On an official support page, Apple says that “AirPods Max can be connected to devices playing Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless recordings with exceptional audio quality. However, given the analog to digital conversion in the cable, the playback will not be completely lossless.” When you stream 24-bit/ 48kHz audio from Apple Music to the AirPods Max, the audio is first converted to analog and then back to the digital format. That means audio streamed via AirPods Max in the wired state does not remain fully lossless.
The story is similar for HomePod and HomePod mini. Though Apple’s smart speakers use AirPlay instead of Bluetooth to connect to devices, they can’t benefit from Apple Music’s higher bitrate audio format.
How Can AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max Support Lossless Audio?AirPods are designed to stream music using the Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) standard that maxes out at 320 kbps. Microsoft is now rolling out Windows 10 build 16188 for PCs enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider Program. In this new test version of Windows 10, part of the Redstone 3 update (version 1709) due in September, delivers a number of new features and improvements over the previous build.
Windows 10 build 16188, according to Microsoft, introduces new PDF features for Microsoft Edge. Cortana finally gets its own settings page in the Settings app, and the Magnifier settings page gets updated with a number of new options and changes.
What’s new on Windows 10 Redstone 3 (build 16188) for PC Microsoft EdgeIn this new flight, Microsoft Edge introduces a new PDF Reader with a bunch of new features, including:
PDF Form filling: You can now edit PDF forms on the web, save and print as necessary.
Viewing and navigation: Some PDF files, such as those that are scanned documents, may not have proper orientation. The new PDF Reader includes a button to rotate the document. Using the “Layout” flyout menu on the toolbar, now you can switch from one page to two page layouts and change to page-wise scrolling for a better navigation experience for longer documents.
Cortana MagnifierMicrosoft is also announcing that is improving the experience for low vision users as well as for user who casually use the Magnifier.

What’s new with desktop experience on Windows 10 November 2023 Update
These are the new desktop experience features arriving with Windows 10 version 1909.
TaskbarAs part of the new features, in this new version, Windows 10 introduces the ability to create calendar events from the taskbar without the need to open the Calendar app. The Start menu left pane will expand automatically to reveal the name of each option.
Action center and NotificationsIn Action Center, update 19H2 now shows the options to configure and turn off notifications from an app and website right on the notification, both as a banner and in Action Center.
You’ll now find a new “Manage notifications” button to the top of Action Center, which launches the main “Notifications & actions” settings page.
Start menuIn the Start menu, you won’t see a lot of changes, but hovering over the left rail will now expand the menu automatically for all users.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5Overall the Windows 10 November 2023 Update is a good feature update that anyone running the May 2023 Update should install, as this release enhances the work available in the previous version. However, it’s not a significant update, and you won’t find huge features.
If you’re already running the May 2023 Update, the November 2023 Update will be available as a minor cumulative update through Windows Update, but if you’re running the October 2023 Update or an earlier version, the upgrade process will not change, and full reinstallation of the operating system will be required.

Apple’s put its M1 chipset into everything. The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the new 24-inch iMac join the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini with the M1 chipset.
No sign of a beefier M1 Pro or Plus or whatever the next upgraded chipset might be called. But also no 27-inch iMac, implying it might be in line for a bigger specs bump.
iPad Pro:
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro got the full round of updates: along with the M1 chip comes a Thunderbolt port, 5G. a wide-angle selfie camera that tracks and follows subjects in view, and now has up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage though it is insanely expensive.
Apple now calls the updated display its Liquid Retina XDR, which is the new Mini-LED tech, coming soon to more consumer electronics.
The 11-inch iPad Pro also got the specs bump but crucially misses out on the updated display, and seems to be left out in the cold a bit.
iMac:
The 24-inch iMac was given a full revamp, the first refresh for the iMac since 2012.
It has a new thin style, new colors, four Thunderbolt ports, Ethernet in the charging brick. It starts at $1,299, and has a Touch ID keyboard accessory.
Actually it’s so thin, at 11.5mm, that it seems like Apple couldn’t fit a headphone jack on the back, as they need around 14mm of depth. Therefore, it’s sort of oddly stuck to the side.
It finally has a 1080p webcam in a Mac, something Apple touted as “its best ever” but really, really, really, should never have stuck with poor 720p webcams in its Macs this long.
Also, the bottom bezel is still pretty big, and not even one USB-A port, nor microSD port, means dongle life continues.
Apple TV 4K:
Finally given a specs bump, the new Apple TV 4K has an improved remote and A12 Bionic chip.
That’s a decent jump from 2023’s A10X, and should help with gaming at 4K.
One nice feature, Apple is shipping a calibration tool to improve the Apple TV’s color presentation on your TV, using iPhone 12 sensors, if you have an iPhone 12 handy.
The 32GB version goes for $179, $199 for 64GB.
You can also buy the new remote for $59 on its own, and it is backwards compatible, too.
Wednesday Weirdness
Just like CES each year and tech conferences around the world, auto shows tend to bring out amazing new ideas, wild new developments, and, well, concepts with varying degrees of usefulness, shall we say.

Windows 10 Build 18272 (19H1) Releases With New Features
As part of the 19H1 development, Windows 10 build 18272 is now rolling out for testers with devices enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider Program. This is the eleventh preview that Microsoft is making available, and it includes a number of new features and improvements over the last preview.
Windows 10 build 18272, according to the software giant, introduces changes to set up Windows Hello using the Settings app. The SwitfKey technology expands to more languages. The Indic Phonetic keyboards are not available for computers, and there are some new Narrator improvements.

Indic Phonetic keyboardsIn addition to the Indic Traditional INSCRIPT keyboards already available, with this flight, Windows 10 is adding Indic Phonetic keyboards for Hindi, Bangla, Tamil, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Odia, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
“How does a phonetic keyboard work? Basically, it’s a convenient way of typing that leverages the English QWERTY keyboard – as you type, we use transliteration to suggest possible Indic text candidates. For example, if you typed “namaste” using the Hindi Phonetic keyboard we would suggest नमस्ते.”
NarratorOn build 18272 and moving forward Narrator will now alert you when you’re accidentally typing with Caps Lock turned on. The setting is enabled by default. To adjust this setting, open the Narrator Settings (Ctrl + Win + N), then navigate to the “Change how much content you hear” heading and review the combo box for “Change when you receive Caps Lock warnings while typing”.
Additional changesAlongside the new features and improvements, Windows 10 build 18272 includes a few additional smaller changes. For example, the “Forget” option for Wi-Fi profiles is now available for standard users.
Ctrl + Mouse Wheel Scroll to zoom in text is now supported in Command Prompt, PowerShell and Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
When using dark system theme, the scrollbars for Command Prompt, PowerShell and WSL will now become dark as well.
The options to change your default app mode and enable or disable transparency have moved to the top of the “Colors” settings page to make it easier to find.
