Windows Phone 7 official: Oct 21 in Europe, Nov 7 in North America

Microsoft is holding its Windows Phone 7 events in NYC and London today, but we already know the two most important dates for the new smartphone platform.  Windows Phone 7 will launch in Europe on October 21st 2010, and then in North America the following month, on November 7th.

We’ve already heard from HTC that the smartphone manufacturer is enthusiastic about Windows Phone 7’s potential; more so than the carriers might be, even, since HTC tells us they’re building more WP7 handsets than the operators actually think they’ll sell.  We’ll have hands-on with the various Windows Phone 7 devices today as the Microsoft events pan out.

Go Green And Save Energy With Power Options In Windows 7

Does Power Options in Windows 7 can really help to save energy? Short answer, yes! We are in a time where saving energy is very important and every little bit helps. With Windows 7 you can accomplish better battery life in portable devices, and you can also save a good amount of energy on desktop computers by properly configuring the Power Options. This is great for the environment and you will be saving some money too.

In this article, we are going to talk about how to select, customize and create power plans, the difference between Windows 7 Sleep States, and also how to generate an energy report that help to troubleshoot common energy-efficiency and battery problems. Plus additional tips to help you optimize the computer energy consumption.

How to select a power plan Customizing a power plan

As you can see in the Edit Plan Settings page, here you will be able to adjust power settings when the computer is on battery and as well when it’s plugged in. Turn off the display and Put the computer to sleep options will be available for portable and desktop computers, while Dim the display and Adjust plan brightness, will be only available in portable computers.

The computer display along with the video card are some of the components that will consume a large amount of power. To optimize the battery usage you can try these settings:

Dim the display leave the default, 1 minute.

Turn off the display set it to 5 min or less.

Put the computer to sleep after 7 to 15 mins.

Adjust plan brightness, this is very important, the display brightness will drain the battery faster when is set too high, and it can also be bad for your eyes. Low the brightness of the display as much as you can, but not to the point where you have to force your eyes to read.

All these settings will switch on to the specify time when you are away from the computer.

How long the computer has to idle before turning the hard drive off.

Change the power settings for your wireless adapter.

Battery behavior.

Multimedia settings.

Disable hybrid sleep and many more.

How to create a power plan

Having the ability to create your own power plan is a good idea. For example: If you spend time in different places and they have different room light, you can create power plans to adapt the computer display brightness to each environment lighting, or if you often give presentations in your company, you can create a power plan to NOT turn the display off or stop the computer from going to sleep.

4. Now the new power plan is created. If you want to add more customization, look again the customizing a power plan.

Tip: If you need to prevent the computer display from turning off, change the setting to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in.

What is the difference between the Sleep States

In Windows 7 you have the option Choose what the power buttons do, which allows to specify the action to take when someone presses the power, sleep button, or close the lid (Do Nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shutdown).

So, What is the difference between them?

First, if you select the Sleep option Windows 7 by default will use hybrid sleep, which means, that this is a combination of sleep and hibernation. All your work and programs in memory will be copied to the hard drive and then the computer will go to a low-power state. This option is safer in case of a power failure occurs, Windows can restore your work from the hard drive without losing any data.

Do Nothing – No actions will be taken.

Sleep – Sets your computer into low-power state, which also allows to fast resume.

Hibernate – Saves everything (documents and programs) in memory to the hard drive and then the computer will shutdown. When you turn your computer back on your session will be restore.

Shutdown – Closes any running program and shuts Windows completely.

The setting that you select in this page will be applied to all power plans.

How to analyze computer’s common energy-efficiency and battery problems in Windows 7

In the geek side, Windows 7 provide a great command-line tool to work with the power options, one of them is the ability to generate a report to understand or troubleshoot common energy-efficiency and battery problems.

You should use the powercfg  -ENERGY command when the computer is idle and not programs or documents are open.

Even more tips that can help to save energy

If you are serious on going green, saving energy or getting the most laptop’s battery, you can also try:

Disable Windows 7 Aero glass effect. Go to Start  type Personalization and under Basic and High Contrast Themes, select Windows 7 Basic.

Turn off your wireless adapter when is not needed.

Close applications and Windows Gadgets that are not needed.

Try not to watch full-screen videos or avoid watching videos at all, when you don’t have a power source nearby and you need to get work done.

Disable screen saver, instead configure the computer display to turn off to a very short time.

Do not use full color wallpapers, instead opt for solid colors wallpapers, dark colors are preferable, black being the best choice.

Keep your computer up to date (Windows Update and Device Drivers). If there is a bug in that could be causing energy efficiency problems, there could be a fix for it.

Defrag your computer regularly, to keep things speedy.

Have an antivirus software that it is also up to date, and perform a full virus scan regularly. Viruses can slow down your computer, making it work harder.

Disable devices that are not needed. Enabled devices consume energy even if you are not using them (Bluetooth or infrared, build in modem, etc.).

Unplug peripherals that you are not using, like USB powered devices (external hard drives and portable media devices).

Hibernate the computer, remember that this option saves all your work to the hard drive and when you turn it back on it will restore your session where you left off.

Keep the computer clean of dust as much as you can, and do not leave it in places with poor air circulation, to avoid over heating.

Keep in mind that while a lot of these tips are more suited for laptops, you can still use most of this on a desktop computer too.

7 Cool New Tricks In Ios 10

Apple has been rolling out Public (and Developer) Betas of iOS 10 for a while now, and with every new iteration, there are some changes. While most of these changes are bug fixes from previous betas, or design changes based on (what I think is) user feedback, some of the changes are great new features.

1. Emergency Bypass in Contacts

We all know that feeling when we pull out our phone after a long time of it being on “Do not Disturb”, only to find about a million missed calls from our parents, usually followed by a mini heart attack. Well, someone at Apple’s software department obviously didn’t want to let their kids use the “my phone was set to do not disturb” excuse, the next time they failed to answer a call, and the result in iOS 10, is an option to enable Emergency Bypass on a per-contact basis.

If you have enabled Emergency Bypass for a particular contact, your iPhone will ring for calls from that number, even if your iPhone was set to Do not Disturb. No more excuses, guys.

1. Go to the Contacts app, and select the contact that you want to enable Emergency Bypass for.

2. Tap on “Edit” on the top right.

3. Go to “Ringtone” options.

4. Enable “Emergency Bypass”.

2. Annotate Videos and Photos in iMessages

iMessage is getting some really cool features in iOS 10, making it a competitor against more popular (and cross-platform) apps such as WhatsApp and Snapchat, each of which have their own set of sweet tricks up their sleeves. We have covered WhatsApp and Snapchat tricks earlier.

Among the plethora of changes coming to iMessage, one that definitely stands out is the ability to annotate videos and photos. A feature that Snapchat has boasted of for a long time. Annotated videos and photos make it easier to draw attention to particular parts of a video/photo and are fun, either way.

1. Open “Messages” on your iPhone.

2. Open the conversation where you want to send an annotated Video/Photo.

3. Tap the gray arrow on the left of the text box.

5. This will open a small screen where you can tap and send digital touch messages from. Tap on the “disclosure” arrow on the bottom right.

6. Tap on the video icon on the bottom left, to enable camera.

8. You can now annotate the image using any of the colours available in the palette on the top.

Cool Fact: The annotation on the image animates when the receiver opens the message.

Annotating videos in iMessages is very similar, except that the annotation has to be done while you are recording the video. Read through the steps below to get an idea of how this works:

1. Open “Messages” on your iPhone.

2. Open the conversation where you want to send an annotated Video/Photo.

4. Select the Digital Touch Message button (it’s shaped like a heart).

5. This will open a small screen where you can tap and send digital touch messages from. Tap on the “disclosure” arrow on the bottom right.

6. Tap on the video icon on the bottom left, to enable camera.

7. Tap the record button to start recording a video.

I can’t attach a video clip here, and iMessages doesn’t save the video to Photos, so I can’t really convert it to a GIF either, but here are two successive screenshots that show how the video plays while the annotation animates on it.

3. Add Stickers to Messages Sent/Received Previously

Another really cool change to iMessage that many might not be aware of, is that you can overlay stickers to messages (text, photos etc) that have already been sent. You can also overlay stickers onto received messages. That’s definitely something!

While this might be seen as a novelty feature, it sure could be fun. Warning: in excessive amounts, this feature becomes addictive enough that you will keep doing this on every message, potentially annoying the recipient, while also throwing your productivity at work down a cliff.

Follow the steps below, to try this feature out for yourself:

2. Tap on the gray arrow on the left of the text box.

3. Select the “App Store” icon.

If you don’t already have a stickers pack downloaded on your iPhone, tap on the four ellipses on the bottom left, tap on the plus icon labelled “Store” and download one of the sticker packs.

4. Tap and hold on a sticker and simply drag and drop it on the message that you want to overlay it on.

Bonus: You can add as many stickers onto a single message as you want, until the space on the message bubble runs out.

4. Edit Numbers Before Dialling

One of the most annoying quirks of the phone app on the iPhone, was that while dialling a number, if you made a mistake, you had to delete all the numbers that succeeded it, in order to get to, and replace it. iOS 10 finally fixes this. You can now edit numbers in the dialler in the same way that you can edit text in any text box.

Simply tap and hold on the number, and you will get the familiar lens view, magnifying the text immediately under your finger. Slide your finger left or right to adjust the cursor and edit the phone number, the way you should always have been able to. Finally, thanks Apple.

5. Color Filters in Accessibility

The accessibility tab inside settings finally has Display Accommodations settings that can make it easier for colour blind people to use their iPhones. The colour filters also have a greyscale setting, that I think might save some battery on your iPhone, if you can live with the tradeoff of an absolutely black and white screen on your iPhone.

6. Close all Tabs in Safari

Closing tabs in Safari has always been a pain. Especially if you tend to open an extremely large number of tabs. Swiping them all out can get quickly tedious and boring. However, iOS 10 finally implements a method to close all Safari tabs in just two taps.

2. The context menu that comes up, now has an option to “Close all Tabs“.

7. Export Safari Pages to PDFs

Safari also has a new feature that allows you to quickly export webpages opened in Safari to PDF files, that you can share using any valid sharing method.

1. Open the webpage in Safari.

2. Tap on the Share button.

3. From the options, select “Print”.

4. In the Printer Options page, perform the zoom in gesture using two fingers on the preview of the webpage.

5. Tap on the Share icon in the bottom left.

6. You can now share the PDF directly using any of the available options, or you can save the PDF to iCloud Drive.

Plenty of Welcome Changes in iOS 10

All in all, I found more than a hundred new features and changes in iOS 10. Needless to say, iOS 10 might just be the biggest (and quite possibly the best) update to iOS in the last few years, when it comes out, this fall. Yes, there are a few design changes that I personally don’t like, but that’s true for any major update to basically any major operating system.

All 7 Susanoo Users In Naruto (Ranked)

Although Chakra is the core power system in the Naruto manga and anime series, some characters possess additional powerful abilities in the story. One such impressive ability is possessed by Sharingan users. If you haven’t guessed already, it’s the rare and fascinating Susanoo technique that makes the Uchiha clan members in Naruto so powerful. This ultimate ability can be activated by those with Sharingan in both eyes and comes in various types and colors depending on the user. When we first saw the allure of Susanoo in the anime, it quickly became a fan favorite. That said, in this article, we have ranked every Susanoo user in Naruto on the basis of their strength. So, let’s check out the strongest Susanoo users in the anime series.

Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers about characters in Naruto and Sharingan and Susanoo users. We suggest you watch the anime or read the manga to avoid ruining your experience.

Note: As fans might know, there are various variations of Susanoo for each Sharingan user. However, we have only added the final powerful versions of every Susanoo while ranking the users on our list. We have also included the various kinds of Susanoo that the respective users have had over time.

1. Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Shippuden Episode 468 (Anime-only)

Variations: Complete Body Susanoo

Primary Color: Light Blue

Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, popularly known as the “Sage of Six Paths,” is the strongest Susanoo user we have seen to date. Rightfully known as the forefather of Shinobi, he had a gigantic Susanoo figure in its complete body form.

Once again, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki is considered to be the most powerful Susanoo user by Naruto fans, even though it was shown only in the anime.

2. Sasuke Uchiha

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Shippuden Episode 210, Manga Chapters 478

Variations: Skeletal Body, Humanoid, Armored, Complete Body Susanoo and Indra Susanoo

Primary Color: Purple (Anime), Dark Blue (Manga)

Sasuke Uchiha, the current Shadow Hokage of the Konoha, is the only person to have five different forms of Susanoo. His Susanoo had a Skeletal Body, Humanoid, Armored, Complete Body, and Indra Susanoo. All these variants came with distinct weapons, including swords, bow & arrows, etc. These weapons can then be imbued with black flames (Amaterasu) and lightning, making them more powerful. Sasuke further enhanced the powers of his Susanoo with the help of his Rinnegan.

Sasuke’s Perfect Susanoo also had wings that enabled him to fly. In Indra form, Sasuke could create deadly attacks with his bow and arrow to obliterate enemies. In the complete body form, Sasuke was able to generate his signature moves — Great Fireball Technique and Chidori — using the weapons as a medium.

Sasuke is godly with his mighty Susanoo forms and has all the qualities to surpass Hagoromo as the strongest Susanoo user of all time in the Naruto-verse.

3. Madara Uchiha

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Shippuden Episode 339, Manga Chapters 588-590

Variations: Skeletal Body, Humanoid, Armored, and Complete Body Susanoo

Primary Color: Dark Blue

These swords are so powerful that they can slice up large mountains into pieces. Madara always stayed OP as the most powerful Uchiha to ever exist and achieved various feats with this Susanoo. He was capable of creating clones of himself that can use Susanoo as well as he can incorporate his Susanoo with the Nine-Tailed Beast (Kurama).

The iconic scene of Madara vs the five Kages will always be remembered by the fans and will keep on reminding us that Madara was truly a monster with his Susanoo powers.

4. Kakashi Hatake/ Obito Uchiha

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Shippuden Episode 473, Manga Chapters 688,689

Variations: Complete Body Susanoo

Primary Color: Light Blue

Out of all the Susanoos on this list, the most surprising and unexpected Susanoo form in the anime has to be Kakashi’s. The climax of the Naruto Shippuden series (see Naruto Shippuden filler list) was shaping up to be an amazing ride and Kakashi’s Susanoo was like a cherry on top of the cake.

Technically, this Susanoo can be called both Kakashi and Obito’s since the latter lent his Sharingan powers to Kakashi to awaken the said Susanoo. Kakashi’s Susanoo was a Complete Body form and had a unique ability up its sleeves. Its appearance was more similar to that of Kakashi and even had a scar similar to Kakashi’s iconic scar.

5. Itachi Uchiha

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Shippuden Episode 138, Manga Chapters 391-393

Variations: Skeletal Body, Humanoid, Armored, and Complete Body Susanoo (Game-Only)

Primary Colors: Red and Orange (Anime), Yellow (Manga)

While Itachi is the reason for the Uchiha Clan’s perishment, he was also the Shadow Hokage who had to do it in order to protect his village. Itachi is one of the most powerful Uchiha to ever live, and he deservedly had one of the strongest Susanoos on his side.

It’s unfortunate for us fans that we didn’t get a Complete Body Susanoo (due to his early death) from a great legend like Itachi. But we have seen the Skeletal Body, Humanoid, and Armored versions of his Susanoo in the show. Even without a perfect Susanoo, Itachi’s Susanoo was considered to be invincible and untouchable. Each version was sufficiently powerful, but Itachi’s Susanoo in Naruto was nothing short of amazing in the final armored version.

It also possessed the Sword of Totsuka (in its right hand), an exquisite sword that can not only cut opponents but also can trap those who got slashed in a “genjutsu-like world of inebriated fantasies forever.” In the left hand, it had an impenetrable shield named Yata Mirror. This shield could change its nature depending on the attack it encountered and render it into a void. You can now understand why Itachi was considered invincible. Just imagine how much powerful Itachi would have been with his Perfect Susanoo.

6. Indra Otsutsuki

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Shippuden Episode 168 (Anime-only)

Variations: Skeletal Body, Complete Body Susanoo

Primary Color: Purple

Indra Ōtsutsuki is the son of the all-father Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki. And just like his dad, he also had one of the strongest Susanoo powers at his disposal. Indra was more like how Sasuke is now, and they both share some uncanny similarities. Indra started out with a Skeletal body Susanoo and made it all the way to a Complete Body Susanoo (without even having an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan). Both of these forms were strikingly similar to Sasuke’s Susanoo variations.

We don’t know about the exact powers of Indra’s Susanoo. But it is a Complete Body Susanoo, which tells a lot about the powerful qualities it might possess. We have ranked him lower on this list as we don’t know his Susanoo’s true and complete powers.

7. Shisui Uchiha

Image Courtesy – Naruto by Pierrot Animation Studios (Fandom)

Debut: Naruto Storm Revolution (Game-only)

Variations: Humanoid, Complete Body Susanoo

Primary Color: Dark Green

We were not able to see the renowned Shisui Uchiha’s Susanoo in the anime. Yet, the author Kishimoto designed a special Susanoo for him in one of the Naruto games. For this very reason, many fans consider this power as a canon and part of the story. Surely, a powerful guy like Shisui would have mastered the Susanoo.
