable GST details.

Press Ctrl+A to save.

While recording the sales voucher in the Item Invoice mode

If you are on Rel 2.1 and earlier, you can see the option as Modify Tax Rate details of GST.

The GST Rate and Related Details screen appears.

Select the GST ledgers. 

Select CGST and SGST for local sales.

Select IGST for interstate sales.

The transaction gets included in the relevant section of the GST report.

At the time of creating the masters, you may not have complete details of the party, like the address, contact details, and even their GSTIN. You can update the party details in the invoices even after voucher creation by altering the voucher.

Open the sales voucher in alteration mode.

Select the party ledger.

Update the Dispatch Details, as applicable, and accept.

When creating the stock item, you need to define the Cess Valuation Type and the Cess Rate. While recording the sales voucher, the cess is calculated based on the details defined in the stock item. However, TallyPrime provides you with the option to override the Cess Valuation Type while recording the transaction.

While recording a sales voucher in Item Invoice mode

If you are on Rel 2.1 and earlier, you can see the option to Modify Tax Rate details of GST.

The GST Rate and Related Details screen appears.

In the GST Details screen, press F12 (Configure).

Override tax rate – Set this option to Yes.

In thescreen, press(Configure).

Select the GST and cess ledger.

As always, press Ctrl+A to save the sales voucher.

Reconciliation of Gross Turnover

A

Turnover (including exports) as per audited financial statements for the State / UT (For multi-GSTIN units under same PAN the turnover shall be derived from the audited Annual Financial Statement)

Displays the turnover as per the audited annual financial statements. To get this value go to Profit & Loss A/c report in TallyPrime and change the period to April ’17 to March ’18. Add the values of Sales Accounts groups and Direct/indirect Income groups. Enter the sum of these values here.

Ensure that the value matches with the audited financial statement.

Unbilled revenue at the beginning of Financial Year

Displays the unbilled revenue in the last financial year books create on accrual basis and carried forward to current year.

To get this value go to Profit & Loss A/c report in TallyPrime and change the period to April ’17 to March ’18. Select the ledger account created for unbilled revenue and press Enter to drill down. In the Ledger Monthly Summary screen, get the grand total of the Debit column.

Deemed Supply under Schedule I

Displays the aggregate deemed supplies as per schedule I that are not included in the audited financial statement.

Get the sum of the values in the following:

a) Credit balance of fixed asset ledger for the return period.

b) Sales and income ledger transactions of account created for related party. Go to the ledger voucher report of this part, press F8 (Columnar) and select sales and income ledgers under Name of Account. Record values displayed for sales group ledgers and income group ledgers in the columnar report.

c) Value from transactions such as material out, stock transfer to third party godown, delivery note (not billed) recorded for transfer of material without consideration is recorded here.

In case the value is already reported in 5A, the same need not be reported here.

Credit Notes issued after the end of the financial year but reflected in the annual return

Displays the aggregate value of credit notes issued post 31st March for supplies from previous financial year. These credit notes should have been reflected in annual return Form GSTR-9.

You can get this value in two different ways:

First method, go to GSTR-1 report in TallyPrime and change the period to April ’18 to September ’18. Export the report to the GSTR-1 excel template. Open the exported data, check the sheets cdnr and cdnur. Filter for C in the Document Type column. From the filtered list, identify the invoices with original invoice date from previous financial year. Enter the sum of invoice totals of all the credits identified.

If there are amendments to these transactions the value from the amended invoice should be considered. You will get the amendment details in the filed GSTR-1.

Trade Discounts accounted for in the audited Annual Financial Statement but are not permissible under GST

Displays the trade discount accounted for in the audited financial statement, on which GST was leviable (being not permissible).

To get this value, Profit & Loss A/c in TallyPrime and change the period to Apr ’17 to Mar ’18. Identify the accounts created for trade discount and post sale discount under the direct /indirect expense groups on which GST has not been reversed.

Turnover from April 2023 to June 2023

Displays the turnover included in the audited financial statement for April ’17 to June ’17.

Go to Profit & Loss A/c and change the period to Apr ’17 to Jun ’17. Identify all the accounts under Sales Accounts and Direct/indirect income groups. Enter the sum of closing balances of these groups.

Displays the unbilled revenue recorded in the books as per accrual basis in previous financial year and GST not payable in the same year.

To get this value, go to Profit & Loss A/c report in TallyPrime and change the period to Apr ’17 to Mar ’18. Select the account created for unbilled revenue and drill down. From the Ledger Monthly Summary report, enter the grand total of Credit column.

In the Vouchers Accepted with Original Values report, press F12 (Configure) and select the options Taxable Value Modified and Taxable value/Rate modified in the Filter the vouchers by potential reason. Enter the sum of the values of the filtered transactions.”
