Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

Zen Ultrafone 701 FHD from the looks like the previous 701 HD but in terms of built quality, Zen has this time user nice material which includes the combination of Magnesium metal frame with good quality of the plastic, it feels rock solid in hands and can easily survive couple of drops without any issue with the phone functionality. The design is seems to be on the same lines of Zen Ultraphone 701 HD but this time it has got some nice rounded edges which does make it easy to hold in hand and give you a nice grip as well. The form factor can be compared with any other 5 Inch display phone, it does not feel heavy and bulky. Its has thickness of around 9 mm which does not make it thin but its fairly portable to carry around and can be easily fit in jeans or trouser pocket without any issues.

Camera Performance

The rear camera on this device is 13 MP with auto focus supported and it can record 1080p video at 30 fps and the photo quality of the rear camera is quite decent in low light and in daylight it is good in terms of the colors reproduction and details. The front camera is a fixed focus but 8 MP and it can take nice quality self portrait and can be use to do a HD video chat.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI is almost stock android in terms of the overall looks and there is little amount of customization in the form of some apps like Zen Ultra Zone which seems to be a third party app store for installing apps from Zen Servers. The UI is responsive but not as snappy as we have seen on Ultrafone 701 HD and mainly this is because of the Full HD resolution, but it terms of the performance on the application usage there is no issue, however the gaming performance gets affected a little specially on some graphic intensive games but not on all of them. We played Dead Trigger 2, Front line commando D day and Temple Run OZ on the device and there was no lag in these games, but we could notice some frame drops and the touch screen was responsive enough.

Benchmark Scores

Quadrant Standard Edition:  5497 (Good)

Antutu Benchmark: 14921 (Good)

Nenamark2:  26.6 (Low)

Multi Touch: 5 point

Sound, Video and Navigation

The sound which comes out from the loud speaker is good but not too loud and it might get blocked as well at time as the placement of the loudspeaker is at the back side. The sound from the ear piece is clear during calls but at low signals you might notice some disturbance in reception. It can also be used for GPS navigation with the help of assisted GPS and it does have magnetic sensor for precise navigation, the GPS locking took around 5 minutes for the us when we tried outdoors and in indoors we could not get GPS getting locked.

Things We Like The Most

One thing we really like the most is the smart flip cover which comes with the device for free, it turns off the display when you close the flip part, it has a magnet inside the flip part of the flip cover and a sensor on the phone which helps in this functionality and secondly it looks exactly like S4 smart view cover and it does provide some what same functions as well to an extent. Another thing we like was the 3 extra screen protection films which comes with the device for free. One thing to note here is that you get a glossy back cover with some texture design

Conclusion and Price

Zen Ultrafone 701 FHD is a nice upgrade for the previous version, its available for a price of around Rs. 17,999 INR and it is pretty decent value for money device at this price point comparing it with other devices with similar hardware configuration, it does come with decent fixed 8 MP camera which we have seen for the first time in any budget android phone, it has pretty good built quality as well, feels solid and can be used for several years without any major wear and tear. But the gaming performance is not too good and the software UI is again not too fast in transitions but we assume that this can be fixed with future updates as Zen team plans to bring android 4.4 to this device as we have got to know, rest all we will see what happens.

Panasonic T11 Quick Specs

Box Contents

Handset, Battery, User Guide, Warranty Statement, Quick Start Guide, Standard Headphones, Universal USB Charger, MicroUSB to USB 2.0 cable.

Build Quality, Design and Form Factor

The device has glossy plastic back cover, however quality of the plastic is better than we have seen in samsung budget phones and device is quite sturdy and it can easily resist drops from waist height as the device feels solid in hands. Edges are curved and round to some extent which gives a great grip of the device and its size is also quite suitable for hand grip, even when the device has glossy finish back its easy to hold and carry because of the light weight of around 120 grams. There is nice shiny chrome bezel frame which holds the device and also give it a premium look. The form factor great due to handy size and light weight, it fairly portable to carry and can be easily fitted in any pocket of jeans or trousers.  The buttons on the device are nice does not feel cheap and also give nice feedback, although these buttons are plastic but feels nice and sturdy.

Camera Performance

The rear camera is a 5 MP shooter its pretty average in performance the day light photos are good but not so good in details however colors looks good, but low light photo show some high noise levels, you can also shoot 720p HD video from the back camera. The front camera is fixed focus and VGA quality and don’t expect much but you can do video chat from the from camera. Check out some camera samples taken in indoors and outdoors from rear camera.

Camera Samples

Display, Memory and Battery Backup

You have 4 Inch WVGA display with resolution of 480 x 800 gives you fairly good pixel density, you might feel the display is little smaller specially while watching videos but the viewing angles are good if not the best when you see the screen from extreme viewing angles, however the sunlight visibility is just ok if not too good. The in built memory is 4 Gb out of which you get around 1.41 Gb available to the user for storing pictures, video and other data. The battery backup is not so good but it will last for you for around one day with moderate usage which means minimal use of the device for entertainment like watching videos, playing games etc.

Software, Benchmarks and Gaming

The software UI is stock android and its snappy and as fast as you might expect on a decent budget smartphone, there is no lag in the UI unless you are running very resource hungry app or graphic task on the phone. Its decent on the gaming front as it can play casual games like Temple Run oz and subway surfer without any issues on graphics and touch screen quality. The benchmarks scores are given below.

Conclusion and Price

Panasonic T11 is great choice for a price of around Rs. 9000 or even less, its one the most stable android phone with decent build quality but don’t except much from camera although it will be good for day light photos. You might feel the display is smaller once you use it for some days but the viewing angles are pretty good. In terms of performance it will better then most of the other budget android phones priced below Rs 10,000

Asus Zenfone Zoom Unboxing, Quick Review, Gaming And Benchmarks

Asus Zenfone Zoom Specifications

[table id=297 /]

Asus Zenfone Zoom Unboxing

Asus has chosen a totally different box this time to pack its camera-focused smartphone. Usually we saw a rectangular shaped box which was very identical to almost all the phones from Asus but the Asus Zenfone Zoom comes inside a bigger black coloured box with almost no text or picture around it. Only Zenfone Zoom branding can be seen on the top and the product details on the back.

Inside the box, the first thing that comes in vision is the handset with the camera facing upwards and a lanyard loop that obviously adds up to the camera like flavor to the phone. There are two compartments; the larger compartment has the handset, and the documentations like user guide under it. The other compartment has the lanyard loop on the top and other accessories under it.

Asus Zenfone Zoom Box Contents

Asus ZenFone Zoom comes with a USB 2.0, Charger, In-ear headphone, a lanyard loop, documentation and the handset.

Asus Zenfone Zoom Unboxing, Quick Review, First Impressions [Video]

Physical Overview

The Asus Zenfone Zoom looks pretty much like the usual Asus phones from the front. It comes with a camera bulge on the back which looks beautiful but makes the body look a bit thicker. It has curved back which is made of soft quality leather and the edges are round. Sides are made of good quality alloy, which are finished in metal. The phone feels a little bulky but rests pretty nicely in the palm.

The front is protected using a Gorilla Glass 4 panel and has broad bezels around the display. You will find the speaker on the top with the front camera and proximity and light sensors. On the bottom, you will find the silver coloured touch navigation keys.

The volume rocker and lock/power keys are on the top of the right side. Moving downwards, you will notice a dedicated camera shutter and instant video shoot button.

3.5 m audio jack is located on the top with a dedicated microphone.

This phone has got a beautiful back, which has the big circular ring with shiny chrome finish. The camera is the main highlight of this device and the dual-tone LED is located just below the lens with laser autofocus on its right.

Moving downwards, you’ll find the Asus branding and the loudspeaker grille on the left.

Asus Zenfone Zoom Photo Gallery User Interface

It comes with Android 5.1 skinned with company’s very own ZenUI on top. ZenUI looks completely different from the stock Android experience and offers a lot of extra apps and features other than the one we find on stock Android. The notification panel is totally skinned and the app launcher has its own style. You have theme options to choose from and also a few hand gestures for smarter functioning.

The UI is fully loaded with features and customizations but it feels good to use and does not lag at any point of time. Switching between apps and navigation was also a buttery experience.

Gaming Performance

The device works quite well while doing random tasks on it but as far as the gaming is concerned, we expected a much better experience with that 4 GB RAM and PowerVR G6430 GPU. We do  not complain about the games with above average graphics but when it comes to hardcore gaming, ZenFone Zoom loses some points. We played Asphalt 8 first, the game was running smoothly with no lags or glitches but after a point of time we started noticing few frame drops when there was too much happening on the screen. Other than this we played Modern Combat 5 and the gam-play was smooth but some parts of the game took too long to load.

Note:- The gaming tests were done under an atmospheric temperature of 12 degree Celsius.

As far as the heating is concerned, we are happy to say that the heating was well under control and we did not experience abnormal heating while using it for any of the purposes. May be we need to test the device once again in summers when its very oftenly more than 35 degrees here.

ZenFone Zoom Performance and Benchmark Scores

The device performs really snappy in day to day usage, and does not show any sign of glitches while gaming, browsing and off course while using the camera. It could have offered a little more power if we consider the price, we must not forget that it is a smartphone with a special camera features and not a camera with smartphone features. Asus has implemented Intel CPU Z3590 with 4 GB of RAM to offer breakthrough performance in almost every condition. Our initial thoughts about the performance are positive and we have not faced any issues until now.

The benchmark scores of the Asus Zenfone Zoom are:

Xolo Era 4K Unboxing, Quick Review, Gaming And Benchmarks

XOLO Era 4K Full Specifications

XOLO Era 4K Unboxing

The XOLO Era 4K comes packed in a plain and simple white Box with XOLO branding on the top, along with the Era 4K Branding. Other than this branding, the top of the box is empty.

Upon opening the box, you find the phone sitting on the top in all its glory, and after removing the phone from the box, you get access to the accessories compartment. So, let’s get into the accessories and the items that come in the box.

XOLO Era 4K Box Contents

In the box for the XOLO Era 4K, you find a quick start guide, a warranty information booklet, a wall charger, a microUSB cable for charging and data sync, a pair of headphones, and a screen protector to put on the display of your device. It is good of XOLO to include the headphones and the screen protector inside the box itself because at times people have to hunt shops to find a screen protector for their smartphone.

Physical Overview

The device sports a plastic build overall, featuring a metallic rim on the edges. On the front of the device, you’ll find the 5-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Above the display, you’ll find the 5-megapixel front facing camera and the earpiece.

On the top edge of the phone, you’ll find the 3.5mm headphone jack and the secondary microphone for noise cancellation.

On the right edge of the phone, you’ll find the volume rocker at the top and just below that you’ll find the power button to power on and off the device.

XOLO Era 4K Photo Gallery

Gaming Performance

For gaming, I installed Dead Trigger 2 and Modern Combat 5 on the smartphone and played both of them. The phone did not lag when playing Dead Trigger 2 as such, gameplay was smooth but I noticed that the touch response was struggling a bit in the middle. I switched to Modern Combat 5 and played it for almost half an hour, surprisingly there was no lag but the game felt very slow from the very beginning and I was not able to point the aim with ease. Gaming on this device is good for mediocre level games.

[table id=401 /]

XOLO Era 4K Performance and Benchmark Scores

The XOLO Era 4K is powered by MediaTek MT6735P, a 1GHz quad-core CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM. While testing out the benchmark scores, I did not expect much from the device, but still the device manages to score some decent specs for the priceat which the phone is offered.

Verdict

The XOLO Era 4K is definitely a decent phone for the price at which it is offered, but there are powerful phones in the market that are priced similar to this phone. Overall, by the first impressions, the phone looks decent and the performance is also good for the price. I’ll try and use the device for a longer period of time and then decide how the phone is. Stay tuned to the blog to know more about the XOLO Era 4K and the other devices that will launch in the future.

Samsung Galaxy J Max

Physical Overview

The Samsung Galaxy J Max comes with a 7-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It’s a very compact and sleek tablet with a thickness of just 8.7mm and it also feels quite light with thin bezels. It’s built out of plastic but feels good to hold and there is faux metal design running all over side of the device. Back is textured, which gives a good feel and grip while holding it.

On the top part, it has got the earpiece, 2MP front cam and the Samsung branding.

On the bottom front, it has got the two touch capacitive buttons and one physical home button. The touch capacitive buttons doesn’t light up.

On the back, it has got a 8MP camera, a flash, a speaker and a Samsung branding.

On the top, there is a 3.5mm jack and a micro-USB port for charging and Data syncing.

On the left side there is SIM card slot and a micro-SD card slot

On the right side, there’s a Volume up and down button and a Power button.

Display

It has got a 7-inch HD resolution LCD IPS display with a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch. The display is good, bright and vibrant. The display on this device is good in terms of color reproduction but lacks in terms of sharpness. It has got a 69.9% screen-to-body ratio. For a tablet, it has got a decent display and you won’t see major pixelation while using it.

Camera Overview

It sports a 8MP camera on the rear and a 2MP camera on the front and both cameras can shoot videos at 720p with 30 FPS. This is just a below average camera setup but performs decent considering it’s a tablet camera. Both cameras are good for natural lighting conditions and you cannot expect much if you have need a good camera.

Gaming Performance

Well this device performs average when it comes to gaming. The basic and the mid-level games ran just fine without any issue. But when we tested it with some heavy games, it struggled at high graphic setting, it skipped lot of frames and lagged a lot. Though they were playable with low or medium setting. GTA San Andreas was playable at medium setting but controls lagged a bit.

Heating was normal for a specific time but it got increased after few minutes but nothing major.

Benchmark Scores

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy J Max is a good value for money device at INR 13,400. It doesn’t have anything that makes it stand out of the crowd other than its size. The display, the build, the overall specification is good enough considering its a tablet. The one downside of this device is that it still runs on Lollipop knowing that Marshmallow has already been out. Overall it’s a decent tablet and people who are looking for a dependable tablet with decent specification, will find this tablet quite suitable for them.

In the box you get the printer with some assembly parts supposed to be mounted on the unit, some free papers A4 size for initial testing of the printers, you also get our pigment inks: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black and some others accessories, power cable and additional tray which can be mounted in the middle position to hold the printed paper.

Build Quality, Design and Weight

In terms of build quality its really nice quality of the plastic with matte finish which will not look dirty or get scratch easily. The design is a done nicely, it may look like a laser but its not although it works like a laser in terms of paper feeding and printing. That makes it laser-class, much like Xerox’s solid ink printers, which are also inkjets and also head-to-head laser competition. As a laser-class printer, the X576dw is a strong contender for light to moderate-duty use in a small to medium-size office or workgroup. The size is big but it wont take more than 2 foot of space on your office table and again its quite heavy so once to locate it in the office moving it will be a task.

Paper Handling, Print Quality and Speed

It terms paper handling, you have a choice of three locations where you can place the paper. There’s the main input tray on the bottom that can hold 500 sheets of paper, a 50-sheet auto-document feeder on top for scanning and copying a stack of documents, and an additional 50-sheet multipurpose feed tray that folds down from a door on the left side of the printer. For scanning, the X576dw offers both a legal-size flatbed and a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF). Even better, the ADF can copy, scan, or fax two-sided pages by turning the page over to scan the second side. In combination with the print duplexer, it lets you copy both single-and double-sided originals to your choice of single-or double-sided copies.

The print quality is great and is much better than a laser it is almost life like although the black sometimes may appear little grey. We noticed some banding on a black and white photo, but color photos qualified as true photo quality, at the low end of what you might expect from drugstore prints. The printing speed is something which makes this printer a decent performer for a business. It comes powered by HP Page Wide Technology which will help this printers to deliver high-quality professional documents at up to 70 pages per minute in General Office mode. This is something really amazing and makes this printer the fastest desktop printer.

Cost of Running, Power Saving Conclusion and Price
