Subscribers who purchase the HBO add-on through Hulu will also gain access to HBO NOW through their Hulu account.  Additional live channels HBO 2, HBO Family, HBO Latino, HBO Comedy, HBO Signature HD, HBO Zone, MoreMAX HD, ActionMAX HD, ThrillerMAX HD, MovieMAX HD, 5StarMAX HD and OuterMAX HD will become available within the add-ons to Hulu viewers in the coming weeks.

Hulu’s recently-unveiled user experience is currently available on Apple TV (4thgen.), Xbox One, iOS and Android mobile devices. The add-ons will be available on more devices as the new user experience continues to roll out across additional major platforms this summer.

47 Meters Down

eOne

Everyone loves a good shark attack movie, and 47 Meters down is one of the better entries in this horror sub-genre. There is a plot about two sisters who want to go cage diving in Mexico. They run into some trouble when the cable holding the cage breaks and they drop fast to the ocean floor. Can they escape, while also avoid being eaten by the many, many great white sharks that are swimming around the cage? Stream it on Hulu to find out.

Parasite

Censor

Lionsgate

This recent UK horror film is one of the best scary movies on Hulu. It’s set in the mid-1980s, and tells the tale of a woman who works the British Board of Film Classification. She looks at movies and recommends edits to remove any major violent content. One day, she looks at a horror movie that seems to have a plot that’s similar to the real disappearances of this woman’s little sister years ago. She then goes on a quest to find this movie’s director to see if he knows anything about what happened to her sister. She may not like what she finds out.

He then runs into a 12-year old girl, and they become friends. Then, the murders in his small town start to pile up, and he discovers his new friend is responsible. Why? Because this young girl is also a vampire. While this film is a tad slow at times, it is highly atmospheric and, of course, very scary in many parts.

Filmrise

Former Disney Channel heartthrob Ross Lynch plays the real notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. However, the film shows what it might have been like for Dahmer in high school, before he decided to become a killer and cannibal.

Lake Placid

Lionsgate

Sometimes you can have comedy inside your horror movie, and this 1999 film is one of the best in that small subgenre. It’s basically a sendup of the Jaws franchise, except that the creature isn’t a great while shark in the deep ocean, but a massive 30-foot crocodile in a relatively small wilderness lake. It has some funny bits but it’s also one of the best scary movies on Hulu.

Oculus

However, one day she finds that her latest “possessor” is fighting back against her control.

However, he soon learns that these creatures can move and think on their own and they are not happy.

Paradoxically Speaking, Fakes Can Now Pave Way For Authenticity

2023 has ushered in the surge of deep fakes

Deep fakes are a sub-category of AI that has been subjected to endless controversies. AI experts and scientists have often deplored the idea of deep fakes as they are put to criminal uses, which can potentially destroy images of people, thereby tainting their reputation. The concept has gained much fame and popularity in 2023 and is far from being subsided. However, deep fakes are now put to positive uses such as data gathering.

The Unique Synthesis of Deep Fakes and Data Gathering

Acknowledging the fact that data gathering and data interpretation remains to be one of the crucial aspects of any successful organization, news forms of data collection methods are always experimented with. The end goal is to generate comprehensible data to form valuable insights while maintaining timeliness. Deep fakes can now be used as a wise alternative to real-world data gathering. This process is deemed as cost and time-effective. Deep fakes that are used for data dealing are termed, synthetic humans.

How are these synthetic humans made?

In order to generate a synthetic human, actual humans are scanned. These real humans are paid to step inside giant full-body scanners. The giant scanners that are powerful enough to capture every detail of the human body use their potential to create a synthetic human that cannot be distinguished from the real human. The first such synthetic human was made by an Israel-based company known as DataGen. The company collaborated with four US tech giants to provide on-demand digital humans. Synthetic humans function on a set of algorithms that are responsible for developing three-dimensional representations of a person’s body.

Synthetic data is now a panacea

Truth be told, real data is complicated and can be strenuous to deal with. On the other hand, synthetic data, generated by synthetic humans, are pristine and can create more comprehensible data sets.

7 Of The Best Metaverse Games You Can Play Right Now

The term metaverse was doing the rounds long before Facebook and Microsoft entered the fray. But the gaming industry working in the blockchain and crypto space is leading the forefront. Before we begin with some cool metaverse games, let’s understand what metaverse is, how it is different, and what to expect.

What Is Metaverse?

In the metaverse you can own lands, shop, play to earn, watch concerts, and even work. The possibilities seem to be endless with creators, dreamers, and corporate behemoths trying to build an entire world from scratch. And that’s the appeal. It unlocks, literally, an entire world full of potential with a focus on new ways to play, earn, work, and do so much more.

Let’s take a look at some examples of metaverse games that are changing the way we go about our daily lives.

1. Decentraland

It has an events page where you can find and participate in ongoing events that include art exhibitions, DJ parties, and so on. You can explore as a guest or use one of the crypto wallets like Meta Mask to sign in.

Fun fact: the world’s oldest auction house, Sotheby, has opened a digital version of its London gallery in Decentraland.

2. Axie Infinity

While Decentraland wants to create a virtual city that mimics aspects of the real world, Axie Infinity takes the play-to-earn approach. Inspired by Pokemon, players collect, raise, and breed creatures called Axies and take part in PvP (player vs. player) battles with them.

Like any game, there is a point system to level up. Run by its own governance token called Axie Infinity Shards or AXS, Axie Infinity is changing the way gamers interact with the game. Players own the creatures they collect and breed and can sell them for native tokens on the marketplace to make real profit.

3. The Sandbox

Another metaverse game with a play-to-earn format, Sandbox allows users to buy land, build on top of it, then sell it on NFT marketplaces like Open Sea. You can be a creator who is building the metaverse or a player who is participating in the games created by other players or builders.

As is the norm in the blockchain gaming world, creators own digital rights to their creations, which are tradable. Their native cryptocurrency is SAND, which powers the economy, facilitating transactions like buy/sell land parcels, characters, etc.

4. Yield Guild Games

Yield Guild Games or YGG makes it possible for a group of players to participate in blockchain games remotely. The benefit is not being required to be at the same place like in the old days. They can compete for prizes, cash/tokens, and in-game assets.

You can think of YGG as the Steam (from Valve) of blockchain gaming where you can play different games like The Sandbox, Axie Infinity, and more.

YGG’s objective is to bring players together from different parts of the world so that they can win together. Because YGG is a DAO, players get to vote on important decisions, like where money is invested, which NFTs to purchase, and which games they want to play to earn rewards.

5. Mines of Dalarnia

While the graphics are nothing to write home about, and the game is in 2D, it does look promising. Maybe adding a couple of new maps and 3D worlds would spice things up.

6. Chromia

Chromia is not a game but an entire gaming studio that has created several games, including Mines of Dalarnia discussed above. Other metaverse games include My Neighbor Alice, Krystopia, and Chain of Alliance. They are also involved in some other side projects and probably won’t stop there. Expect more game launches in the future as the tech improves.

7. Gala

Gala is a blockchain gaming studio just like Chromia. The dev team has already developed and released a bunch of games like Townstar, a simulation game, and SpiderTanks, a PvP game, with few others in development. There is a store where you can buy and sell in-games items with the native token, Gala.

Gala Games was co-founded by Eric Schiermeyer, who also founded Zynga. They are currently working on creating more games and launching a mainnet of their own blockchain, GalaChain. Currently, they are deployed on Ethereum.

Look for more from some of the big name gaming studios like Roblox, Epic Games, and Tencent.

Should You Submit Your Sitemap Every Month?

This week’s Ask An SEO question comes from Renee in Iowa, who writes:

“I read somewhere that you should submit your sitemap every month. When you provide an XML URL, isn’t it just that – a URL and therefore updates are always in place?

I’m using RankMath which generates my XML file. It didn’t seem like I was uploading a file to Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster tools (actually, I let Bing import form Google Console).

Maybe the confusion is that the HTML file needs to be updated monthly. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on that, thank you!”

There’s a lot to unpack in here, and Renee’s question strikes a few of my nerves that I’d like to dive into.

Before I do that though I’ll just say no, you don’t have to submit your sitemap every month.

Now, let’s address some common questions and misconceptions about sitemaps before we go into more detail on Renee’s question.

What’s The Value In XML Sitemaps?

XML sitemaps are a big pet peeve of mine.

It seems like 75% of the 3rd party SEO audits I see these days all start off with “you don’t have an XML sitemap, create one!”

XML sitemaps aren’t a ranking factor.

Leaving aside hreflang and other stuff, their main use is for discovering links.

That means if you have a really good site architecture and code your site using all the best practices, search engines most likely discover all your links without needing a sitemap.

For many sites with technical problems that affect crawling though, they can be a lifesaver.

That context is important, meaning an XML sitemap might be a really important SEO fix, or it might not be needed at all.

Ok, I Need An XML Sitemap, How Often Do I Submit It?

Ideally, you only need to submit your sitemap once (per search engine) in the search console.

After that, they will keep re-crawling it on a schedule that they think makes sense based on what they know about your site.

You should also reference your sitemap in your chúng tôi file.

There’s really no reason to keep submitting it after that.

If you’re doing a major redesign and update and want to re-submit it for peace of mind, go for it. There’s no harm.

… Like A Knife

While XML sitemaps can be a great way to get URLs indexed, they can also be dangerous if you don’t stay on top of them.

Most websites I look at have XML sitemaps that contain several errors.

Many of the URLs don’t get automatically updated or removed when the site is changed, so they end up submitting a sitemap full of 301 redirects or pages that don’t exist anymore (404).

Years ago at a conference, a Bing rep told me that if a couple of the URLs in your XML sitemap had a status other than 200, then Bing assumed your sitemap was out of date and ignored it.

I have no idea if that’s still the case or what that threshold is, but it makes sense.

I’ve seen too many SEO experts make a change to their URLs, then cause themselves all kinds of issues by leaving the old URL in the XML sitemap.

What About HTML Sitemaps?

For starters, you shouldn’t have to worry about submitting an HTML sitemap.

I don’t hate HTML sitemaps, but the same caveat about making sure you update it whenever you do other changes still applies here.

You don’t want to send conflicting messages to search engines by including your non-canonical versions in some old sitemap you forgot about.

Remember, HTML sitemaps are essentially just another crawl band-aid though.

If your site architecture is perfect and your code is all clean and crawlable, you won’t need one.

Most clients I work with use the HTML sitemap as a quick fix because of some weird UX issues preventing search engines from cleanly getting to pages.

It works, but it’s not the best way.

I hope this clears up a lot of questions about XML sitemaps.

In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need them.

In the real world though, XML sitemaps can be a powerful tool or a great way to cause a bunch of issues with your website.
