Here’s What To Do Immediately
We all have been in this scenario at least once in our life. That is, we were probably drinking and working on our computer and suddenly, the unfortunate happened. But what if the same happens on a device as compact as the MacBook?
Most MacBooks today do not have a built-in fan. So, it’s pretty difficult for the water to evaporate on its own. Furthermore, we cannot wait for the mac to dry itself out and have to take certain steps to make sure that the water doesn’t reach the logic boards and the capacitors.
So, here in this guide, we have made a list of steps you can immediately take if you spilled water on your MacBook. Let’s begin!
There are a few steps you can take before you turn on your computer or call a repair center. These steps are sure to make a difference if done in the correct way. So, here is what you can do:
As soon as you spill water on your MacBook, you first have to unplug the charger from your computer. Then, remove the charger from the power outlet as well. Also, make sure that your computer is completely turned off.
This step is done to maintain your safety standards as it will not allow current flow within the computer. It shall then prevent additional damages, like a short circuit, and also ensure that you don’t get any electric shock.
However, if your touchpad is wet and unresponsive, hold down the power button until your system is completely turned off.
Similar to the step mentioned above, unplugging any connected peripherals is also a vital step to ensure that you are safe. Furthermore, doing so protects your MacBook from possible electric surges and shocks.
So, any peripherals you might have connected, such as your headphones, USBs, mice, etc should be unplugged quickly.
Now comes the most important part. You have to try and prevent as much water as possible from getting inside your Mac. More importantly, make sure that the water doesn’t reach the air vents. If it does, it can spread to reach the logic board. So, block the vent holes with a cloth or a paper towel. Paper towels, microfibre towels, cotton, etc tend to soak up and absorb water.
Wipe off and soak up any water particles from the keyboard and other external areas of your MacBook as well. Use Q-tips or a piece of cotton to soak up water from hard-to-reach places, such as your ports, and keyboard switches, among others where the water can get trapped.
A bag of rice is known to soak up water as well, however, the tiny rice residues can make their way to the logic board, and usually, these boards are not super friendly with dirt and foreign objects. Similarly, a hair dryer can be used to evaporate the water quickly, but they are known to move tiny water particles here and there and can cause it to reach dry areas of your MacBook as well.
Draining water out of the MacBook can be a tricky scenario. Depending on your MacBook’s screen type, the process is a bit different. Usually, what we can do is flip the MacBook over in a tent-like position and wait for the water trapped inside to completely drain out. However, this method works best if your computer has a non-retina display.
But, if your computer has a retina display, it’s a risky process no matter what you do. Flipping it in a tent-like position can get the water on the back side of the screen. When this happens, the water particles will be trapped inside the air pockets and you’ll not see a clear display after your computer turns on.
And if you adjust your mac in such a way that the screen lies flat on your table and the keyboard hangs outside the edge, the water will not get inside the screen. However, since you cannot pinpoint the exact reach of the water, using this trick might push the water particles onwards to the dry places.
Removing the battery exposes the logic circuit and then, you can leave it to dry for a more efficient fix.
Once you complete all the aforementioned procedures, then comes the most difficult task; waiting patiently for at least 48 hours before you turn your MacBook back on. The secret here is to let your computer air dry fully so that no moisture is left behind. This is done to prevent any extra damage in case the charges come in contact with tiny water particles.
More often than not, the process of air drying the MacBook completely provides the best outcome and shall see your MacBook turn up and working in no time.
Then finally, if you still feel like your MacBook can be repaired in a more efficient manner, it’s best you hand the matter over to a professional. There are a lot of computer repair services available that work in ‘servicing’ your computer after it has gone through its worst enemy, water.
Getting all that extra moisture out of the logic board is always a good idea to save you and your computer from any future trauma.
Unfortunately, any moisture spilled on your MacBook immediately voids your warranty. So, in such a case, the warranty doesn’t cover any costs and all the expenditure has to come out of your pocket.
That being said, if the water somehow didn’t manage to enter inside the tiny vents and into the computer, your warranty might still be active. Just make sure that there is no internal and external damage due to this cause.
So, in this case, it’ll be best if your thoroughly clean your computer after letting it air dry as mentioned above.
So, maybe you were able to recover your computer after the unfortunate. But that doesn’t mean it’ll always be protected and come back to life every time the unfortunate happens. So, it’s up to you to protect it from any future mishaps.
The best thing you could do is to keep your computer away from your food and drinks. Not only will it leave your system clean, but it’ll also prevent any chances of a drink getting spilled on your computer.
And even if you have to drink and work, make sure that your system and your drinks are on a different surface altogether. That is, keep your drink a level below your computer. So even if it gets spilled, there is no chance that the liquid will make its way to your computer.

Here’s How Fast The 2023 Macbook Pro 15 Will Be
With Apple announcing Thursday that it has dropped a 6-core 8th-gen Core i7 8750H into the MacBook Pro 15 there are two things we know for sure. The first is that the boost in performance will be huge. The second: It still won’t be faster than the fastest PC laptops.
The big news for Apple users is the six cores in the Core i7-8750H. Those two additional cores compared to quad-core parts means hefty improvements in 3D modelling, video editing, and many optimized photo editing tasks.
We compare 7th-gen and 8th-gen CPUsTo show the performance we expect, we’ve compiled the results from several laptops equipped with high-end 7th-gen CPUs, including the quad-core Core i7-7700HQ that’s used in the 2023 MacBook Pro 15. We’ll compare them to the results from a laptop with the 8th-gen Core i7-8750H in the new 2023 MacBook Pro 15.
Our first comparison runs Maxon’s Cinebench R15, which tests 3D modelling performance. You can see about a 50-percent increase in performance between the six-core Core i7-8750H and the typical 7th-gen part, such as that Core i7-7700HQ.
We won’t bore you with too many charts of the 8th-gen Core i7-8750H’s multi-threaded prowess, as you can see them in our review of it here. You’ll see varying amounts of performance gains based on how optimized the CPUs are, but the story is still the same: It’s a ton faster.
IDG
A new 8th-gen Core i7-8750H in the 2023 MacBook Pro 15 would give you about a 50-percent performance increase over the previous MacBook Pro 15 (represented by the Core i7-7700HQ-equipped laptop shown here) in multi-threaded tasks.
For example, here’s how the same CPU performs in video encoding. While you don’t get quite a 50-percent improvement, it’s still about 33 percent, which means that a comparable three-hour encode could be done in about two hours. When you’re in the field on a shoot, and time is money, then yeah, that’s more money.
IDG
Handbrakes sees about a 33-percent buff by going from a 7th-gen Core i7 to an 8th-gen Core i7.
IDG
For the most part, the new 8th-gen Core i7 still gives decent performance benefits over the older 7th-gen Core i7 CPUs.
IDG
Thanks to very high clock speeds when given lightly threaded tasks such as browsing or Microsoft Word, the 8th-gen Core i7 Coffee Lake H CPU in the new MacBook Pro 15 will be faster than its direct predecessor.
What we do know from previous MacBook Pro laptops is that Apple generally does not like to leave performance untapped, so we expect it to swing for the fences.
IDG
The PC is still faster than MacBook Pro 15So after seeing everything above, how can we say for a fact that the new 2023 MacBook Pro 15 won’t be faster than PC laptops? For one thing, PCs offer larger form factors that let the 8th-gen CPUs run even faster. Also, the graphics in the new 2023 MacBook Pro 15 haven’t changed much.
Apple is apparently still relying on the elderly AMD Radeon Pro lineup for graphics. In the single laptop our sister site Macworld saw, the unit had a Radeon Pro 555X in it. Despite the X, it’s the same old thing. AMD just added the ‘X’ to make everyone feel better. It’s actually a decent discrete GPU, but in pure performance, it’s not going to win any contests beyond tasks heavily optimized for it.
IDG
The Radeon Pro 555X in the new 2023 MacBook Pro 15 should fall below that of the Kaby Lake G-series of chips in the HP Spectre x360 15. That’s not bad, but it ain’t no GeForce GTX 1080.
Let’s give Apple a shout-outWhile it’s easy for PC partisans to issue a Simpsons’ Nelson Muntz-like “ha ha,” we should be fair and give Apple its due credit. Even with its flawed keyboard, the MacBook Pro 15 has been an impressively thin laptop with relatively good battery life for its power ratio.
And yes, PC laptops have been using 8th-gen Core i7 CPUs for more than three months now. But to have Apple upgrade the MacBook Pro 15 to a CPU that came out just three months ago, rather than dragging it out for another six or nine months, is actually a huge improvement in responsiveness from the company.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s entirely possible that Apple may have finally woken up, which means PC laptop makers may finally see their old slumbering foe for another fight.
Experiment: We Spent $345 On Spark Ads On Tiktok. Here’s What Happened
We were curious ourselves, so we did a little experiment. Check out our results below, along with our top takeaways to inform your own strategy.
Bonus: Get a free TikTok Growth Checklist from famous TikTok creator Tiffy Chen that shows you how to gain 1.6 million followers with only 3 studio lights and iMovie.
Methodology
A unique feature of Spark Ads is that you can not only use your own organic content — you can also promote posts by other creators (like user-generated content), as long as you have permission. This allows businesses to leverage positive word-of-mouth from influencers and customers, and saves them the effort of creating an ad themselves.
If you’re using your own content, Spark Ads have another benefit. Unlike regular In-Feed Ads, the engagement generated by Spark Ads is attributed back to the original post, which extends the reach of your content and gives your channel’s engagement metrics a lift.
We decided to test two Spark Ads with different objectives. One ad was focused on community interactions, with the goal of driving more users to our profile. Our other ad objective was video views.
Our goal for these campaigns was the same: we wanted to see how leveraging our top-performing content could help us reach a wider audience and grow our community.
Here’s a breakdown of each campaign.
Ad Campaign 1: Video ViewsBudget: $150 USD
Campaign length: 3 days
Audience: We kept it as broad as possible, including male and female users of all ages and all regions.
Ad Campaign 2: Community InteractionsBudget: $195 USD
Campaign length: 3 days
Audience: Same as above.
Results
Overall, we saw solid results from both campaigns. While they both performed pretty well, our Video Views campaign had an edge. Here’s a breakdown of how the two campaigns compared across the same metrics.
ResultAd Campaign 1: Video ViewsAd Campaign 2: Community Interactions
Impressions54.3k41.1k
Video Views51.2k ($0.002 per view)43.2k ($0.004 per view)
New Followers45 ($3.33 per new follower)6 ($31.66)
Likes416 ($0.36 per like)362 ($0.54 per like)
And here’s a breakdown on how each campaign performed, based on its target outcomes:
Ad Campaign 1: Video ViewsThe majority of our ad budget was spent on users aged 13-17, who had the most impressions and the lowest cost across the metrics we tracked. On average, users watched our video for 7.65 seconds. Our ad performed equally well among women and men, and we had the most impressions from users in Canada, the UK, and the USA.
Although video views were the goal of the campaign, we saw a nice boost to our followers and likes. As you can see from the table above, this campaign generated almost eight times as many new followers as the Community Interactions campaign. We also received 466 profile visits.
While this is just one experiment, it’s a reminder that the best way to win over audiences is through exceptional content. Spark Ads allow you to get your best-performing videos in front of more people, prompting them to follow you if they like what they see.
Ad Campaign 2: Community InteractionsWhat Makes a Great TikTok Spark Ad?
Relatable. Content that will resonate with your audience and feels authentic and genuine. This is where it pays off to truly understand your social media audience.
Inspirational. Content that demonstrates mastery of valuable skills. What does your audience care about? What are their ambitions? For Hootsuite, these are social media managers and professionals looking to hone their skills.
Informative. The best content does more than just entertain, or help someone kill a few minutes as they’re waiting for their toast to pop. Focus on content that has valuable insights, like tutorials or helpful tips.
5 Top Takeaways from Spending $350 on TikTok Spark Ads
1. TikTok Ads offer bang for your buck compared to other networksThis finding is backed up by our Social Trends 2023 report. We surveyed 14,850 marketers, who reported that Instagram and Facebook had become less effective between 2023 and 2023. Meanwhile, TikTok is being perceived as increasingly valuable — with a 700% increase in marketers describing it as effective for reaching their business goals in 2023.
2. You don’t need to spend a lot to see resultsTikTok Spark Ads are great for businesses who are just figuring out their ad budget, because they allow you to give your best-performing organic content a boost. This is one of the most reliable ad strategies, since you’ve already tested the content with your current audience.
That brings us to our next takeaway…
3. ABC (Always Be Calibrating)For this experiment, we didn’t put too much thought behind the campaigns we chose. We just went with recent content that performed well. But a smarter strategy is testing short campaigns with different content and target audiences to see what drives the strongest results. With each iteration, your ad strategy improves.
4. Experiment with different objectivesTikTok Spark Ads offer a number of different objectives that you can choose from for your campaign. It’s worth testing them out as you calibrate your ad strategy, in order to figure out which ones yield the best results.
We noticed that both our campaigns had positive outcomes beyond their designated objective: our Community Interactions campaign generated video views, and our Video Views campaign generated a surprising number of followers and likes.
That said, an ad campaign is only successful if it supports your business goals. Don’t get too carried away by vanity metrics that don’t translate into conversions or meaningful customer engagement.
5. You’ll learn something from each campaignWhile we’re labeling this experiment a success, a reminder that even a so-so result is informative. If your ad campaign falls flat, you have the opportunity to learn from it and try something different next time: fresh creative, a different target audience, a new objective.
Bonus: Get a free TikTok Growth Checklist from famous TikTok creator Tiffy Chen that shows you how to gain 1.6 million followers with only 3 studio lights and iMovie.
Do it better with Hootsuite, the all-in-one social media tool. Stay on top of things, grow, and beat the competition.

What To Do If Your App Icons Are Invisible On Iphone
If you recently unlocked your iPhone to see that some of your app icons are invisible, as if they haven’t fully loaded, you may worry that there is something very wrong with your phone. There is, but it can be fixed. Invisible app icons are a symptom of low storage space.
The thing is, if this is the case for you, you would have been getting low storage warnings for a while now. If you ignore them long enough, you can end up with a phone that can’t function properly. In this article, we’ll tell you how you can fix this problem and get your iPhone’s app icons back.
If only a few seldomly used apps have disappeared, your iPhone simply may have offloaded those apps. If this is the case, you can disable “Offload Unused Apps.”
How to fix low storage causing missing app icons 1. Backup your iPhone iCloudIf you don’t already use iCloud, consider getting it. It can help you save a significant amount of space on your iPhone. Plus, it makes backing up your phone super easy (it’s automatic). The current monthly prices in the U.S. are 50GB for $0.99, 200GB for $2.99 and 2TB for $9.99.
To backup using iCloud:

Biden Signs Executive Order On Crypto: Here’s What It Means For Nfts
The U.S. government seems to have begun its crackdown on crypto. Today (March 9), President Joe Biden signed an executive order to begin a governmental examination of the potential risks and benefits of cryptocurrency.
To date, the U.S. government has failed to align itself under a unified approach to cryptocurrencies. But with this executive order, the government has taken the first steps towards establishing a comprehensive national policy for digital assets. According to a White House fact sheet, the measure introduced today contains directives focused on six key areas: consumer protection, financial stability, illicit activity, U.S. competitiveness, financial inclusion, and responsible innovation.
But what does that mean for NFTs?
It’s true that NFTs are a type of token and aren’t the same as a cryptocurrency. However, NFTs live as digital assets on the blockchain, and they are purchased, sold, and valued — almost exclusively — using crypto. As a result, this executive order will have a significant impact on the community. Of course, the executive order will undoubtedly have a more notable impact on crypto markets. But here, we’re focussing on the measures listed within the executive order that relate to NFTs specifically.
For those who are interested, a full synopsis of the executive order can be viewed via the White House website. Now let’s dive in.
NFTs and consumer protectionWith the order, the Department of the Treasury is directed to work with necessary agencies to develop policy recommendations that “address the implications of the growing digital asset sector and changes in financial markets for consumers, investors, businesses, and equitable economic growth.” In other words, the department needs to assess the impact that crypto has and create frameworks to monitor and regulate this impact.
This will likely have the largest impact on consumers.
The NFT space has been riddled with scams, and a serious lack of accountability continues to plague collectors. Consumer protections will likely mean widespread changes for all within the NFT ecosystem, but especially as it relates to the anonymity that, to date, many creators have enjoyed. This could bring in new forms of accountability that end up benefitting collectors. But of course, only time will tell whether these changes will be overwhelmingly beneficial or detrimental to the NFT ecosystem.
We will also likely see a number of official legal definitions enter the space as well. This is because the government will need to determine how it distinguishes artists, collectors, and project builders in relation to traditional legal definitions like consumers, investors, and businesses.
NFTs and financial stabilityIn the eyes of the U.S. government, an asset is any resource with economic value that is expected to provide a future benefit to its holder. NFTs are a type of digital asset, and many NFT traders have accrued a decent profit using these assets.
In truth, that’s a bit of an understatement. The total NFT sales volume went from $94.9 million to over $23 billion in just over a year, and many individuals have raked in millions. But with ups, there are always downs. This can wreak havoc on economies and cause many businesses and individuals significant losses.
With this measure, Biden is encouraging the Financial Stability Oversight Council to identify and mitigate systemic financial risks posed by digital assets, aka crypto and NFTs. Although this measure is directed towards global financial stability, it likely means new policy to address any regulatory gaps, new policies to increase stability, and the possibility of additional taxation on crypto and digital assets.
Additionally, creators who commit fraud (and influencers who promote scams) may soon be reading new policies that put them in very hot water.
Illicit activity perpetrated via NFTsThe illicit activity measure hopes to address any possible national security risks posed by the illicit use of digital assets, including using NFTs for things like money laundering. With this measure, Biden likely hopes to specifically crackdown on large-scale issues like ones that resurfaced in the wake of the recent Bitfinex hack arrests. But it could also lead to new regulations focusing on NFT attacks, like the attacker who stole millions from users on OpenSea.
In order to mitigate illicit finance and national security risks, the order states that this measure will be carried out by an “unprecedented focus of coordinated action across all relevant U.S. Government agencies.” This will likely make many individuals happy. Countless people have been calling for action from the U.S., as concerns have been raised that Russia may attempt to skirt sanctions by utilizing crypto art.
Yet, while Biden’s executive order has the potential to mitigate illicit uses, it could also negatively affect the NFT ecosystem by implementing additional sanctions, like those that recently served to ban Iranian artists from accessing prominent crypto and NFT services.
NFTs and U.S. competitivenessThe U.S. competitiveness measure focuses on the U.S. solidifying a competitive edge over other countries in relation to crypto development. Specifically, the order proposes to “direct the Department of Commerce to work across the U.S. Government in establishing a framework to drive U.S. competitiveness and leadership.”
According to CNBC, crypto industry figures have been calling for such actions for some time.
Biden hopes that this framework will serve as a foundation for agencies, enabling them to integrate U.S. competitiveness as a priority into their policy when it comes to digital assets.
In this respect, the NFT community might see more governmental support, as many NFT DAOs and NFT collections contribute greatly to U.S. competitiveness.
Financial inclusion and responsible innovation in NFTsCredit: Bermix Studio
Financial inclusion and responsible innovation seem to go hand in hand with the executive order. With these measures, Biden aims to affirm the critical need for safe, affordable, and accessible financial services as a U.S. national interest.
With these measures, Biden has empowered the Secretary of the Treasury and all relevant agencies to “produce a report on the future of money and payment systems,” which comes complete with plans to explore the possibility of a digital version of the dollar.
Biden isn’t saying whether the U.S. will take an interest in launching its own digital currency, but the idea is on the table nonetheless. And although this may not immediately affect the NFT ecosystem, the U.S. government’s interest in the crypto market could significantly impact NFT prices across the board.
