Internet Explorer 12 Release Gets Closer: Many Upcoming Features Revealed by Microsoft
Internet Explorer 11 represents a huge step forward over previous editions, some of which have actually been creating big security risks for the users, but many Windows users are looking forward to the release of Internet Explorer 12, which is said to come with plenty of awesome features. And now Microsoft has decided that it’s about time they’d give us a sneak peek. Here’s what Microsoft said:
The current list of features “in development” is not an exhaustive representation of what we will deliver in the next version, but an indication of what we currently have highest confidence in delivering. There are several other features that we realize are very important and are working on a plan to support
There are quite a lot of upcoming features enlisted on the official website, but we’ve “translated” the technical language and here are the most important ones, along with possible launches:

These are features that have been confirmed and we know that they are in development and will make their way for sure in Internet Explorer 12. But this doesn’t mean these are all of them.
Open Sourced – thanks to many developers who expressed their interest in contributing to the project, Microsoft has decide to make the entire site and even the data that backs it, available on GitHub under the Apache V2 license.
Improved Search & Filter: thanks to the new upcoming “Interop” menu, it will be much easier to enter in your browser support interests to find available features
Deep Linking – thjs concerns developers and lets them enable a deep link to a feature you want to share with others thanks to HTML5 History and Angular routing
Better Mobile Support & Performance – mobile is the hottest word right now and it comes as no surprise for Microsoft to improve this aspect. Around 20% of IE visitors have come from mobile devices and that number is going to increase even more with the rise of smartphones and tablets. Microsoft will further optimized it to make it faster and easily adaptable to all kinds of screens.
Media Capture API – this features enables for the web content to manipulate audio and video streams from microphones and webcams. Cortana on Windows 8 desktop, anyone?
HTTP/2 – this is a major revision of the Web’s protocol and is aimed at decreasing the wait time spent loading web pages. And this is probably the most expected feature of them all for many of us. The major revampe is based on Google’s SPDY open networking protocol and is currently being standardized by the IETF.
HTML 5 improvements – Microsoft also said that it will also focus on improving security and backwards capability and interoperability thanks to the latest HTML5 features.
HTTP Strict Transport Security – this is an upcoming security feature that helps prevent “man-in-the-middle attacks” on secure connections. In simpler words, this prevents against certain hacker attacks and is a feature which Chrome and Firefox browsers have long supported.
And here are some more smaller upcoming features (which make some sense to most of us) that we’ve extracted from the entire list:
Content Security Policy
Allows you to create an allow list of sources of trusted content, and instructs the browser to only execute or render resources from those sources.
Gives JS access to a game controller via USB.
Media Capture and Streams
Provides access to the user’s local audio and video input/output devices (getUserMedia API).
WebGL Instancing Extension
A way to use the GPU to quickly draw a lot of copies of a single object. In some scenes (like a forest with a lot of trees) it is a great way to get a huge performance improvement. Requires a compatible GPU.
Cross-Domain Font Loading
Increases interoperability with the web by relaxing domain and licensing metadata restrictions for EOT, WOFF, and TrueType fonts.
Gives access to raw mouse movement, locks the target of mouse events to a single element, eliminates limits of how far mouse movement can go in a single direction, and removes the cursor from view. Obvious use cases are for first person or real time strategy games.

New features include:
Custom notifications about performance and status changes.
More data about fluctuations in campaign performance.
Here’s an overview of each of these updates.Custom Notifications
Advertisers can now use the Google Ads mobile app to set custom notifications about things that are important to them.
In this example provided by Google you can see how the app has been set to send a notification when conversion volume goes up by more than 10%.
To set a custom notification, first go to the Settings page and opt in to notifications if you haven’t already.
Then tap on custom notifications to set up your own alerts. These can be adjusted at any time.Performance Insights
In addition, the app will send real-time notifications when significant changes are detected in any of these newly added performance insights.
The notification will explain why the change occurred, and Google Ads may offer a recommendation to help resolve the issues.
These updates are now available in the latest version of the Google Ads mobile app on Android and iOS.Long Time, No Updates
This update follows a three month gap of no updates to the Google Ads app. Google rarely lets any of its apps go longer than a month without at least a minor update, but that has not been the case lately.
Google’s suite of apps have gone so long without updates that iOS is warning users they’re using an out of date app.
— Spencer Dailey (@SpencerDailey) February 10, 2023
Updates to Google’s apps have started to roll out over the past several days, but many are still three months out of date.
At the time of this writing apps like Google Chrome, Google Drive, Google Maps, Google Photos, and others are waiting for updates.
Apple now requires app developers to self-report on the data it collects from users and how the data is being used.
The information provided by developers is used to create a privacy “nutrition label” that users can review before downloading an app.
For example, here’s the new privacy label for the Google Ads app:
Given that Google stopped updating its apps for several months after Apple introduced these mandatory labels, some think the company is trying to skirt Apple’s rules. Again, that’s purely speculation.
Google has recently gone on record saying it has no plans to develop alternative methods of tracking users.
If Google’s recent activity is anything to go by, more of its outdated apps may receive updates in the coming days or weeks.

Over the last year, we have learned two great things about meetings and productivity. First, video calling or conferencing apps can be a lifesaver. And two, humans miss and require the physical presence of their colleagues to be at their best. Collaboration tools, such as Microsoft Teams, have done exceptionally well to give us a rewarding virtual work environment. And now, they are trying their best to make virtual life feel as close to the real thing as possible.
Teams has been releasing personal features over the course of its lifecycle, but it hadn’t paid much attention to the emojis — aka the reaction mechanism. Today, we’ll be taking a look at their most recent effort at changing the system — tell you all about Live Emojis on Microsoft Teams.

What does Live Emoji mean?
Similar to any other video calling application, Microsoft Teams always granted the option of reacting to emojis, albeit not during live video conferences. Now, with the latest update, Microsoft is making the art of reactions feel as natural as possible. You will not need to do anything to get the update, by the way. It will be an OTA update as usual and is available for free and paid users alike.

How many Live Emojis are there?
When a colleague of yours is delivering a presentation or sharing an insightful thought, it’s important to be as receptive as possible. And there’s hardly a better way of showing that you care than using an animated, live emoji. At launch, Microsoft Teams is offering four live emojis. First and foremost, there is the ‘Like’ emoji, which is the most sincere form of encouragement.
Next, you have the ‘Heart’ emoji, which is better suited for occasions when the presenter is sharing something personal or profound.
Then, you get the ‘Applause’ emoji that is perfect for presentations.
And finally, you get the ‘Laugh’ emoji, which is suitable for pretty much any lighthearted conversation.

How to use Live Emojis
Now that we’ve discussed all the different types of Live Emojis available on Microsoft Teams, let’s check out how you could use them during meetings.
Launch the Microsoft Teams desktop client on your Windows or Mac computer. Now, either join or host a meeting. At the top of the meeting window, you’ll see the Live Emoji button.
That’s all! The recipient will get to see the admiration oozing right off of you.
On mobile app
The mobile app of Microsoft Teams has also received the ability to send out Live Emojis. First, launch the Microsoft Teams mobile app on your smartphone. Now, go to the channel that’s hosting a meeting and join it. Alternatively, you could be the one to start a meeting and the live reaction system would be available to you just the same. Then, hit the ellipsis button at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
The person on the other end will see it instantaneously.
What does the ‘Hand raise’ emoji mean?
Are Live Emojis available in personal or group chat?
When you connect with a Microsoft Teams user, one-on-one, you do not get the option to send Live Emojis. We believe Microsoft understands that Live Emojis are more productive when multiple people are involved, not a single user where we have the privilege of getting our points across in real-time.
Group chats, on the other hand, are fair game. Live Emojis have been cooked into the system and fit the purpose.
On mobile app
On mobile, too, you get the same Live Emoji treatment. After you join or host a meeting, tap on the ellipsis button at the bottom right corner of your screen. Now, tap on one of the four emojis at the top of the pop-up. Your Live Emoji would be deployed.
Why can’t you access Live Emojis?
Live Emojis were very recently introduced by Microsoft Teams, which means that it could take a while for all users to get access to the feature. So, if you don’t see the Live Emoji button at the top of your screen, you’ll have to wait a little longer to get it. Also, keep in mind that Live Emojis will not be available in personal one-on-one video calls.
On your mobile, you’ll need to go to the Microsoft Teams app page and check if there’s an update available. Here are the app store links for both Android and iOS clients.
As already announced, this is a minor update and won’t bring major changes. Most of the important new features have been reserved for the larger 21H2 update.
List of changes:
Windows Hello multi-camera support to allow users to choose an external camera priority when using high-end displays with integrated cameras.
Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements including optimizing document opening scenario times.
We fixed an issue that causes a one minute or more delay when you open a Microsoft Defender Application Guard (WDAG) Office document. This occurs when you try to open a file using a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path or Server Message Block (SMB) share link.
We improved Robocopy’s performance when copying files that total over 400 MB in size.
We fixed an issue that causes a WDAG container to use almost 1 GB of memory (working set) when the container is idle.
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) updating performance improvement to support remote work scenarios.
We fixed an issue that causes changes that the Active Directory (AD) administrator makes to user or computer group membership to propagate slowly. Although the access token eventually updates, these changes do not appear when the administrator uses gpresult /r or gpresult /h to create a report.Windows 10 version 2004 update is finally available for everyone
Microsoft very gradually rolled out the largest update of its operating system last year – the May update of Windows 10 (version 2004).
And only now, 8 months after the release; Microsoft announced that the Windows 10 May 2023 Update is finally ready for “widespread deployment.”Gizchina News of the week
Microsoft initially didn’t provide Windows 10 May 2023 Update for all PCs. This version ended up with a long list of recognized issues; and the company blocked propagation to systems with certain parameters. Despite all the limitations, users faced Blue Screens of Death for a variety of reasons; refusing to work with the Google Chrome browser and other similar troubles.
Work on eliminating numerous critical failures was carried out for many months and only in January 2023; all locks and installation prohibitions were removed.
The “widespread” status also means that users can now directly install Windows 10 May 2023 Update on an earlier version of Windows 10, even if the PC has compatibility issues.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is gearing up to launch the next major update – Windows 10 21H1. We expect the release in May or June. The new Windows 10X runs smoothly and flawlessly on the Surface Pro 7
Microsoft is currently finalizing its new Windows 10X operating system, with its first release expected in 2023. Meanwhile, screenshots began to appear on the network first, and then videos showing the OS interface.
Earlier demos used a traditional keyboard and mouse, but now you can see the OS control using the touch screen.
The video quickly guides viewers through the Start menu, settings and proprietary applications; it differ from their counterparts in traditional Windows 10. It also shows multitasking and fast switching between applications.
The first single-screen Win 10X devices should launch before the end of 2023. Models with two screens should appear next year.
During the early Jurassic Period, some 200 million years ago, the only large herbivores in many ecosystems were long-necked dinosaurs called sauropodomorphs. These reptiles were the forerunners of the gargantuan sauropods, the group that included Brachiosaurus and Brontosaurus.
A well-populated breeding ground in southern Patagonia hints at one reason early sauropodomorphs were so successful: They knew how to stick together. When scientists analyzed the eggs and skeletal remains of juveniles and adults of a species known as Mussaurus patagonicus, they found that the fossils were segregated by age, suggesting that the dinosaurs raised their young as a community.
The 193-million-year-old site represents the earliest evidence of herd-living in dinosaurs, the team reported on October 21 in Scientific Reports.
The species that he and his colleagues investigated was originally discovered in Argentina’s Laguna Colorada Formation in the 1970’s. In recent years, the team has excavated dozens more Mussaurus specimens of all ages from the site. The youngsters appear to have walked on four legs before becoming bipedal as they matured. The largest adult specimen would have reached an estimated 1504.8 kilograms (about 1.7 tons) in size.
In total, the researchers examined more than 100 eggs and 80 Mussaurus skeletons from an area of about 1 square kilometer (about 0.39 square miles). The team used x-ray imaging to peer inside the eggs and confirm the embryos’ identities. To determine the juvenile dinosaurs’ ages, the researchers counted the annual growth rings visible in fine slices of leg bone under the microscope.
The fossils were found close together, in three levels within an area of reddish-brown siltstone that appears to have been a shared breeding ground, Ramezani says. He and his colleagues observed that many of the fossils were grouped by age, including several nests with clusters of eight to 30 eggs, a collection of 11 juveniles that were the same size and appeared to have died and been buried together, and adults alone or in pairs.
[Related: This Australian behemoth is officially the largest dinosaur on the continent]
“This age segregation is basically key; it tells us that this is not something like a simple family structure, being parents and juveniles together,” Ramezani says. “These are colonies of a lot of dinosaurs that are basically taking care of the young [and] the eggs together.”
The sediments found amongst the fossils indicate that the site was located near a short-lived lake, he says. The researchers speculate that the dinosaurs might have died after a long drought, then been rapidly buried in windblown dust.
Mixed in with this dust there was also some volcanic ash, which contains minute zircon crystals. These crystals have high levels of uranium that over time decays into lead. By analyzing the amounts of both elements in the crystals, Ramezani and his team were able to calculate the age of the sediments the dinosaurs were buried in. They found that the site was 193 million years old, pushing back the earliest recorded herding behavior in dinosaurs by at least 40 million years.
However, it’s likely that dinosaurs began gathering in herds to forage and care for young together even before Mussaurus appeared on the scene. This strategy may have enabled sauropodomorphs and possibly other early dinosaurs to thrive and eventually dominate ancient ecosystems, Ramezani says.
In fact, paleontologists have reported nesting colonies of other early sauropodomorphs from China and South Africa that appear to have lived around the same time.
“They have some ideas based on the rocks what the approximate ages would be, but they don’t have the exact ages,” Ramezani says. “We definitely need more information, better [estimates of] ages, to be able to put these pieces of the puzzle together and complete the picture of this social behavior.”
